I might be a nut, Mr. Marcus, but I am a realist. I have seen that you espouse the party line with no rational backing to your statements. Do you really think that Mallett does not want to heave the ball downfield to show his arm strength over his competition? Instead he would prefer to dink & dunk and he is calling an audible for these plays rather than the bomb sent in by the play caller. Thank you so much for your input and the personal attack. If you really believe that, no wonder you're a 'nut'.
the plays are just basic no point in launching it when it could get intercepted and lower mallets case for starting. for example what joe haden done at the browns game,I might be a nut, Mr. Marcus, but I am a realist. Me too. I agree.Call me crazy but I would throw Mallett or Hoyer out there with the 1st/2nd team mix to run this two minute drill. Very valuable time and situation
c'mon keymart
Too bad we wasted that final 37 seconds. Hindsight is 20-20 but should have hurried and spiked the ball. Saved that timeout in our pockets. Set up at least one pass into the end zone. We were within striking distance prior to the sack.oops, double posted
Agreed. Hate to see that regardless if it's our third-string offense. That clock management, play calling and execution at the end were terrible.
Not any better by the coaches.Agreed. Hate to see that regardless if it's our third-string offense.
You can watch better execution than that on the high school fields.

Thanks again for your input Mr. Marcus. I'm sure you were privy to when those bombs were being called.I don't 'espouse' ****. What I'm seeing, is the other QBs dinking and dunking it without even bothering to look downfield when the bomb is called. But you act like there's some sort of conspiracy going on.
Realist? LOL. Whatever.
It's frustrating as a fan because neither of the top two qb's are being given enough series for us to really get a feel for them. Unless savage really is in play for starter or backup then he's playing too much.
Agreed 100%. It baffles me. In an article I read yesterday, O'Brien was quoted as saying “I need to see a little bit more and I want to give Ryan a chance to start a game, and put some more thought into it. Then make a decision at some point whether it’s next week or the week after. At some point, we’ll make a decision.” If this is the case why the F has Savage gotten the most playing time this preseason so far?
I think that O'Brien is starting to realize that Savage has the best chance of actually being a difference maker in the league at some point in his career. Hoyer and Mallett may be able to be decent players for us for a year or so, but they aren't taking any team anywhere worth talking about. Any realist would see it this way IMO. Savage isn't ready but he needs to improve yearly. I don't give a **** how much Mallett and Hoyer improve, they aren't taking us anywhere anyway.
I wonder what the split is on who we think is the starting QB.
It feels like a lot of people think their guy is.
I'm not backing either but to me it feels like Mallett is the guy. I don't have a reason. Just going off the feel of these last two games.
If he's not, it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

I stated earlier in the thread I haven't been able to watch the first two games in their entirety, but from what I have seen I can't make a choice on who I would pick as our starting QB. Neither has "wowed" me from what I have seen.
How do you know Mallett isn't a game manager at heart too? All three QBs have had the same, relatively vanilla, set of plays to work with. If Mallett is a gunslinger, it looks, to me, that O'Brien is training him not to do it. Like you said, Savage appears to be the only one of the three willing to freelance. ...even if it's just a little bit.The problem is Bill has both of these guys too scared to cut it loose right now. Savage is the only one playing a little free. Mallett is a gun slinger. You don't want him to make mistakes but he is what he us. He's playing safe right now. Hoyer is just that. A safe, game manager type QB. OB has already made his mind up. He's making the wrong choice though.

Can we freakin' get a kicker that can force a touchback?
It became Pretty clear to me today that mallet isnt letting plays develop and he's not surveying the field at times when there are plays called and opportunities to throw it down the field. he's dumping the ball off too fast..he's not trying to get hit out there.
In 2 preseason games i think he's the only one who hasnt hit a pass over 20 yards in the air. in fact, i dont even think he's even attempted 1 deep pass all preseason...unless you count that pass he threw to blue today. Some of that actually is playcalling but some of that is him too. Contrast that with Hoyer who was throwing it downfield within 3-4 plays when he got in today. We've also already seen Savage go deep like 5 times. If you say its playcalling, it simply doesnt make sense that the coaches would call deep and intermediate shots down the field for the other 2 and not Mallet..especially when he's got the strongest arm of the 3.
Both teams looked like they were just evaluating players, and knocking off a little rust IMO.
