TTalk Big Board

Do you think he might fall to us? If so, would you take him over all other prospects that might fall to us?

Now this is where your need discussion kicks in. Does this guy fill a more important need than "all the other prospects" under consideration?

Some teams stacked their boards thusly...

Then use practice drafts for arguing the merit of 2nd OLB vs 5th WR vs 2nd CB (equal grades) if/when that decision situation arises.

They'll also flag every "medical" player and every "character issues" player.

Then during the draft they talk about his good looking girlfriend & cockfidence...

I didn't communicate it well, but this is kinda what I was talking about. Whereas this specific team had a boatload of DE listed in first round and no LB, we might have a boatload of LB listed and few DE but more CB and S. Or maybe a boatload of DT and CB with few DE or LB...

Now does this listing indicate that they think only the guys listed are worthy of drafting in round X or that they aren't "shopping" for the empty positions?

Just a guess, but if you look at Round 1 offense, you'll see most of the blanks are for positions not tradionally taken in the first round. FB, TE, OG, C... I'm sure if there was a Gronk in this class, he'd be there.

Playoffs, good find. Thanks for posting.

From the looks of this board, they don't think there are any OGs, OCs, or FBs worthy of taking in the first three rounds. While that may be true this draft, I find it hard to believe - resident draftniks please tell me if you agree/disagree. Seems to me like they aren't shopping for those positions so those spots weren't included on their board.
I, too, am just guessing.

It's only an example of how teams stack draft boards, not to be relied upon for anything more than that...

But to your question, the above would be an overall board. So if there's no C in Round 1, they don't have one rated there. Notice the ratings numbers... 90s in Round 1, 80s in Round 2, 70s in Round 3.

Aaaah... thanks. That helps me a lot.

Bah, check out some of North Carolina St. Rob Crisp and tell me what you think.

I think he's going to do very well at the combine in tests and interviews. He's special the way he moves at his size.

Thanks for the updated big board.

Thanks bah007.

Everyone else who still wants to participate, how do you want to go from here? Do you want to take bah007's list & consolidate to one list, or do you want to go through his list first, regrade/rank them, then consolidate to a big board?

Just a heads up bah007 but Jake McGee got a medical waiver to return to Florida for a 6th year.

He gets another waiver? Didn't he just get one for his fifth year to transfer from Virginia? Lucky guy.

Thanks for the heads up. I feel like he's been in college for almost a decade.

Crisp is on my radar and I would definitely bring him to camp. But I wouldn't use a draft pick on him. He's missed more games than he's played. That kind of injury history is scary.

No doubt but I doubt the Texans or any other team leave guys off their big board because they think they will go before they pick. If we are going to this why not do it right? Either way is fine with me but I would rather be thorough.

You need 16 names to have a big board for the first Texans pick. The probability that they won't be there is fundamental to the procedure. Only one is likely to be there, but that is all you need. you never know when a higher ranked play may be there.

Yea he got a waiver as a grad transfer to Florida and then got a medical for breaking his leg in the first game and missing the entire season.

Lucky for him that the NCAA granted it, but he's just fortunate to be playing at a big time program. If he played for Florida Atlantic I can almost guarantee that his request would have been denied. The NCAA is so inconsistent across the board with these rulings and they tend to be more much more lenient with waivers when big programs are concerned.

I'm hoping the front office spends high picks on ILB,DB,WR after that fill in depth.

You could do worse than spending a 6-7th rd pick on a guy with Crisp's abilities.

I agree. I'm not against him, he's just not a guy I would target in the draft. I search for guys that are low risk/high reward, and I don't see Crisp that way.

I've been digging on some Nelson Agholor recently...

The way he moves, walks, runs reminds me of someone in the NFL but I can't figure out who it is? Size independent, who is it...?

Well as a returner, Agholor reminds me of Jacoby Jones. He's a much better receiver than Jones, though.

I'm a high risk in rds 6-7 kind of guy. Injury/Character

If they bust out you really haven't lost much. What hurts are the B/T Williams/Montgomery picks in rds 3-4. That's no time to take a chance on a guy unless he has unreal talent, which none of these guys had.

Say if DGB is there in the 3rd I would be willing to take that risk.

I don't know if I have a player comp for Agholor. He's a unique prospect, high school S turned college WR.

What I do know is that I would love to have him as my slot WR.

I had him as a late 1st/early 2nd round prospect at the beginning of the season and I was laughed at (The mighty WalterFootball only had him as a 3rd, and we all know he knows how to evaluate). Now we're nearing the end of the process and I am shocked (not really) that people are starting to jump on the bandwagon.

To each their own and if we made that move I certainly wouldn't complain about it. It's just not the move I would make if I were in charge.

Perhaps my memory is failing, but weren't we going to put together a TexanTalk Big board based on the Texans perspective (as opposed to predicting the draft itself)?

Or is my memory failing me by inventing something that didn't happen?

Or is it located elsewhere?

Check out the search function - try titles only first.

Here it is. It puttered out with folks not able to agree what the project meant.

This is not a Mock and is Texan specific. Still, if it belongs elsewhere, please move it.

I don't think either QB is on our big board in the first. But we lose nothing if someone else takes them and moves the other players down toward our pick.

11. DeVonte Parker WR
12. La'el Collins OT/OG
13. Landon Collins SS
14. T. J. Clemmings OT
15. Andrus Pete OT
16. Malcom Brown DT

I don't think either QB is on our big board in the first. But we lose nothing if someone else takes them and moves the other players down toward our pick.

The biggest problem I have with this is if by chance both Winston & Mariota makes it to 16 (imagine you had Bridgewater & Mettenberger as the best QBS in 2014 or Geno & EJ in 2013)... then you've got to have a discussion that you should have already had... are they better prospects than what's left or not.

Or if they fall to 8... is the value there to trade up?

I'd also believe we'd rate the pro-ready Cooper ahead of the human video game White. & if I were doing a BigBoard there would be no "slash" positions. The guy is an OT or he's an OG. He's a DE or he's a DT. We're projecting them to our team, not for "whatever" team.

Dead on. This is the fallacy of wiping positions and players off the board entirely.

Speaking for the you portion of we.

Agreed.

Marshall, I am definitely ok with your thread but disagree that if some of those listed were available #16, I would run to the front waving my paper. Also, that you identify those that can play two positions is also correct way to list as it offers more value. Description of why and which the player should be used can be added in a mock. A true corner like Waynes should be listed only as CB and then a corner like Damian Swann that can and has played safety as well and could be used either way should be identified CB/S. I usually place position I see him playing first if not giving a description. Not all who read these type threads know the players are their positions. Good work.

Good point on projecting to our team. But we do sometimes project players as multipositional talents who can move as needed.

I still don't think either project QB gets picked with our 1-16 over the players listed. If you want to trade up to the bottom of the first, then that might be an option.

After reading clarifications on the other post. I see we're really talking about the same thing and not something different. A TexansTalk Texans Big Board.

Please merge with the other post by Thunderkyss.

I can see not putting them on your board. As long as you know you're going to take either of them if they fall to 16.

I see what you're saying, but my position is that any player on the list is preferable to either QB. I don't use a positional multiplier like most do.

There seems to be a problem identifying what a TEXANS' Big Board is. It is not a draft or prediction of the draft. It is not broken down by any category.

1. Of all the players in the draft, who would the Texans choose?

The answer is position one on the Texans Draft Board.

2. Of all the players in the draft not already on the Texans Big Board, who would the Texans choose?

The answer is added to the bottom of the Texans Draft Board.

3... See 2 and repeat.

Nothing is adjusted for the probability they may or may not be available or affected by what we've already done. That is for mocking which is something else.

Let us begin again:

With every player in the draft available, who would you want the Texans to pick. Include any adjustments you want here to get the best player you think fits the needs of the Texans the most.

Position 1

Leonard Williams. [Marshall]

Select your nominees. Then perhaps after some discussion, we can get a poll-maker to get a consensus pick. Then we move on.

This is my suggestion on how to proceed.

has to be Leonard Williams for me no other DT/De comes close. I like White a lot but Parker right there with him and Cooper not far off.

1. Leonard Williams. DE/DT USC [Marshall][badboy]

Nominations are open for position 2.

Dante Fowler OLB/DE [Marshall]
Kevin White WR WVU [beerlover]

If we're going on the assumption Clowney won't return then Vic Beasley

If we think he will then Amari Cooper

Beasley might have the best first step in the draft. His burst off the ball frequently catches tackles off-balance and he's able to cross their face. Beasley has the flexibility to be able to duck their reach and turn the corner, showing excellent speed to close. Beasley complements his speed rush with a balanced and tight spin back to the inside and a surprisingly effective bull rush.

Excellent quickness and balance to get a clean release against press coverage and to make defenders miss in space. Accelerates in a flash, generating the burst to gain separation from top cornerbacks.
Makes the spectacular reception look easy with terrific hand-eye coordination and awareness to high-point passes. Competitive blocker.
