Premiers tonight with agent/cap expert Joel Corry where I'm told JB will add another QB to the first round of 2015 draft.

JB is not for everybody, but I enjoy his unique takes based only on his own film study.

This is the guy who had Brett Smith as the #1 QB in the last draft, right?

Agent Joel Corry if he was their agent...

Mallett -- at least what Fitz got, no more than two years more likely a one year deal 3-3.5 million range with incentives up to 5 million to put him as a starter in a position to get a big contract later.

KJ -- starting point of JJo's current contract of $9 million per.

For Texans...

Could free up ~$15 million restructuring Watt. Yes, it's pushing an obligation down the road a bit but J.J. is "the safest player in the NFL" to restructure. Also, he mentioned technically Watt is already underpaid compared to what's happened in the league.

Yep, Smith was his 24th rated player overall, Bridgewater ahead of Bortles.

Also had Zack Martin as his top OL(7th overall) and Taylor Lewan second(8th) with Joel Bitonio(15th), Greg Robinson(19th), Jake Matthews(25th) which were pretty damn spot on. Inexact science, but he doesn't copy off other people's posts.

The QB JB sees promise in this year is Brett Hundley. Making me go back and rewatch all of his 2014 games, now. :smiliepalm:

Didn't Watt just sign this deal? That would have to be the fastest restructure in history.

That's why teams have a ton of scouts and personnel guys that go over these prospects. When one guy goes off the reservation (and Smith was way off the reservation), the rest can throw tomatoes at him.

Yes and they set the deal up to not spread everything into the future. Unless there is some kind of roll the dice for one shot gamble involving Brady or Manning it would be stupid to do it. But it could be done.

Yes, Corry was just spitballing team options as a cap expert. Talked about AJ's contract & options but I missed that part.

The show is focused on the 2015 Draft from a Texans point of view, and so other Texans topics come into play. Scheduled weekly up to and through the draft. Corry was a great guest, interested to hear future lineup and Texans specific draft talk.

I hope they don't do it, but it wouldn't be the first time a deal was redone after a year. JJo leaps to mind (in order to do the Schaub contract no less), but there are a few other out there too I'm pretty sure.

well I hope they do as it would then indicate another super star type player being brought on board and that is why the contract was worded that way. An extremely brilliant decision by cap guru Chris Olsen in his 8th year.

Use it if needed.

Anything other than an elite QB would be madness.

Anything other than an elite QB would be madness.

Okay, I'd be fine with an elite QB I guess.

Oh, and a Unicorn or Bigfoot would be alright too.

But that's it - just those three - Elite QB, Unicorn, Bigfoot.

Make it happen Rick! (Make it happen Brian? OB, Mr. McNair, Cal?)

You guys are crazy.

BTW, JB had Devin House rated over KJ.

For the value of where they were picked he was spot on.

I always said, Brett Smith would be a better QB than JM. Truth is both of their games did't transfer to the NFL. Which is why I'm glad that Smith didn't get on the JM train.

Its certainly looking that way but it's still to soon to say for sure.

Braddock's Early Top 20 QB Rankings
My NFL prospect rankings take only on-field talent into account. I grade these players off what they did in game action. I leave the fluctuation in draft position based on injuries, character issues etc. to the 32 NFL teams that have to make the selection.

http://www.sports790.com/onair/the-...ly-top-20-qb-rankings-13211643/#ixzz3QdSeebpJ

Some surprises in there, as usual.

One thing JB does is he watches year-to-year games as well as current year to gauge improvement/stagnation.

There's usually a lot of Braddock's stuff that I don't agree with, but at least he does his own research to form an opinion rather than parroting what others say and do. I respect him for that, even when he's completely off the wall at times. lol

NFL Combine is next week, here is my Top 5 Pass Rushers:

1) Bud Dupree
2) Vic Beasley
3) Shane Ray
4) Dante Fowler
5) Randy Gregory
Dupree is a 43 RDE or 34 OLB
Beasley 34 ROLB
Ray 43 SOLB
Fowler 34 ROLB
Gregory 34 ROLB

Gregory 3 year ROI similar to Mingo/Dion
Comparables (not equals)

Bud Dupree = Justin Houston
Vic Beasley = Robert Mathis
Shane Ray = Bruce Irvin
Dante Fowler = Melvin Ingram

I was watching some game film on YouTube of Dupree and Ray a few days ago and frankly neither really impressed me. Dupree is slow off the snap and although Ray was better, he didn't scream 1st round pick to me either.

I'm totally with you here. Dupree bored me to death on film. Ray was so so. Had one game where he played up to his rep. Wolf watch Owa Odighizuwa and Danielle Hunter and tell me what you think. Hunter is strong at the point of contact. Sets the edge really good. Owa has the fastest gett off I've seen out of all the edge guys in this draft. Looks like he is shot out of a cannon.

If you really look at Dupree's film you can't help but be impressed at how well he covers his responsibilities. Kentucky asks him to do so much and he covers so many weaknesses on their defense. He is incredibly versatile.

I think people are watching his film looking for a bunch of flashy highlight plays, but they don't let him play like that very often.

His film kind of reminds me of JJ Watt's in that way. I fell in love with Watt when he was a prospect because of his film. Everybody else thought it was just kind of meh. Because Wisconsin most often used him as a two gap 5 tech there weren't many opportunities for him to make flashy plays. But if you watched him instead of the ball you would see him just murdering guys. Perfect fit as a 5 tech.

I feel similar about Dupree in the Brooks Reed SOLB role. He is a versatile swiss army knife. He can rush, he can set the edge, he can take on blocks, and he can run in a coverage a little bit.

Don't compare Dupree to guys like Clowney, Gregory, or Fowler. They play different positions. His job would not be to act as a pure pass rusher like those guys.

I like the Justin Houston comparison but he doesn't have the elite pass rushing repertoire that Houston does. I think he is more like Jamie Collins, who is an absolute stud for New England. He's also similar to Marcus Smith who went #26 to Philadelphia last year.

Graded Smith mid 2nd to early 3rd last year. Eagles took a swing with his potential & moving him to a new role lucky they were bailed out somewhat with Matthews still on board in 2nd. I don't see Texans taking same risk this high in 1st with Dupree, if there in 2nd ok. Texans need a plug n play nose tackle or OT first round so Dupree probably shouldn't even be in the discussion.

Which do you like better and think has more potential to be more of an impact player. I know they will be used in different ways, Dupree/Hunter? I really like the potential for both and think they are going to light up the combine. Also tell me your thoughts on Fowler, am I the only one who likes Dupree/Hunter just as much as Fowler?

Perfect comparison bah that's who he reminds me of as well.

There are people out there who absolutely love Hunter. I'm not one of them although I do like him. He's all potential at this point. People see his athleticism and length and think what he could be, not what he is. Production wise in college, he was not on the same level as Fowler/Dupree.

Fowler
137 Tackles
34 TFL
14.5 Sacks

Dupree
247 Tackles
38 TFL
23.5 Sacks

Hunter
133 Tackles
21 TFL
4.5 Sacks

I think Fowler and Dupree are instant difference makers. I think Hunter is a project with a very high ceiling and a chance to eventually be a difference maker.

I think they will both be impact players but in different ways. For the Texans I like Dupree better because we already have Mercilus and Clowney in the role that Hunter would play.

Hunter will be a better pure pass rusher but Dupree will give you more versatility. Hunter will likely have more sacks but that's not always an indication of who is more valuable.

I prefer Dupree because I like versatility on defense. It allows me to change my scheme depending on what my opponent wants to do. If Hunter was an elite pass rusher he would be the answer because you just can't pass on that, but he isn't quite elite in that category.

I like Fowler. He is a versatile, explosive athlete. He is not great against the run and sometimes he relies on his athleticism a little too much. I also wish he had more length. But he is still a good player. I like Dupree more, though Fowler will likely be a better pass rusher. Both are better than Hunter right now. Hunter does have traits that suggest he has the potential to be the best of the three. But it will take time and coaching.

Gotta say I was shocked at how often Dupree was dropping into coverage. And doing it pretty well. Think his size better suits RAC, too. Be interesting to see how his draft stock moves.

first few minutes speaking with college QB Cody Fajardo (Nevada) mostly about Colin Capernick comparison with Mariota. Fajardo has excellent ball placement.

8:30 choices

QB: (cap doesn't matter) Mallett & Hundley #16, if they fail, Savage could play. McGowen has only one good season..don't go with him; played in poor div:ision.

CB: KJ solid but not lock down. Tremon Williams (32)? Culliver tall plays well but runs mouth and not Texans worthy. Parrish Cox rape case in college. Skrine returns. Davon House and KJ his choices.

TE: Charles Clay interesting FA..back from break..

"picturing Rick Smith skipping rocks and singing Dock of the Bay" now that's funny right there.

OT: Newton Braddock see as OG. Chris Hairston (Buffalo)?. **Brian Bulauga (my guy). Mentioned cutting Myers but not more than a mention & moving Jones to center with X at LG. Stated brings back Myers. Cody White same level as Brooks/Jones (hmm).

WR: caller asks about Randall Cobb (slot) but depth in draft too enticing. Cobb leads all slots NFL so not wasted effort..so Braddock says considers along with Torry Smith. **Jerrel Jernigan(spelling) his choice
5'8"189 25 YOA 6/40 no TDs

last segment:

Ross producer : OLB McPhee Braddock agrees but prefers (if Buluaga not signed) Jason Worilds

ILB: Sean Witherspoon per Braddock. Maybe Dallas Bruce Carter despite injuries if price right.

FS: thought Manning played well (whoops lost my respect). Ross says Devin McCourty if NE allows walk. Braddock Marcus Gilchrist (better angles than Lewis but more $)

Think I got most of it right but hopefully others will correct.

Chris Hairston (Buffalo)?
Hairston will be a restricted free agent, if tendered by the Bills.

Braddock seemed like he was ready to spend some $$$ in free agency. Bulaga, Witherspoon, Torrey Smith. And re-sign Jackson. Not sure where this money is coming from. Combine that with some real off the wall suggestions. Kinda out there.

He was using his producer to act as a money-no-object GM, then he'd make a cap-conscious choice. A bit haphazard, but some good takes & ideas.

I did not get that as Braddock repeatedly said if cap was not an issue. Also, stated if Green Bay's Bulauga came that would tie up most money. I think Fitz (cut) and Graham (reworked) could be Mallett's first year. Lose Joseph (cut or trade) signs KJ and Watt's bonus first year saves about $ 8 m for Bulauga.

I like what I see in Hunter, long, athletic, quick, good strength, can dip his shoulder, sometimes quick at the snap and other times not, etc... I get what Bah007 is saying about Dupree, but that's the difference between a SOLB and a WOLB. The SOLB does alot of things that don't always make the stat column or highlight reels, but they're just as important. Reed does all those very important things for us now that don't make the highlight reels. Reed is good in coverage of the RB's, sets the edge very well against the run, and can help out with TE or zone coverage well occaisionally. My asessment of Dupree and Ray was from a WOLB prospective as a replacement for Clowney because I don't think he's back next season and we need someone to rotate with Mercilus. Looking at Dupree as a SOLB, I think he'd be good at that but not on the weak side. As for Odighizuwa, I see him as a WOLB and really like his size, but I haven't seen alot of him.

I'm just going to put this here as it's the only one he'll do...

INSIDE ‘THE FRONT OFFICE’ PRE-FREE AGENCY 2015 NFL MOCK DRAFT (1-16)
The NFL draft is less than two months away. I spend most of my days from mid-January to late April watching as many NFL draft prospects as possible. I find myself racing the sand that quickly funnels down the hourglass as months turn to weeks, weeks to days and finally days to hours. Before you know it, it’s live from New York City Chicago for the 2015 NFL Draft.

From May to mid-January, I’m consumed with gathering every minor detail on all 32 NFL teams. I attempt to marry my knowledge of the NFL with my passion of evaluating NFL hopefuls each year in an attempt to give my listeners / readers a unique glimpse behind the curtain. It’s the primary reason that KBME, SportsTalk 790 in Houston, TX gave me an NFL Draft / Texans show on their airwaves at this time of year.

In “The Front Office” I have internal dialog as if I’m the General Manager of all 32 teams. I share my thoughts on the discussions that I believe are ongoing behind closed doors that the fans and most media never get to hear. In this mock draft I don’t try and guess what each NFL team will pick. I make the decision based off their current personnel, offensive and defensive schemes and talent available based solely off my evaluation of each prospect.

WARNING: This mock draft isn’t going to be a “consensus” of what you may hear on radio, TV or around the water cooler. It’s solely based on my personal evaluation of each prospect and view on what would be in the best interest of the team long-term. I’ll also include some of my “front office” discussion on other players that were considered and why I passed.

1) Tampa Bay (FRONT OFFICE DISCUSSION) QB – Jameis Winston (FSU), DE/DT – Leonard Williams (USC), and OT – DJ Humphries were all heavily discussed. Leonard Williams was our top rated player in the draft. We felt like he could provide us a “2 for 1″ by not only producing early and at a high level but also by the combination of him and our All-Pro DT Gerald McCoy elevating the game of our 2014 prize free agent DE, Michael Johnson.

DJ Humphries hasn’t received a lot of notoriety in the media but we felt like he was a franchise LT cut in the mold of Tyron Smith. His struggles mirrored that of Tyron while at USC. We would have loved to place DJ at LT for the next 10-15 years but who would he be protecting.

No matter where we went in our discussions, it always brought us back to the most important position in the game, QB. Jameis is by far the most talented QB in this class and we view him as not only a franchise QB but one that has the DNA to win Super Bowls. Bucs select QB, FSU, Jameis Winston

2) Tennessee (FRONT OFFICE DISCUSSION)...
