Texans' additions not enough to dethrone the Colts in the division

Wait...the Titans got better?

You have to understand Norg's spelling is atrocious because he doesn't have fingers:

eeyore.jpg

Actually Norg has explained here on the forum that he doesn't have the time to spell things correctly due to his important work outside of sports discussion based fora taking up much of his attention.

I proper miss Dutchrudders 'Norg-speak to UK-English' translations a couple of years back, truly hilarious!

Back on-topic, it pains me to say it but I really like the direction the Colts are taking, they've just spent some serious $ on a couple of positions to help their Young stud QB develop further during the final 2 years of his rookie contract, money that won't be available for them once they are forced to re-up at the crazy rate elite QBs such as him command. They get to spend the next 3 drafts pre-loading with the rookies they'll need to have around him when those cap hits arrive and that sets them up for years.

BOB has a job on his hands trying to chase them down and all because their nadir season happened to coincide with a true generational talent at the most important position in the draft.

We've gone about things the right way for us, I feel, and an offseason of relative pain as compared to our division rival actually sets us up to keep JJ Watt at an incredibly reasonable cap # once we get through this season and leaves us time to find our QB solution. I think our QB situation improves next season, our D improves next season, and so does our future cap.

If Hopkins shows more development, and our TE group gives us an outlet, then coupled with the addition of Shorts III and a decent rookie it isn't a stretch to see our receiving corps as a whole improve year on year. And then the only thing that's left to wonder about is the centre position, possibly its knock on effect at LG where we already have a highly touted 2nd year to come in.

The holes we have at LB were already apparent last season, and Reed was never a difference maker anyway. We can stock up in the draft with a great coach to coach around the problems.

So all in all...we're on the right track. :thisbig:

Who the heck is that guy? Did he not watch the game the last time the Texans played the Colts? A hard-fought 17-10 loss at that dump of a stadium they have up in Indy. We finished that game with an injured Tom Savage playing quarterback for crying out loud. Andre Johnson, the Colts' so-called big acquisition, was out with a concussion and didn't even play in that game. At his age any good lick up high and he's not a lock to even be on the field.

We held the Colts to a season low in points and yardage last season during any of their home games. I think the Texans are very close to surpassing the Colts for the AFC South division title. A lot depends on how we continue to play hard and work as a team. Bill O'Brien is a heck of a football coach and a 9-7 rookie season under his belt was encouraging.

I admit T.Y. Hilton is a young stud and stopping him is still critical toward beating the Colts, but it will take more than a couple of aging players like Andre Johnson and Frank Gore to really scare me. The Colts are all hype and nothing more. I can't wait until we kick their ass "TWICE" in 2015.

Or one well timed leg whip :bat:

Yep

Wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if Luck got Fitz Savaged.

Then the Refs couldn't even cheat enough to help the Colts win. If the refs are going to cheat the Texans mission should be to win/lose/draw take Luck out. Turn about is fair play.

This may be a wishful thinking more than anything because I hate them, but it felt like they've been extremely lucky in the way they've played the last two seasons. Playing in the AFC South hasn't hurt them either. Always feels to me like they're an inch away from from a disaster season if a few key plays go against them during the season.

I'm expecting this to be their disaster season. They still haven't learned that you have to play defense.

I'd really rather beat him healthy so there are no excuses.

Wait...the Titans got better?

Just wait to see how many picks they get for their #2 overall in the Draft if they trade it. So the Titans could end up with a boatload of Dvaft picks and get lots of help in the upcoming Draft.

lol seriously? Pagano is a TERRIBLE head coach. I have many friends who are Colts fans who would agree with me.

be prepared: this media slobbing of the Colts nether regions will only get worse as the off season progresses. I have faith O'Brien wont quote them word for word but I do believe one of his first comments to the team going into training camp will be: "No one thinks you are worth a ****!"
Pagano's "terrible" coaching leads them to beat us consistently with inferior talent. Just luck? He saw the need early for a gimmick in the last game, and the sucessful onside kick left our team and coaching staff looking liked spanked school kids.

I'm reminded of the guy who said the salesmen were no good, but they had good pianos, and he bought one.

The article was spot on. We didn't do enough.

But that's okay. They have an elite QB. We don't have a clue what the hell we got at QB, and until we do know that we won't be beating Luck as they'll very likely improve from last year. The Colts have the best chance to make it to the SB in AFC next year in my opinion.

The Texans didn't have a bad FA period though. We filled a few holes for contracts that weren't to bad. I think we'll be competitive next year.

Anyone thinking that we'll take the division from the Colts next year though is dreaming. We'll have to take the wild card to make it to the playoffs. Unless Luck gets hurt, or their team has a flurry of injuries all over the place, the Colts will take the division.

Last year we had no QB and nearly had them, if Mallet is what i believe he is then we will get those 7 more points and win.

Your kidding yourself if you think it is our coaching staffs fault about the onside kick. It was still the first half of the game, who would expect that ? Easy to look back now and say what should of been done, but it's not that simple.

In a QB-fappy league, every team with a great-to-elite QB has to be considered a contender every season regardless of their off-season moves.

Even with the problems the Colts had on defense and o-line, they were still in the AFC Championship game. They have a great QB, and this league has now been slanted in such favor of that one position that any team without a solid QB starts off at a severe disadvantage.

We can daydream and conjure up all kinds of imaginative scenarios, but the reality is that until the Texans find their QB, the Colts will always be considered top dog as long as they have Luck.

While i agree to an extent, i believe a good enough Defense can still win a SB.

Exactly. They're one of a handful of teams with a franchise quarterback and are completely in a win now position. They're the shortest odds for the SB and have the luxury of upgrading their weaknesses through the draft.

We don't even know who our starting QB is.

I'm not saying we can't beat them if things work out well for us and the stars align - any given Sunday and all that, but a cold analysis of where each team is in the proven important positions shows that they're ready to dive into the deep end while we're still splashing around in the kiddy pool.

I actually think Andrew luck is a little over-rated and the media are too full of him - hence their position of SB favorites - but there's no denying he's a proven winner whereas we're resorting to hoping one of our guys is ok.

I'll take Luck over Hope any day of the week.

"Defense does not win championships, it gives your team a chance & your offense has to win it for you!!"
~ Warren Sapp, HoF member of the 2002 NFL Champions Buccaneers

At the end of the day, good teams win Super Bowls. It's all about scoring more points than the other team, and there is one side of the ball that exists with that sole objective.

How are the Eagles tier 1 team? They're in the same situation as we are. No QB. Then they traded away the rest of their offense.
You're probably reading on Tapatalk on your phone. It doesn't show bold text. I bolded the three tier 1 teams with double digit leads over the Colts.

& included the Broncos & Eagles as elite teams that beat them by less than 10. Every other team on that list I agree are elite. Eagles, not so much.

Then again, I don't consider the Cowboys elite & they won by double digi.

Wow, did you channel your inner John Madden for that one?

yep. Sometimes the obvious is not so obvious to some folks. A great defense, in and of itself, does not win championships. That overused cliché has some truth to it, but it is not completely truthful.

But stop the other team from scoring ANY points and your chances are pretty good !

Only thing left would be for Luck to scramble into the endzone for a game winning TD and proclaim NRG his house! LOL

Why doesnt Luck seem to get the same type of love that Vince got?

Ill just leave this here....

Or if you can find it, the hit to Savage's leg below the knee that would've put us 1st down at their 20 something yardline....you know that's the same kind of hit that JJ Watt gets penalized for.

Oh man, there was a pages-long argument between me and the Colts fans on their forum about those hits. They swore they were legal, clean hits and we lost because we suck.

Only thing missing from that "clean hit" on Fitz was someone screaming 'Sweep the leg Johnny!!"

To be more detailed, they said the Savage hit was clean and the Fitz trip was completely accidental.

lol. Watch that gif. The defensive player stops and plants his leg knowing Fitz is gone if he doesn't. Not aimed at you but Dolts fans.

After that game I kept shaking my head saying "This team always gets so lucky..." "How many times has JJ gotten flagged for that same hit?"

Then Indy barely pulls one out against Cleveland.

I'm so glad that Mallet or Hoyer will get a full offseason to work with our team and ALL receivers this year. I really think that'll make a huge difference.

1 Their kicker consistently puts it out of the endzone anyway.
2. He had already shown he was kicking well that day.
3. Pagano had a history of trying tricky stuff (and making it work).
So BoB should have told his team to be alert for the onside.

Like i said easy to sit here and say that now.

Negative, the ST's coach and ST's should ALWAYS be alert for the onside kick.
re., Saints in the SB.

I know who Rick Smith wants at pick #16 in the first round.
Hopefully he's still on the board when we come up or trade up.

I'm already focusing on the Texans having a successful 2015 draft class.
My goodness gracious if our 2014 draft class comes alive we'll stomp the Colts.

Colts didn't allocate their cap resources wisely in my opinion. Their offensive and defensive lines need work and might be their achilles heel next season. The best free agent signing in the AFC South was NT Vince Wilfork. With Wilfork, The Texans added a "M9 Armored Combat Earthmover" to the defensive line. I believe the second best signing overall in the AFC South was S Rahim Moore - he gives the Texans excellent quick strike ability down field.

The Colts have what seems to be the least turbulent transition of their squad from last season to next in AFC (among teams that matter). But I don't really care who is anointed as a SB champion in March. Free agency isn't over. Draft hasn't happened. None of this means much yet, IMO.

No one anointed them as a champion. I said they were the SB favorite out of the AFC on paper right now. Trying to exaggerate my words, doesn't make your arguements sound better. Their significant advantage at QB makes them a much easier bet than the Texans no matter how much hope you have.

Of course I'm dreaming. That's what being a fan is mostly about. Being a fan of a professional sports team is kind of silly to begin with for a grown adult if you really think about it, so in that context, there is nothing wrong with dreaming.

Never said there was. It isn't a very realistic dream though. I'm sure that Raiders fans right now are having the same dreams of taking over the division from Denver as well, but it isn't very realistic either. But sure, fans can say they're dreaming.
