.. but defense wins championships, Chenjy9.
"Defense doesn't win championships. It'll give you a shot. But your offense still has to score points."

As far as the OP and pessimism, I guess it takes all kinds.
As a lifelong Houston pro football fan since Luv Ya Blue, I get the disappointment and bitterness. It is exhausting after so many decades of never seeing a Houston football team in the the Super Bowl. I used to let the emotional baggage accumulate, especially after 35-3. So I certainly get where the OP's perspective originates, even if I no longer dwell on that stuff.
We just have to remind ourselves that what happened with the Oilers has absolutely no bearing on what happens with the Texans. It's just not connected in any sort of tangible way. Fan memories have no impact on the field.
And while I'm not the most optimistic of guys, I tend to be a realist about things and try to think in pragmatic terms.
The 2015 Texans should have one of - if not the - best defenses in the league. That is a huge plus. Keeps games close and even has the potential to win games. As a fan of defense, this is something to be optimistic about. This is what I'm really looking forward to seeing this year. I want to read and hear about Texans opponents fearing our defense.
Obviously we have crap at QB. My gut feeling is that O'Brien does not want to commit to a long term relationship with a QB he does not trust. Kubiak was so sure that Schaub was his guy that he traded value to get him and signed him to a long term deal before he really proved anything. O'Brien is not that kind of HC, and I think we are going to see a stream of QBs before he finally finds his man. This is both frustrating as a fan, but also good to see because our HC is not going to settle for someone. We just need to be patient with the process.
My thoughts on this season is not to have expectations. Just have fun with it. Like said above, IT'S FOOTBALL SEASON!! Yay! Rejoice in it! I figure this team could land anywhere between 10-6 and 6-10. I don't think they will win the division, so wildcard is going to be the target to watch. Anything is possible, so just take it game by game and be entertained.
The reality is that the world has many serious issues to get worked up and emotional about. Why make your entertainment medium one of those issues? Take a step back, get some fresh air, and live your life without living vicariously through something that is simply out of your control.
