9. TEXANS SOURCE (2/2) Team has "locked in" on a change-of-pace back. Between the 7000 of us, it's Ameer Abdullah.

as of now I have Crockett with a 6th comp but do expect him to climb. Foster and Blue and either late day 3 or a UDFA.

Do we need one? Yes.

Do we draft one? I say, yes.

Who do you like, what round would you use? I like Ameer Abdullah. But, I also like Duke Johnson. I don't know if the Texans will be ready to take a RB when these guys will be available. I like Miss State's Josh Robinson on the 3rd day. Not as explosive as Abdullah or Johnson. But, he can become a Shane Vereen type for the Texans on 3rd down. And, I think Robinson is a stronger runner than Vereen.

I wonder if we get a SlotWR type from RB ranks?

Dark horse from LZ...

RB31 Scheuerman, Ross Lafayette

exactly what I was looking for when I found Crockett. Doesn't have the speed but good hands and could be the answer.

Agree on one and two.

Not sure when we should draft one, but Arian could drop at any time. It would be lovely to find a nice RB in the first three rounds of this draft.

Pretty much where I'm at. I wouldn't be opposed to Gordon in the first if he was the top guy on our board. Other than that, rds 3 or 4 will present equal value.

From the premise of 'change of pace back" I really want to see 40 times because sounds like we may be looking for a burner that can catch

Yes, we need one. Yes, we should draft one. This offense suffers too much when Foster goes down and he's missed eleven games the past two seasons. I haven't studied too much college football to have a preference which one we should go with but if there's a good one in the 2nd or 3rd round I hope we go that route.

David Johnson used to play WR, would be a real weapon in the slot.
David Cobb
Duke Johnson

This is the reason why I wouldn't have a problem with Gordon in the 1st with AF playing in the slot some. 2 very dynamic weapons.

Yes we need one, and yes I think we should draft one. If I'm the GM, I'd look to the later rounds 5th-7th for a couple reasons. First off this is a deep FA class with alot of talent that will be filling many teams needs prior to the draft so there won't be as big of a need in the draft for many teams. Second RB's don't last long in the NFL and the trend is that RB's transition easily from college to the NFL unlike QB, CB, and WR and are easily replaced, because of that RB's drop in the draft. Third this is a good deep draft class of RB's, just like WR's, and there will be some good ones that fall to the later rounds. I'd look for a guy like Terrance Magee in the 6th or 7th, a low mileage rotational LSU RB with better speed and moves that Blue has. When there's a plethora of talent in FA and the draft invariably there will be some good RB's to be found in the later rounds.

stack your board. when right fit falls to your slot & is rated highest on the board you take him. This round that round is ridiculous, take the best available RB period if he is the best available prospect. strong class increases possibility sooner than later, simple deduction.

I'm thinking we could help our offense stay on the field with a premier runner in the 1st round. The 16 game schedule takes a toll on running backs and we may have a shot at Gurly or Gordon when we come up. a home run hitter will help in the qb situation also.

Gurly didn't let any medical staff look at his repaired knee at the combine. That's a huge red flag.

Dr. James Andrews said he "didn't want 32 team physicians" poking/prodding/tugging on that knee at this time.

Gurley will have to return for medical re-checks in ~a month.

The likely unspoken explanation is he had a minor setback in his ACL rehab.

On one hand that seems like a suspicious move on Gurley's part. On the other, it's not. It's really just a matter of perspective. He's likely just not in the right place in his rehab to have people messing with it.

Rutgers TE Tyler Kroft was recovering from an ankle injury coming into the combine. The combine staff tugged and twisted on the ankle enough while checking it that they actually reinjured it and now he can't workout.

Hell why not just sign Vareen he is a FA and already knows the system. I agree with you on duke Johnson and Abdullah. Would love both of them but don't know if they will be available as late as when we probably want to pick up a "change of pace" back.

That would be great. Don't know how much $$$ Vereen is looking for. Don't know how much the Texans have to allocate to the position. But, they do need this type of RB.

David Johnson can play in the slot as well as backup AF.

To me he's a 2nd rder. Adds badly needed speed.

Grab Tre McBride in the 3rd to the WR/KR/PR corps and suddenly you added speed to the skill positions.

I don't know how much Vereen would cost but he's a weapon. You could play both Vereen/AF on 3rd downs.

I like David Johnson a lot..

So do I. He's the 2nd running back on my list to Abdullah but David Johnson to me is a good pick if we can get him in the 4th or 5th round. I see a coachable RB that can also pass block and catch.
