Let's keep all 2015 FA info in here. Who we want, who we don't want. Who we think the Texans will chase, who the Texans chase.

Who they land.. I'm sure these will break out into their own threads, but y'know.

I'm really hoping we go after OT Doug Free.

Randall Cobb. Don't laugh Jayson Braddock made a great argument for him today on twitter.

I can see that. I can see us landing him as well.

Some of these other names.. Cobb, Thomas.. those guys aren't coming to Houston. We're not going to be able to offer them the kind of money other teams with better "pedigree" will. Seattle, Indy, San Diego, Cardinals, Giants... Maybe even Minnesota

I would hope not. Last year, Free missed 5 regular season games and both of the Cowboys postseason games due to a left ankle sprain and a "small" fracture of his left midfoot. A 330 pounder with foot and ankle problems already is a recipe for 2 strikes before he gets started.

Kareem Jackson
Devin McCourty
Torrey Smith or Cobb
Jason Worilds

Bulaga who will probably see LT $. I think we can get a starting slot in draft who is a great returner and use that $ on another spot in FA. I offer Bulaga (26 March) a ten year $100 m with $30m guaranteed

That's just crazy.

I'm not saying sign all these guys but here are some guys that I would definitely look at that I think you can get for a bargain.

QB - Ryan Mallett
Slot WR - Harry Douglas
RT - Joe Barksdale, Derek Newton
NT - Dan Williams, Terrance Knighton
SOLB - Jabaal Sheard, Brooks Reed, Sam Acho
ILB - Nate Irving
CB - Kareem Jackson, Walter Thurmond, Darius Butler
S - Kendrick Lewis, Da'Norris Searcy

I really hate spending money in FA unless it's re-signing guys we already had. I do like to find the underrated guys who are better than they get credit for. I can get solid production from them and still sign them under market value.

I like the list but expect someone is going to seriously overpay Kareem, don't think he'll fall into the bargain category.

Good list.

Texans re-sign Mallett/Newton/Pickett/Lewis,

FA's

RB- Vereen 3rd down RB playmaker, speed, solves the KR/PR issues.
Te- Paul/Green, gotta have a TE that can stretch the seams and catch the ball. This is a huge need.
Wr's Douglass/Welker/Royal, need a pro's pro to teach the 2 young drafted WR's I would draft the ropes. Solves the KR/PR issues. Bye Martin/Posey.
LB's Irving
CB's Thurmond to replace KJ if KJ commands too much $$$$ on the open market. He's as good or better than KJ if he can stay healthy.

Torrey Smith although he's mostly one dimensional he gives us a vertical presence we've never had, and if we get our strong armed Mallett back I think that would be a very good fit. Cheaper than Cobb or Maclin by far too(should be at least)

Torrey Smith would be ideal, as he can blow the lid off a defense. If Mallet is here, then he certainly has the arm for it.

Wouldn't mind making a run at Sanchez if Mallet bolts. Not a franchise QB by any means, but a better placeholder than anyone else on the roster.

Torrey Smith is a pipe dream waiting to happen. He's fast... but that's about it. Not very good at running routes. Not very good at catching the ball.

There's a place for him on every NFL team, but it would have to be cheap... then when you've got guys coming into the NFL every year, younger, faster... I'm not seeing Torrey Smith.

All this talk of speed. I want 2 complete WRs. If one is fast that is great but route runners, hands, size, feel for zones, etc. is much more important. If all you are getting is speed then he's #3 at best.

Right. He's like a situational pass rusher. You put him on the field in certain situations, like planets aligning & the wind at your back.

Torrey Smith has never struck me as a plus WR. Going deep all day -- before Kubiak -- with one of the best deep ball throwers in the league. Has been near the top in drop rate for years. 11 drops/18% in 2014.

There are plenty of similar prospects in this draft that are easier on the cap.

AJ:

RECEPTIONS 85
YARDS 936
AVE 11.0
TDS 3

T.Smith:

RECEPTIONS 49
YARDS 767
AVE 15.7
TDS 11

I don't think Torrey Smith is all that great, but I think he has value opposite of D-Hop. If they can find a prototypical Patriots-style slot receiver then I would be happy to have Smith on the outside.

With the cap relief from AJ and Myers (and possible others if they are cut) I expect O'Brien to focus on a slot receiver and a true pass catching threat at TE.
I think his philosophy is to attack the middle of the field to keep the middle linebackers and safeties from crashing the line in run support. Under that assumption, I would also expect him to try and get some true deep speed opposite of Hopkins.

I thought that was his philosophy going into last year. And then our TEs disappeared and if we ran slants and drags they sure didn't get targeted much.

Yeah, I wonder about that too. Was it Fitzpatrick, the TEs or coaching at fault for that? Pretty sure it was a combination of the three.

I agree but I would rather see $$$$$ spent re-signing the Texans own FA's and spent on a TE like Paul/Green in FA and draft a Dorsett/Devin Smith in the 2nd rd. Those guys have the same kind of speed that Torrey Smith does but with a higher upside and at a cheaper cost.

I wonder with the Myers cut could the Texans afford both Paul and bring Orakpo home in FA? Especially if they cut Graham?

This is going to be the most interesting offseason since the beginning of the franchise.

That's because the Texans didn't have a WR that could take the top off of a defense so everything became congested, this even caused issues in the run game.

Everybody wants the type WR you described. But you can be successful with avg WR's with specific and differing skillsets. See: the Pats/Seahawks, they choose to spend their cap space elsewhere.

I don't know, but I know I am suddenly excited about free agency. I think we might make some moves. Nothing earth shattering, but still make some additions.

Orakpo of the what 3? torn pectorals causing how many lost seasons? No thanks

^^^ This.

I wasn't expecting us to do much this free agent season except try to sign our own and pick up the dregs we normally do.

But with these two moves, I think we're signalling that we're going to be making a lot more moves than we normally do.

So. Yeah. I'm excited to see how this turns out. I have a feeling we're going to do some things no one's expecting.

Yeah, all the same guys got that much slower. That or the guys talking about route combos and how the TEs weren't being schemed open anymore and Fitz couldn't see the middle of the field had their points.

Tell me when we get a QB in the league of either of those guys (and Gronk). Any comparison to the Pats or Seahawks is useless until that point. That and Wilson is on a rookie contract.

Anyone willing to take a stab at Trent Cole for a year or two until Clowney can show he's able to play? He's up there in age, but still very productive. Just a thought

I'd rather go for Jason Worilds

Good list.

Texans re-sign Mallett/Newton/Pickett/Lewis,

I too can live with that group. I know after Mallet the big re-sign for us would be Kareemn, but ain't gonna happen I don't think because he's gonna hit FA, nd his agent has just got to let him hit FA. 26 year old Corners with Kareems expierence just don't make it to FA every year. They already know what the market is and there's too many teams with tons of cap space who have the need. Pickett isn't a top priority and he and Lewis should break the bank and they played well for u last year. Actually I wonder about Lewis, he' still fairly young maybe we are taking him for granted, there could be competition for him ?

Ok I dont want to be "THAT GUY" ,because I know it's ludicrus to say the name but...

SUH.

We're cutting players and will cut some more. Just trying to make sense of it. There's a plan at Kirby isnt there ,or just maybe "THAT GUY" works there?

:rake:

Believe what you want. Did you notice that the 2 WR's BOB interviewed at the Sr Bowl. were Devin Smith and Phillip Dorsett the 2 fastest WR's there.

Tell me again who was the Seahawks TE last yr?

I don't think having upwards of 1/3 of your cap going into your DL is a very practical way to be successful down the line but having Donkey Kong here would make that defense very entertaining. :kingkong:

Agreed, KJ is going to cost to much on the open market. I'm sure they will bring in another S all teams can use a 3rd S since Swearinger plays at LB in nickel a lot of the time. I could see re-signing Lewis and drafting a S to replace Manning unless they have seen a lot of progress from Ballentine. Competition is always a great thing.

Not a FA but for a 6th or 7th... (from PFT.com)

According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, the club has placed fourth-year pro Michael Wilhoite on the trading block.

With Navorro Bowman (knee) missing the entire season and Patrick Willis (toe) sitting out the final 10 games, the 28-year-old Wilhoite was a 16-game starter for San Francisco in 2014, notching 87 tackles, six passes defended and two picks.

However, Wilhoite figures as a backup this season, and the 49ers are willing to move the exclusive-rights free agent, the Bee reports. The club seeks a sixth- or seventh-round pick, the newspaper said.

I agree wholeheartedly but how often has our cap been managed practically?

I was wondering if anyone would throw his name out there. However improbable it may be, it sure is intriguing. Just how dominating could this defense be by adding Suh? That's not even taking into account a healthy Clowney. JJ could get 30 sacks with Suh on the team. :yikes:

How fantastic would it be to see jj, suh, and a Clowney who lives up to his billing? Trouble is it's a serious misallocation of cap and we have to actually start nailing draft picks. We dont do that. Its a techmobowl fantasy.

Why not Dan Williams ??

Orakpo of the what 3? torn pectorals causing how many lost seasons? No thanks

2011 rupture of the musculotendinous area of the left pectoralis muscle

2012 rerupture of musculotendinous area of the left pectoralis muscle

2014 preseason partial tear of the tendon of the right pectoralis muscle

2014 rupture of the tendon of the right pectoralis muscle

pec%20major%20areas.jpg

In the type of position that Orakpo plays, where his arm can often be violently pushed backwards at the shoulder. a rupture on one side is commonly followed in time with a rupture on the other side. And when a musculotendinous rupture (rupture not at the attachment of the tendon to the bone, but at where the muscle meets the tendon), a reliable repair is difficult to affect. This is in contrast to a tendon to bone repair being very reliable. I would be specifically very concerned that his right pectoralis muscle empirically remains at significant increased risk to rerupture. And his right pectoralis being at increased risk to re-injury due to probable compensating positioning (for example, in tackling, taking angles that would put most resistance on his right arm) due to chronic residual weakness of the left pectoralis muscle unit.
