Top 3 prospects you wouldn't mind seeing us take @ 16

Mr teX

Hall of Fame
Based on your preference, evals and most importantly their realistic availability to us at 16, What are the top 3 best prospects you guys would like to see us take at 16? No trades up or down, no pipe dreams i.e. Mariota at 16

For me its Kendricks, Waynes and Parker. Waynes is the only guy that i can't pin down..I've seen him in all kinds of mocks going top 10 to going in the top 16.

C Cam Erving
DL Malcom Brown
ILB Eric Kendricks

All of them are team captains who have a reputation for being hard working and dedicated to their craft. On top of that work ethic, they have first round talent to back it up. You know exactly what you're getting. Virtually zero bust potential, no character concerns, no bad injuries, and the mental makeup to get the most out of their talent.

Before today I would have said Ray as one of them...

DeVante Parker
Arik Armstead
Cameron Erving

All 3 are right in line with value and at positions of need.

Yeah listening to Greg and ND a few weeks back, they had a segment on their show where they asked each other to come up with 3 prospects they thought were virtual locks to be solid to very good players throughout their careers. Both mentioned Malcolm Brown as 1 of their guys...For the record they both also mentioned 1 of those o-lineman as well ..Sherf or Peat..can't remember which 1.

You're the 1st guy that I've seen who's brought up this Cam Erving guy as I've seen him on no one's mocks in the top 20 that I've seen....Or maybe I just wasn't paying attention....admittedly I'm not a draftnik though...I'll have to check him out.

C Cam Erving
DE Arik Armstead
RB Melvin Gordon

Landon Collins is probably a guy to watch, now.

EDIT: Shaq Thompson in the 2nd sounds mighty appetizing, too.

Cam Erving has been mocked between 23 and 45. He began hot, fell a little too far and is back on the rise as the draft approaches. Malcolm Brown is definitely on my list at 16 along with Parker and La'el Collins if he falls a little further than expected. There will very likely be someone there who is not projected to be and we have to know why and if it concerns us enough to drop him as well.

But many recently breaking stories are suspect at best or outright lies at worst. We don't want to fall for a fake story and miss innocent talent.

Don't sweat the defense for now. It's the offense that needs fixing the most.
1. QB Bryce Petty
2. Center Cam Erving
3. TE Maxx Williams

But CB Trae Waynes wouldn't be a bad choice

Everything I have read about Petty indicates he is at least two seasons away from being a starter. I like your other two. While Waynes is the safest CB, I am going Rowe on recent posted mock in second round.

Wouldn't mind if we took a gamble on Petty in the 3rd or lower, but i think it'd be a big reach to take him as high as 16..Plus i think they'll be other, better prospects for us there as well.

1. Cam Erving-C/OT
2. Danny Shelton-DT he's borderline realistic at 16.
3. Malcolm Brown-DT

It's hard limiting this to just 3 as I wouldn't mind seeing us take Trae Waynes or DeVante Parker either, and both are semi realistic at 16.

Name 1 Art Briles qb that has had relative success in the NFL...

Realistic:
1) Landon Collins, SS, Alabama
2) Danny Shelton, DT, Washington, Probably a bit of a reach but it could happen.
3) Malcolm Brown, DT, Texas

What I hope happens is that 1 of the big 3 WR's falls to us (probably would be Parker) but I don't realistically see it happening. I guess stranger things have happened in the Draft! All it takes is for 1 team ahead of us to pick someone nobody was expecting, like when the Jags picked Alualu several drafts ago, and most had him rated in the 2nd or 3rd round. That could set off a chain reaction and cause a player, like Parker, to drop a little more than expected and land at #16.

RG3 had one of the greatest rookie seasons in pro football. Did Art Briles force Mike Shanahan to play Griffin in the playoffs with a torn ACL?

Your definition of success, not mine. I woulnd't classify his rookie season in that light, but it was definitely good. Hasn't done squat since...

Marcus Peters, Washington

Safety
Damarious Randall, Arizona State
Landon Collins, Alabama

Any one of these guys will do for me. :barman:

The bolded are my absolute favorites.

Todd Gurley RB - I have injury/durability concerns but he's the consensus best prospect since AP. Hard to overlook his talent.

Phillip Dorsett - Fastest player at the position in a while. Could be the fastest WR in the NFL. Ability to go the distance on each catch. Did I mention he's fast? Concerns are size/durability.

This 3rd one I could go a dozen ways on. There are a vast number of possibility's. There's a good dozen guys who wouldn't disappoint me there.

But I'll say Cam Erving - Just seems like a natural fit and a new leader for that line. Can play C or G - or even T in a pinch. Versatile, smart, durable, tough, leader. What more could you want? Not a sexy pick, but a good, safe, intelligent selection.

Very close runner up - Kendricks.

Great Pick! He should help us get deep into the playoffs!

Just throwing this out there early because it's what I'll say no matter who we pick. So I'm a fan, sue me.

Oops! I forgot we had lawyers (professional liars) on the board.

What's the point of taking a cheap shot like this here?

Lots of tension in the draft forum today, I guess. I think everyone should remind themselves that they will:

1) Hate the pick
2) Thought they should have traded up/down/sideways
3) Know they passed on the best player in the draft

Once you do that, you can relax and enjoy Mel Kiper's hair.

That's what the draft is all about.

I haven't decided which is worse... listening to Kiper/McShay all night or listening to Mayock/Baldinger

I think espn's addition of Berman decides it tho

What's the point of taking a cheap shot like this here?

I've dealt with lawyers too much and only 10% or so have been honorable men. But instead of arguing about it being a cheap shot, I will simply admit it is the wrong time and place and desist.

Gurley
Trae Waynes
Vic Beasley

If any one of these guys are still on the board they're likely the BPA. If Gurley was still there i'd prefer it as trade bait rather than actually selecting him.

Cameron Erving - 2x ACC offensive lineman of the year at two different positions. Would solidify the oline for a long time and give the less than mobile Mallet the pocket he needs to succeed.

Todd Gurley - Don't quite have that franchise QB yet? Run the ball down the opponent's throat. Plus a Foster/Gurley combo for at least 1 season would be fun to watch.

Breshad Perriman - If the top receivers are gone I would be ok with Perriman. Needs to fix the drop issue but he gives the offense the speed it's lacking. Sub 4.3 40 just blazing speed along with the height/weight. Prototype measureables.

Not always. I remember I was very happy the year we picked Amobi Okoye. Very happy. So happy that they picked the obvious best choice at the time. Glad that the front office had come to its senses for once. Yeah....

Given that, I think we'll be better off if I am thinking 1-3.

As long as people realize that we won't know how this draft turns out until 2 or 3 years from now, that's all that matters.

Every year with the draft fetish. Sports fans are the definition of Pavlov's Dog.

I absolutely hated the Okoye pick...I didn't really look at too many other prospects that year, but i did take a look at him...& I think he was the 1 guy that i knew for sure i didn't want us to draft of those that i looked at.

I was less than enthused with the Mario pick (I thought we should've selected Bush)
Less than enthused with the D. Brown pick, just not sexy enough of a pick to me.

Less than enthused with the Watt pick (cameron jordan was my guy in that draft).

Was ok with the Cushing pick......................but i wanted CMIII or even Mauluga...

For it not for the revelation of JJ watt, I think i would've fared ok with the others that i did want them to draft.

Really?

Okoye you didn't give an alternative but say Willis and call that 1 correct.

Mario is a better player than Bush.

You didn't give an alternative to Brown.

Cameron Jordan v. JJ - enough said.

Cushing but for injury is every bit as good as CMIII and puhleeze to Maualuga.

Jaelen Strong
Devante Parker
Trae Waynes (gotta get that JJO replacement soon)

If we were just a little lower I'd be okay with rolling the dice on Gurley. Not at 1-16 though.

Cushing was on his way to being a borderline HOF player before his injuries. Plus he's just plain bad ass and made the team fun to watch.

Not disputing Mario being better than Bush overall....At the time though, i wanted Bush..I thought he could be that dynamic, speedy skill guy we all craved at the time..especially coming off years of watching ploding RB's like Ron Dayne, Chris Wells and Dominick Davis. Bush hasn't been what i thought he'd be but he's been a productive pro...could've been a nice piece to a championship team.

I didn't really have a player in mind that i thought stood out enough the year we picked Brown..I just think i felt a little deflated with the pick after we moved back &......then him being an o-lineman and all....

"attendance is part of the grade" as C. Pallilo would say. Cushing pre-injury was making in-roads as 1 of the best young LBs. He wasn't there yet though. But even then imo, CMIII was still better & he proved it..DPOY inside of 3 years i believe. & at the time, I liked Mauluga's physicality and thought he was very instinctive and athletic enough to cover TE's in a limited area. He would've been a nice fit next to Demeco....CMIII was my guy though.

Close to my picks only Difference is i would put Kendricks above Erving.

any of the above 4 i would be over the Warren with :)

:mariopalm: I guess VY was on his way to a borderline HOF career after he won OROY? stop it dude.

Cush has had 1 amazing year...his rookie year...& that's up for discussion whether or not he had help in the form of PEDS b/c if you remember then he got popped for PED's and sat out the 1st 4 of his 2nd year. He came back that year and really didn't look like the same guy..Since then, injuries have limited him.

Clay Matthews III was never DPOY as recognized by the NFL

I stand corrected and thank you sir..before I researched it online, I would've sworn on my children's lives he won it the year GB won the SB..he lost it by 2 votes...to a player on that team they beat in SB....

yeah it was very very close. Was that his rookie year?
