Adrian Peterson has been indicted

Father Time is going to catch up to Peterson at some point. He's an NFL running back, after all, and he's really not Superman, in spite of his publicist's rhetoric.

I would not want to be the team paying the bill for that particular season.

That said, I can see him having a solid year this year, but dude is 30 yo this year, and that is the age when backs typically start to fall apart.

More so when you consider his style of running. He's actively looking to punish guys and takes his fair share of hits. All a matter of time.

Obviously, much depends on where Peterson eventually lands, what kind of o-line they bring, and what role he'll play in the offense.

Peterson could be the exception to the rule. That said, running backs are running backs and they take a lot of punishment to play the position. That kind of physicality, combined with his age when athletes typically start to take longer to heal, could play a much bigger part in his career at this point.

The issue for Adrian Peterson is Kevin Warren. That the Vikings promoted him to COO was and is a problem. And so Peterson still wants out.

The NFL's premier running back is officially back.

The league announced Thursday that Adrian Peterson will be reinstated Friday as an active NFL player and may participate in all scheduled activities with the Minnesota Vikings.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports, via a source involved, that Peterson will face no further suspension upon reinstatement. U.S. District Judge David S. Doty will decide in October how many game checks the Vikings star will lose, per Rapoport. It could be as many as three or as few as zero...

I hope so! However, I say that with a grain of skepticism that our team will automatically repeat the outstanding performance from last year. I also believe in team chemistry and sometimes no matter how good the talent that joins the team, it isn't automatic that it will be a decisive advantage. Sometimes that unknown who is hungry will demonstrate an unbelievable performance to help the team go to the next level. Do I want him, absolutely, but is it an automatic game changer, it is yet to be seen.

Depends on the team. If you're drafting late (like Dallas) And you feel one superstar could put you over the top (like Dallas), maybe selling out for a year or 2 would be worth it. This is a shot I would take if I were Jerry.

This is true. It'd make a lot of sense for Dallas, but not any team in the top 20 I think

And then you have the ticket selling angle of bringing a Texas boy back to his home state. This would be an all around good grab for Jerrah.

What would be interesting is seeing how many were given the chance but couldn't do it for whatever reason. I'd venture to say most rb's that enter as starter at age 30 are pretty good players compared to the field.

I don't know how long they have to file an appeal, but that is the only reason to delay taking the action ordered by the court. This could only have been in court under a breech of contract suit for them to have jurisdiction as far as I know. I'm sure we have real lawyers who would gladly correct me if I'm wrong.

Zimmer sums it up on Peterson: "He's really got two choices: He can play for us. Or he can not play."

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer on Peterson: "I'm not concerned." ...Also notes it isn't true that Peterson told him he wouldn't attend OTAs.

There is much buyers remorse after signing a bilateral contract at times. But the terms are known and accepted at the time.

But it would be interesting if players simply refused to sign a contract that is not guaranteed in full. Why give a team a free option?

Or in an alternative, make the guarantees apply from the end of the contract and work back to the beginning so that the last years are guaranteed and the initial years are not used to offset the guarantee.

There are lot's of things that can be done differently, but tradition keeps them from utilizing non typical options.
 
There is nothing like a multimillionaire entertainer whining about a contract he signed. Boo freakin' hoo.
 
I think Perterson plays this year but not for the Vikings. At last check several teams still have tons of cap space who might be willing to part with a 3rd or maybe even 2nd round Draft pick for AD.

There is nothing to honor when the contract itself has clauses that allow them to conduct business in this manner. The owners are not breaking contracts when both sides sign it and the contract stipulates the terms. This should be something the players union takes up because they allowed the current conditions to exist.

btw, I'm not on the owners (or players) side, but just stating the current reality allows for this sort of thing to happen.

Do not confuse bilateral with fair. The only thing fair is that both must agree to the terms of the contract, hence bilateral. The alternative is to NOT sign the contract. It is not to use law to compel the other side to get better terms. I bring this up since Nader's suit against the Big Three created fairness by an inappropriate method (using the law rather than negotiation). But it is what it is.

Since there is collective bargaining, and I believe it is NOT compulsory in the case of the NFL, then the Players Union is the one who should play point on changing the terms of the standard contract. THAT'S called negotiation. I bring this up because socialists have passed laws making collective bargaining mandatory on both employers and employees rather than a choice in some instances. Once again ignoring the means in pursuit of the ends.

Now a fair negotiation has terms both sides can live with, but usually both get less than what they want.

Peterson’s new deal includes guaranteed 2015 salary, some injury guarantees for 2016. Reduction in ’16 base he can make up with incentives​




Peterson’s new contract has a base value of $44 million over the next three years.

For 2015, Peterson’s $12.75 million base salary (and unearned $250,000 roster bonus) becomes an $11 million base salary that is fully guaranteed, with a $2 million roster bonus due to be paid on July 28.

For 2016, Peterson will earn a base salary of $7.75 million, $7 million of which is guaranteed for injury only at signing. The rest of it becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2016 league year. Also on the third day of the league year, Peterson earns a $5 million roster bonus.

For 2017, Peterson will earn a base salary of $11.75 million, with a $6 million roster bonus due on the third day of the league year.

In both 2016 and 2017, Peterson can earn another $250,000 by participating in the OTA practices and mandatory minicamps.

It adds up to $44 million. It’s $750,000 less than Peterson already was due to make, but the deal requires the Vikings to make early decisions about Peterson in 2016 and 2017, allowing him to either earn his money from the Vikings or to hit the open market early, before the free-agency money is spent and the roster spots are filled...​
