Stevie Brown S visited - signed/released

Free agent safety and former New York Giants' Stevie Brown visited the Houston Texans on Tuesday.

According to sources, free agent safety Stevie Brown has visited with the Houston Texans. It shows that the Texans are still actively looking for a third safety prior to the season who they can team with Rahim Moore and D.J. Swearinger.

Brown was a 7th round pick out of Michigan by the Oakland Raiders. He haas spent time with the Raiders, Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants.

The Dallas native had his best seasons with the New York Giants, and in two seasons appeared in 32 games, starting 19 of them. In 2012, Brown had 8 interceptions with a Giants franchise record 307 return yards. In 2013, Brown missed the entire season after tearing his ACL only to come back on a one-year deal in 2014 to record 30 total tackles and one pass deflection.

At 5'11" and 215 lbs., Brown could be another veteran presence in the secondary to potentially remove another draft need off the board.

IIRC he is closer to 225 pounds; August will be two years past ACL. Right price & I will be ok with him pushing DJ.

I think all spots should be up for grabs. It's a great philosophy Pete Carrol has. Guys can get content without competition

NFLdraftscout had JJ at 290 coming out of college

NFLdraftscout guesstimates 40 times, etc. 2 years before people come out of college and then never bothers to update.

Again, so what if he is 290 instead of 285? It ain't 300+.

Find something saying Brown is 225 lbs and we can talk.

They don't update that info. And like I said, Nix is listed as being bigger than Wilfork.

I'm just saying they never update that info. It stays the same after a player is drafted

Depends what team and source you are talking about. When a new player gets to a team they typically list whatever NFL.com has which is often but not always their combine weight and is sometimes a weigh in with their team. Team sites vary. AJ's weight has gone up and down over the years on HT.com. Seen the same thing with other players.

None of which has anything to do with Brown being 225 lbs unless you can show anyone anywhere ever showing him that high. The comment was iiR(emember)c not iiG(uess)c.

And no I don't find it hard at all to believe JJ hasn't gained significant weight since getting here. I think he's converted fat into muscle and stayed roughly the same, maybe a few pounds but I doubt very seriously he tips a scale at 300 lbs.

AJ has lost weight - was 230 lbs at the combine, last listed at 220 lbs at HT.com, PFT.com has him at 219 lbs. There were reports to that effect after his rookie season.

So you believe he's gained significant weight, but not 10 pounds? I'm done and off this topic

Getting back to Stevie Brown, in the last game of last season, he suffered what was initially believed to be a re-injury to his left ACL. In fact, he suffered a severe injury to his left foot/ankle in the first quarter of the game, bringing his season to an end. Capping his bad luck last season was the fact that the injury was sustained while making an interception which was overturned due to a penalty. What is not widely publicized is that the foot/ankle injury required offseason surgery. Starter or reserve, not really great that in the past 2 years, 2 lower limb joints on the same side have required surgery. It's of further interest that Brown also broke his left ankle his senior year in high school.

If you say so. If he's 290 lbs does it prove your point? No.

When you're close to 300. You're weight can easily vary by 10 pounds during the course of a day. Particularly when working out with water loss and gain (Hydration). The question really isn't the number, but whether you can move and play strong as you are. The obsession with a number gets out of hand real quick in this narcissistic society.

Brown is very talented. The problem is he cannot stay healthy. A healthy Brown is an upgrade on Swearinger, IMO. But you can't rely on a guy who is always injured.

Hearing that Brown wants a multi-year deal, Texans only willing to do a 1 year deal. Texans was the fifth team he's visited lately. No team willing to give him the deal he wants.

Note to self: Don't sign injury prone players to multi-year deals.

Manning is a liability. Every time he was out there we gave up a big play. IMO Manning should retire. It was sad watching him out there last year.
this is my position; got hoarse too often screaming at him when he brought ball out of end zone rather than downing it.

Sounds like he is made of glass, and not someone we should be considering IMHO.

—> RT @KimJonesSports: Stevie Brown tells me he's agreed to terms with the Houston Texans. Former Giants safety officially moves on.

Given the choice, players are choosing Texans. Hope he can stay on the field.

That's what I'm noticing. This has been a good offseason insomuch that players have had options & chose to sign with us, even so much as to give up more money.

Brown's deal with Houston is a 1 year deal. No word on numbers, but guessing no more than a MSB deal.
