2015 free agents

want to bet a player gets signed before 12:10 tonight?

Who was the Texan player that was signed , like, 5 minutes after FA started a few years back? barwin? Name escapes me but that made me chuckle when teams cannot make "offers"

Andrew Brandt ‏@adbrandt
Jaguars pitching DeMarco Murray. Signed highest-paid FA RB last year -- Toby Gerhart (yes, him). Could they do the same this year?

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
Colts agreed to terms with free agent defensive end Kendall Langford.

Eagles, Jaguars, Raiders eyeing DeMarco Murray

After a flurry of trades, cuts and signings, DeMarco Murray remains the biggest of names left on the open market. So where will he land?

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the former Dallas Cowboys running back is receiving interest from the Philadelphia Eagles and remains "intrigued" by the concept of playing for coach Chip Kelly.

Oh how I hope the cowpukes lose Murray.

Well crap. Jason Worilds is retiring at 27.

From PFT

According to his agent, Jason Bernstein, linebacker Jason Worilds has elected to hang up his cleats and retire from the NFL.

“I appreciate all of the interest from the organizations that have reached out to us the past few days,” Worilds said in a statement released by his agent. “With that being said, after much thought & consideration I have chosen to step away from football as I have opted to pursue other interests. I am especially grateful of the opportunity to play before some of the greatest fans in football today. Despite any concern and speculation that may ensue, I appreciate those that are respectful of my decision.”

u would think with so much cap space the raiders would be splurging day 1 but they only signed 2 players so far while the jags have got 4 new quality players and working on there 5th Murry

I saw this a couple of times yesterday but didn't see it posted. Eric Winston back with the Bengals

The Bengals were indeed active Tuesday as free agency began with the start of the new league year.

First they brought back veteran offensive tackle Eric Winston, ensuring the swing tackle position would have an operator in the 2015 season. Even after signing Marshall Newhouse last offseason to take Anthony Collins' place, there still were questions about whether the Bengals had found a reliable backup. Those questions grew louder each time Newhouse was inserted in a game in relief at the right tackle spot. They only faded after Winston was brought out of street free agency in the final weeks of the 2014 season.

Dolphins released Randy Starks this morning.

Dolphins had to clear some cap space
Jayson Braddock ‏@JaysonBraddock 2m2 minutes ago
Knew it would be either him or Earl Mitchell based on Suh RT @ArmandoSalguero: DT Randy Starks has been cut by the Dolphins this morning.

Dude has banked $13+ million and is walking away while he still has his health and is pretty young. Why not?

I'm not going to kick the guy but he's in line for a 3 year $24+ mil payday and still retire at 30.

This is the first year he has had "real" money. It's new to him. I hope he fully appreciates that whatever he has left of the $13 mil is not the bottomless pit it feels like while $10 mil is getting paid out over a 17 week span.

Well he can sit out this year and if he changes his mind, someone will pay him to make a comeback. Maybe not at that $24+ figure but it won't be vet min either.

And maybe it's as simple as he's just not "feelin' it" any more.

First Locker, now Worlds. Worlds was certainly in for a bigger payday, but Locker would have been getting sizable checks to back somebody up.

First Maurice Jones-Drew, then Patrick Willis, Jake Locker, Jason Worilds.

I realize the first two have made their money relative to the last two, but still a bunch of guys 30 or younger all gettin out while they feel the gettin's good.

The Raiders have been surprisingly smart so far. They overpaid for Hudson but he is one of the best Center's in the league and they signed Helu to a great contract yesterday. They signed Dan Williams and Curtis Lofton this morning (2 really big needs for them).

Meanwhile the Jags overpaid for a one dimensional TE, overpaid for a RT with 7 career starts, overpaid for a reserve OLB with 5.5 career sacks, gave $8.5M a year to a decent starting DT, and overpaid for a decent CB who has potential but only 14 career starts.

Just can't get beyond not "feelin' it" being childish selfishness he will regret later. It's not even about him per se. We're talking generational money.

Jaguars add another piece

i remember there were folks high on this kid when he came out a few years ago. hadn't heard from him since. That tells me all i need to know. Jags don't know what the hell they're doing.

What the hell happened to BJ Raji? I know he was hurt, but he still has a world of talent, haven't seen much about him.

He tore his biceps last year and missed the whole season. It's pretty much known across the league that the Packers are going to bring him back on another 1 yr deal.

According to #Steelers sources, Jason Worilds told them he wants to devote his time to working for his religion.

and there's that

Jeff McLane ‏@Jeff_McLane
Chip Kelly couldn't answer question about Ryan Mathews, but now he can: former Chargers RB signed a 3-year deal w/ the #Eagles.

Albert Breer ‏@AlbertBreer
Jaguars TE Julius Thomas' new deal worth $46M over five years, with $21M fully guaranteed and $28.3M in first 3 years.

I can. Same exact equation. Generational security for 3 years. God would have survived the delay.

Tons of people in this world work jobs they hate.

And tons of people quit jobs they like in order to do what they love.
Kinda confused as to why you think your values or judgement should apply to his decision. What you describe might be right for you, and for millions of others, but it' totally subjective and therefor kinda silly for you to say he is wrong.

Kinda confused where my comments are taken as anything but my opinion. Never said he didn't have every right in the world to do what he wants. But I think he's making a mistake. He is an exceedingly perishable product with a powerball lottery ticket in his hand. I don't have a care in the world what he does for his own enjoyment and life - go be Spicoli if that's what he likes. I think it's incredibly short sighted and yes selfish that he can't delay his preferred job for 3 years for his family. And while we're at it, for his faith calling as well. $24 mil and good intentions goes a lot further than just good intentions.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet
The #Dolphins gave CB Brice McCain a 2-year deal that can be worth $5.5M with $3M guaranteed. He made $815K last year

Joel Corry ‏@corryjoel
The $22.5M of GTD money in Jeremy Maclin's 5-year, $55M deal is a $12M signing bonus, $750k 2015 base salary & $9.75M 2016 base salary.

The bolded illustrates my point. You call it selfish but that is based on your value system. Maybe he already delayed his preferred job long enough.
Maybe he only played long enough to enable him to do what he is doing now. Maybe he values teaching his kids about service over gaining wealth. Maybe he has a secondary source of income. And, maybe his values are different from yours. Scratch that, his values are definitely different from yours (not better, or worse, just different).
I just don't see how you can label his actions selfish if he is following a path based on his own values. Especially when you can't state categorically that he has not already provided adequately for his family's future, or at least has the ability to provide for them.

There were about 465 free agents. About 50 have signed so far. It's about the big names, I know, but so much more movement left.

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
Patriots signing former Browns LB/DE Jabaal Sheard to a 2-year deal worth $11 million, per source, including $5.5 million guaranteed.

Good player.

& playing football may be that job for him.

I'd be a teacher if I was financially independent.

This

I admire Worilds for following what he felt called to do. It takes a man of great faith to turn down that kind of $$$$$/Fame/$$$$$

Cak could never understand a person of true faith like Worilds. He puts his faith above all like the bible teaches.

Suh is pals with Warren Buffett... can you tell?

At this point if you were a player the Bucs gave any substantial money to between 2011-2014 there's a helluva chance you ain't there anymore

All of those "winning free agency" contracts getting dumped.

Ed Werder ‏@Edwerderespn
Source describes #Cowboys, #Eagles, #Raiders as "getting very competitive" for DeMarco Murray

So to you there's no difference between the Bills & Bucs signing the best players in the league & the Seahawks & Colts improving their rosters?

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
Antrel Rolle has signed a 3-year deal with the Bears for $11,25 million, including $5 million guaranteed, per @drewrosenhaus.

Mike Garafolo ‏@MikeGarafolo
WR Eddie Royal leaves the Chargers to head to the Bears, as @UTgehlken said.

Looks like DeMarco Murray is going to be a spiteful prick and pick division rival Philly over Oakland and Jax.

Or it's the best team of the three.

Hey I'd do it to the cowpukes too, but that's just me. I think it was a mistake on their part letting him test the waters.
