Who else thinks the Texans are going to crash and burn in 2015

Let me start by saying I was pulling for Mallet but after watching HK I'm not sure I should have been.
I trust in OB1 and I also believe Hoyer IS an above average qb and what's more.. he's pumped up to be here and have a run with a special team. If you don't think we have the propensity to be the best then gtfo. This coming from a 'noob' to the board, true, but I've been reading you kids for years, and I've been around awhile in general. Plus, I'm a fan, not a ***** and moan artist that some of you seem to get off on. That said.. yes, I am a homer but I'm also a realist. I joined this board, in part, because I dig this community for the most part and wanted to be a small part of it before we shocked the world and especially before people like the originator of this thread thought we had any chance of accomplishing said feat.

I truly believe we can shock the league this year. I actually put a hundy on winning the Bowl at 50-1 a few weeks ago. :bat:
Of course, a few days later we lost Foster and then Hoyer was named starter and the odds went to 60-1 but hey, I refuse to be dismayed. HEH
Maybe I should drop another hundo and snatch 11k.?! :diapher:

Side note: You people have a **** ton of emoticons.

:trophy: Only need one.

I'm new and hope to bring some input to this board. Here goes: I think we have seen this act before. A relatively new offensive oriented coach who is just arrogant enough to believe he can take an average at best QB, put in his system, limit mistakes, and run to set up the pass behind a great offensive line. Unfortunately we have a soft tissued running back and an offensive lines that is only average at best. This computes to a team that is 6-10 or 7-9 at best. For me, 8-8 would be the Mother Lode. Our defense could be great, but inability to control time of possession will make this defense wear down. I hope I am wrong on Hoyer and our offensive line, but I still feel that OB will be eating crow after his QB experiment fails!

Thanks, Playoffs.
Appreciate all of the contributions you make here.

Also a shout to CnnnD.. I always know I'm going to get educated when that man chimes in.

Looking forward to the banter, gentlemen.

Cheer up, DB.
As you know per your name sake.. if Mr. Cooper could get away with his caper.. you should have some faith in our ability to steal a Lombardi.

Did it hurt getting that tattoo?

I'm an optimist amigo!

We are 0-0 starting a new season and I'm excited just like every fall!

I'm savvy.
Like I said.. I've read y'all for quite awhile and while I know I'm going to be educated.. it's not always what I want to learn.
At least he's honest.

Yeah I think JJ watt can win us at least 5 games just by him self he's done it before

I hear banjo music....paddle faster!!! Welcome to the board!!

I WANT TO BELIEVE and be optimistic.

You suck at this man. No offense. Sure, 7 wins is possible but I don't think that's the ceiling. I think the ceiling for this team is 11 or 12 wins. Of course things can go badly and they could win 5 games but that is a "all hell breaks loose" kind of scenario. This team should win 9-10 games if people stay relatively healthy. It is going to be damn hard to score on this team. More important than the front seven is the fact that we can put 3-4 cbs on the field that aren't a complete joke. Haven't been able to say that in a long time (ever?)

I really hope someone walks up to the OP and whoever thinks like the OP and kicks them in the nuts... HARD. The new season is starting and us fans need to be behind them all the way. If some of you can't do that, well maybe you guys should throw yourselves off the wagon. Why even watch the Texans if you are going to be such a whinny little turd?

Our defense looks solid not to mention Clowney is back. Foster should be back sooner than we thought. It's looking like a 9-7 10-6 season.

Hard knocks sure did a hell of a job making people think Brown n James are back ups that can make or break a team, fkn sickening.

I think people have a tendency to root for the underdog and HK knows this, and exploits it. This is why people today still call Tebow's name because they want to believe in the underdog. I wanted to see CJ3 make it, but not at the expense of winning. I think it came down to keeping Martin, and no matter how much I hate that. He is more versatile than CJ3 and has better measurable's. Someone mentioned it earlier but his measurable's are his only problem. It's going to take a perfect storm for him to see the field on any team.

Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, Bucky Richardson...it doesn't matter who plays QB. The Texans will win 8 games minimum.

This is where I'm at unless Hoyer either lights it up, or gets the hook and Mallett lights it up. 8-8 with Hoyer, or 10-6 with Mallett with a possible 11 win season if Mallett gets in the action early enough to get some significant experience.

I think that the Texans will definitely take a step back this year. Our defense is solid, but our offense got worse and the schedule will be slightly tougher. I predict they'll only win 5 games but could win as much as 7. I seriously doubt they'll go .500 or above.

I want the Texans to be either really good or really bad. To me an 8-8 or 9-7 record is the worse thing since the Texans' front office will be satisfied with that and Bob McNair will still believe the team is on the right track. They'll still believe a game manager QB teamed with a good defense is a winning philosophy. They'll forget that they are in the same division as the Colts and Andrew Luck.

People flaunt that 9-7 record from last year as an accomplishment anytime you say something critical of the Texans. But if they had gotten a QB (e.g. Bridgewater, Carr) we would've made the playoffs and wouldn't be in the offensive mess we're in right now!

I'm sorry, I can't take the Texans seriously when they say a Fitzpatrick and now Hoyer led team can make it to the playoffs.

If you don't believe the Texans can make the playoffs, it is OK to be pessimistic. A poor record can force positive change and get the Texans front-office to realize the error in their ways.

Great post. I completely agree. It is good to have other realists like yourself on this board. I haven't seen Vinny post here in a long time, nor do I see steelbtexan or Texian post as much. It seems like the sunshine pumpers and Kool-Aid drinkers have run off the posters that I have respected the most.

Then f^cking BELIEVE and be optimistic.

Certain things need to happen before I can believe. First and foremost, our Uncle Tom of a GM, Rick Smith, needs to be fired and Bob McNair needs to have no say whatsoever in football operations. That is my prerequisite.

You do realize neither the Vikings (with Bridgewater) or the Raiders (with Derek Carr) did not make the playoffs in 2014 & most likely won't make it in 2015.

I wouldn't feel any better about his team had we drafted Bridgewater. Without Arian our chances of making the play offs wouldn't be any better.

Our chances of winning the division wouldn't be any better.

IMO, the only thing drafting Bridgewater would have done is guarantee we won't get a QB in the 2016 draft.

I think we're doing what John Harbaugh did in Baltimore, & what Pete Carroll did in Seattle.

Hopefully when we do find our QB we'll be instant contenders like Seattle & Baltimore were.

Lol

The pain no.

I was just hoping she was the one posting!

Just curious what kind of Rico Suave you were going to throw down if it was?

Wait, I guess I need a prediction. The Texans will be exceptionally mediocre this year - pulling out a few with an epic D performance, throwing a few away mediocre to bad O performance resulting in 7-9 wins of we're still in it football.followed by an o#season of who's our QB, McNair is a white suit wearing cheap snake oils salesma Clint Eastwood is about to spit on and Rick Smith is about to build a cabin for.,

But that's just a guess.

And I'll still be the worst moderator on the planet.

That's the second time that you've called Rick Smith an Uncle Tom. Care to elaborate, counselor?

PS - to all the "glory days MB" folks - BS.

This is exactly how it's always been. What seemed like new and shiny repertoire in 2004 is now old crap because you've heard it 13 times.

Yeah some of it is crap you've heard 13 times. Some of it is the same good analysis, news, medical advice, etc.

Don't pretend you can't get news or analysis in any less fractious fashion. I learned a ton from AJ and Vinny both who among unnamed stalwarts here were part of epic unmoderated meltdowns. Meltdowns that broke the Blue Crew among others.

Tired hearing the same whines from the same losers for 10 years. Vote with your clicks. Be constructive or beat your mouse...again.

Football season is here!!!!!!

Woooooohooooooooo!!!!!!

Nfl is setup for you to go 7-9,8-8,9-7. There will be about half the teams in that range. Until the Texans solve the qb issue, they will live in that range
This season will be no different.

My prediction... we're going to win. It won't be ugly, but it won't be remarkable either. Blue isn't going to rain for 6ypc, Hoyer isn't going to top 60% completion, or 90 passer rating. We'll probably kick three or four field goals, one TD. Our defense will keep it competitive..

The Ravens and Seahawks were non playoffs before they solved the qb situation. The Vikings went 7-9 without AP and with a rookie qb. Most on this board and most fans would prefer bridgewater over clowney, so fulu, nix, and whomever else the Texans drafted last year.

JJ is the best player in nfl and nobody would trade you a top 12 qb for him

The Vikings won't make the play offs.

A lot of fans would take Case Keenum as our starting QB.

If Rick Smith can get Jj, DBrown76, Kareem, & DeAndre... if he ever drafts a QB in the first round, watch the fuk out.

Trying to find a QB in the high first round will either set you up for 10 years or set you back 3 to four years

Just make sure he doesn't draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round if he does we are totally screwed.

This is my biggest gripe about the NFL... you can have the best player in the league, but your team still won't be a contender unless you have a top QB. A team can make 20 good picks in the draft, but all it really takes is taking one good QB, to be a successful team in the NFL.

You can thank the commissioner for that. DPI if you look at the receiver wrong. Hard hit = 15 yard penalty

I have had season tickets since Day 1 of this franchise. Mine are on the Texans sideline. I have seen Dick Smith's kiss-ass, "yes massa" shenanigans with both McNairs on the Texans sideline ever since he has been with the Texans. Rick is all about kissing ass and not doing his ******* job. A real GM would be focused on his ******* job, most likely from the coaches' booth up in the stands, and not whispering sweet nothings in the McNairs ears like he does all the time.

Watching Hard Knocks further confirmed for me how much of an Uncle Tom, "house slave"-acting fool of a GM that we have. Does that answer your question?

Wow....so much to reply to here, but probably best not to. I think you have done a good enough job describing yourself...

Wow, now that is odd since McNair and Smith come out and stand almost directly, just a little to the left, of my front row seats.

Don't know what your wife, girlfriend, etc. considers foreplay, but I've never seen any of it from Smith and McNair. They stand there almost at attention with little discussion for a brief time.

Not sure what you envision other GMs doing during the game.

Seriously people, enjoy TexansFight while you can. If this guy really has been sitting on the Texans sideline since 2002 then he's going to pop an O-ring eventually and keel over dead from an aneurism or heart attack one day watching Rick Smith laugh at one of Bob McNair's jokes while the Texans trail at halftime.

Enjoy this stuff while you can get it people.

I don't think any of them were make-or-break, but that doesn't mean that I think the Texans make all the right roster decisions.

LOL! Uncle Tom is a reference thrown out by blacks all the time for phonies like Rick Smith. Do some research about the phrase "Uncle Tom" and "house slave" before making another ignorant comment. I studied history in college. These references go over a lot of people's heads apparently.

Calling Rick Smith an Uncle Tom is going too far. Who doesn't network with their bosses? But I will say I think he is an ineffective GM. People have called him a "facilitator GM" and it is unclear how much power he really has since it has been said he co-signs on all roster moves with the coach. However, when Gary Kubiak was fired he took all the credit for having a "loaded roster." I assume that's how he kept his job after that 2-14 season. So, it is only right he takes accountability for the past few poor drafts we've had. Our once "loaded roster" now has many holes - especially on offense.

From watching Rick Smith on Hard Knocks he seems to just be an order taker. Whatever Bill O'Brien says goes and it is Rick's job to get him the players he wants. And Rick can't even do that come draft day. Also, it's concerning that Smith appears to be giving so much control to O'Brien when it comes to personnel decisions. I understand you don't want to get players that the coaches don't want, but Rick Smith has more seniority with the Texans than O'Brien. For example, he should have vetoed the decision last year to bring Fitzpatrick in as a starter and to wait until the 4th round to get a QB (Tom Savage).

Rick Smith is on his 3rd life since he should have been let go twice already by now: (1) In 2010 when the Texans went 6-10 and (2) in 2013 when they went 2-14.

If the Texans go below .500 this year which is likely to happen, Rick Smith is going to be the fall guy in that debacle and it will be well deserved.

I predict next year we will have a new general manager.

Your personal attacks are getting predictable and are pretty damn sad, I feel sorry for you. I'm sure your hero Ozzie Newsome has never laughed at one of the owners jokes. You can disagree with the GM's personnel decisions and your opinion can be that he is terrible at his job and you would love a new GM yada yada yada but Uncle Tom and house slave?

I'm sure everyday you set a fine example and tell your boss he is an idiot and things are going to be done your way from here on out.

What is your definition of success? If they are going to crash and burn then you must have some idea of what success would look like. If it is "only winning the super bowl" can be seen as success then anything less is crash and burn? Well all teams but one fall into that category every year. Is it a perennial playoff team? More wins than losses?

Again going back to Newsome he has been the GM since 2002 and has one SB victory in that time, what makes him a great GM? Do you have numbers that show how many 3rd round picks he has missed on?

I just can't understand the pure hatred you seem to have for Rick Smith.

I hope to God you are right and we get a new GM. It would be worth having a bad record this season if the payoff was Rick Smith's firing. Does Rick have any supporters on this board? If so, I would LOVE to hear their defense of him.

Ozzie Newsome has been responsible for the Browns/Ravens drafts since the mid-90s. Get your facts straight.
