The NFL is set to hire it's first female official, Sarah Thomas

If she is the same as the rest of them then at least there will be equal criticism of her. Or at least there should be.

Of course it is. That's why he gets to be camp fodder. That is a reward. But it's not enough to waste a roster spot or draft pick. He just doesn't translate to NFL caliber.

I have agree with this. If Sam could help a team, he would be on a roster. He got a fair opportunity. Like a lot of college stars, his ability didn't translate to the NFL.

Kinda like Heisman trophy winners are all NFL studs? What you did in college means very little in the NFL.

Two women who have made sports history took a moment to congratulate each other on the field.

Jen Welter has become the first woman to coach an NFL preseason game when the Cardinals played the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday night.

And Sarah Thomas has shattered a glass ceiling by becoming the first woman to work an NFL preseason game as a full-time on-field official for the Cardinals.

When the two teams played a preseason game Saturday night on the field of the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, there was no way that the two trailblazers couldn't say hello.

Jen Welter made made footballing history during the NFL off-season by becoming team coach to the Arizona Cardinals.

She is believed to be the first woman to hold a coaching position of any kind in the NFL.

Welter, 37, has been making history throughout her career.

In February, she became the first female coach in a men's professional football league when she was hired by the Texas Revolution of the Indoor Football League to coach linebackers and special teams.

Welter also played professional football for more than 14 years as a linebacker, mostly with the Dallas Diamonds of the Women's Football Alliance. She helped lead them to four championships.

How often do teams bring in intern coaches for training camp and preseason?
