All Encompassing Matt Schaub Thread

Yeah, dude already is having a bad career after the injury and yet people seem it's right to kick him some more.

Unless Matt is reading this thread (highly unlikely), it is nothing more than virtual friends having an on-going conversation about the best QB in our team's history.

I wish no ill will toward Matt, but I simply cannot feel sorry for the dude. He's a professional football player making a buttload of money for playing terrible. Criticism is part of the profession.

I don't recall anyone feeling sorry for him last year when he set the all-time record for pick 6's in a season. Some went over board in their disdain, but no one was asking for people to give him a break. Dude makes more a year than most will make in a lifetime. He doesn't deserve a break because he was injured a few years ago. If he wants the criticism to stop, all he has to do is stop sucking.

yep. Heck, even those folks that were aggravated at his poor performances last year were upset about the doofus morons that showed up to his house.

I guess I just don't get the sensitive nature of some fans that seem to want us to avoid talking about an NFL player that used to play for the Texans for many years in the NFL section of the forum.

This is not charity work. And there is nothing to "get over". Folks that want to chat about it can come here and chat, and those that seem unable to process the conversation can just avoid entering this thread. It really is as simple as that in the end.

Is it just me or do QBs who start for the Texans suck exponentially more after leaving? Carr was awful in 2006, but was laughably worse in Carolina and SF. Schaub is on a similar trajectory.

Well we seem really pathetic to continue to keep tabs on Schaub & make a big deal about it every time he screws up. He's gone. He's not a Texans anymore. We need to get over it.

I think the Manziel thread runs circles around this thread on the pathetic-o-meter. Actually I don't think this thread is pathetic at all seeing how Schaub is a former Texan. If a thread about Schaub weren't active I'd be surprised. The Manziel thread is the one I don't get.

I get the interest in following ex-Texans. What I don't get is the glee over failures. When we get rid of someone it's like retiring a sheepdog because he's told old to do the job anymore. You don't go kick him every once in awhile and say "yup bastard's too old still."

Everybody who leaves the Texans looks worse - the laundry means a lot around here.

Sometimes feelings mellow after a few years (i.e. DeMeco).

Dude, you really sound like a VY fan with your constant defending of Schaub.

So I sound like a VY fan for defending Schaub? Seems legit. Dude, you sound like a spoiled kid who is not getting his way. Stop stalking me. I have enough stalkers and I never approved your membership in my stalker club. I spoke truth, nothing more. Get over yourself.

It's not his fault that Rick Smith offered him a contract to keep him here two years longer than he should have been. It's not his fault that Kubiak chose him to be our starting QB to begin with. He's just a dude who took advantage of the opportunities afforded him.

Continuing to bring him up is juvenile. It's not like he's out there taking shots at H-Town, the Texans, or Texans' fans.

:bravo:

It is pretty easy to figure out. It is a backlash against the overwhelming hype for a player that has not proven a dern thing at the pro level.

Merchandise sales obviously drives media coverage, so we see constant updates on NFLN and ESPN about a BACKUP QB with marginal talent.

Some people resent the hype and unearned media coverage when it could be a spotlight on more deserving players.

It's as simple as that at the end of the day. Same thing happened with VY and Tebow, but at least those guys actually played some pro ball for the coverage. Manziel is just a clown right now.

As much as I loved to hate Schaub after our two playoff seasons, I wish him nothing but the best in whatever it is he chooses to do with life after football.

All you guys that are not happy with Mallet/Hoyer.... What Ya think? :voodoo:

With looks like these, I'm thinking Hollywood is in his future.
Freddy Krueger..? Jason...?
Oooh... I know Frankenstein! He wouldn't even have to fake the walk
:D

Edit:
As an admitted, unashamed Schaub "apologist" (whatever that means) I only wish him the best.

I agree with the folks who would like to see people move on and refrain from bashing Schaub at this point. He isn't hurting the Texans with his play, nor is he taking verbal shots at the franchise in any way shape or form. Schaub was a really nice guy from what I have heard about him, and he played some good football here for a short while. Things didn't end well, and he became brutal to watch, but I don't think he should be bashed at this point. Schaub will be out of the league very soon I'd imagine, and he'll have a nice life after football.

Sage should of started over Farve when he was there for that really bad last year

Alex brink started for the CFL for a few years

matt lineart retired

tj yates will prb be forced to retire lol

who know what CHase future is in st Louis

btw why did he decided to just stop shaving when he went to Oakland he never did that here cept for the last year

I'd cheer Schaub if all he did after football was take a baseball bat and hit Albert Haynesworth in the head not unlike

giphy.gif

and ended up having to spend the rest of his life in jail.

The haynesworth injury to him flat out sucked. Shitty ass timing by the football Gods. I truly belive we would have been in the Super Bowl that year with schaub at the helm instead of TJ.

But that is another story and it probably happens to alot more clubs than i pay attention to..aka last year Arizona got bit. They had a very good super bowl bound team

Step away from the bong. That was arguably the best season of Favre's career - 68.4% comp. (highest of career), 4202 yds, 33 TDs, 7 INTs (lowest of career), 107.2 rating (highest of career), 7.9 ypa (highest of career).

Much like the Spanish Inquisition, no one expected the Matt Schaub market to heat up quite as it has.

Now, there may even be a leader in the clubhouse.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, Schaub is expected to visit the Ravens early this week.

The Jets and Falcons have also shown some interest in the 33-year-old quarterback, along with the Cowboys and Titans.

Look for former Raiders QB Matt Schaub to sign this week, per source. Interested teams include Jets, Ravens, Falcons, amongst others.

Interesting about the Falcons. He'd be going full circle in his career. I wish him the best (unless he plays us, of course). I never had anything against Matt. It was just time to part ways, but he's still the best QB this franchise has ever had.

I wonder if going a year with very little wear on that bad foot will help him... or is that a no-recover type of injury...?

I wonder how much of this interest is because of Palmer's resurgence in Arizona. .. then again why would the Ravens & Falcons be interested in a Carson Palmer type of resurgence?

Props to him for still cashing in when practically everyone (except for said teams) knows he's done.

Maybe when 5 NFL teams are interested (including the GM commonly considered the NFL's best) everyone should reconsider their certainty.

Or they're just looking for experience at the back up position rather than the past two years of film.

I enjoyed watching Schaub run the offense when he was of sound body and mind. Now? Pffft, good dude and would love to have a few beers with him, but wouldn't want him near our team again

I wonder if the situations were reversed, let's say Schaub's exact rise & fall happened in Carolina. How many people in TT would be urging Rick to bring him here? I would guess majority of people would rather have Schaub here, battling Mallet, instead of Hoyer. Just my guess.

I don't know. Its possible. I never saw schaub as anything but a chad Pennington type qb without the moxy--but was good in kubiaks offense.

So even if I had a less informed opinion because he played in another city for a team I didn't watch all the time, I still don't believe I'd be clamping for him.

Maybe going to another teams board and you'd get a better sense on an "outsiders" view of him and what fans may think if the situation was as you laid out. You might be surprised.

Last few comments I came across on the Ravens MB:

Schaub is far from finished and can be a great veteran back-up for at least one season. He had one disasterous season and flourished in system that we now use; Trestman's style offense is close to Kubiak's. If ever called upon he could prosper here and we do well with reclaiming once good players off the scrap heap.

I heard Matt Schaub is visiting us this week. More than likely if his price is right and more importantly his arm is right, then I think he will be a good pickup for us. Obviously, we installed Kube's offense last year and Trestman has assured us he wouldn't change too much around. So, who better than Schaub as back up since he knows Kube's offense inside out (hopefully)!

schaub to the ravens sound good.

i feel like he could get us to the playoffs and that's what is important as a franchise if we do not win it all. we don't have flashy guys, so we have to get respect by being in the playoffs every year.

if we get a couple more rings we can have an off year here and there and still get benefit of the doubt.

Didn't see a single negative.

Last year Matt Schaub was 10 of 5 with 2 pic 6's.

Bottom line is Matt Schaub isn't good enough to be a Raider. That should spell it out right there.

The Cowboys and Ravens make sense. Especially the Cowboys, Schaub has to be a better backup than Weeden, right? Can't recall off the top of my head who Flacco's back up is...

Matt Schaub is a serviceable Veteran QB who can still make all the throws necessary to stake the opposition to a 6pt lead....

Flacco has never missed a game. Continuity in the system is important for him as he had his best year last year under Kubiak. Schaub's as turnkey a backup/sideline coach as they could get. Makes perfect sense to me.

yep... didn't get to keep Kubiak so they got his padawan learner

While I freely admit he never approached elite status, I'm one of those who believes Matt doesn't get the credit he should for his time here. While I clearly agree with the Texans decision to move on from him , I won't presume to act like I know whether he's totally washed up or not.

I will say that if he gets an opportunity to take meaningful snaps in 2015 (kind of unlikely based on Flacco's durability), it will be fascinating to watch that play out.

Good Luck Matt!
