Wolf6151 2015 mock #3

Wolf6151

All Pro
I make the assumption here that Mallett is our QB in 2015.

1. Trae Waynes-CB, KJ is a FA that's not worth the money someone will probably give him and JJo only has 1 more year under contract, we've got to prepare for the future. Also CB is to expensive to keep filling in FA so we draft a guy that we can control for 5 yrs. on a rookie contract.

2. Cameron Erving-OT/C, very versatile and athletic O-lineman who might take Newtons or Myers spot.

3. Rashad Greene-WR, our new slot WR if we decide that DJ isn't the future of the spot. There's actually several guys I like here, but Greene gets the nod.

4. Durrell Eskridge-FS, coverage FS with great height/length with long arms and good speed. Not a head hunter but the NFL is cracking down on that stuff anyway.

5. Jake Ryan-OLB/ILB, good size and decent speed, smart player, I think this guy could play 3 out of 4 of the LB spots, just not enough speed for WOLB.

6. Tyrus Thompson-OT, O-line depth that might take a little luck as he might go in the 5th. Great size and good feet for the NFL but needs some work. Good coaching could turn this guy into a long time quality starter.

7. Terrance Magee-RB, low mileage rotational RB with better quickness than Blue.

If they're unwilling to pay for KJ then I think you have to maneuver to get one of the top CBs.

1. Waynes- Good pick, but I would've gone offense in the 1st or NT.

2- Erving- very versatile so I can see why you would pick him. Probably wont be there in the 2nd for the Texans. My pick- Jake Fisher

3- Greene- Love this pick, hope he's there.

4. Eskridge- Haven't seen him play, but from what I've read this is a good pick

5. Ryan- Will contribute on ST's if he doesn't start. Good pick

6. Thompson- Talented swing developmental OT, huge, needs to develop lower half of his body.

7. McGee- Will make team, better option and more versatile than Blue. Good pick.

As you know Waynes was my #1 way back when I started mocking for 2015 & I still like him. As it appears Parker and Shelton may be gone (hoping Doppelganger is right), Trae Waynes probably my next option. Over all grade for your mock? A+ only thing I'd do different is go with a corner in 6th as I think Newton will be back and Smith will sign a FA to replace Clabo.

2. Jake Fisher was my second choice if Erving isn't there, but Erving is more versatile having played 2 different positions very well.
3. There are several good slot WR's if Greene isn't available. Hardy, Lockett, Crowder.
4. Eskridge, he'll never be confused with Pollard, he's a cover guy with good speed, length, and range, he's not a hitman.
6. Thompsons lower half is developed, he just needs to bend his knees more and develope a mean streak. A little NFL coaching and he could be an O-line stud, could probably play 4 of the 5 O-line positions.

That's a possibility but I was using CBS rankings and he's currently #19 overall.

No, what I meant was basically just make it happen with one of the 1st 2 picks and if that meant maneuvering to have value with the pick then so be it. Wasn't criticizing the particular pick you made.

I can certainly understand this notion but Hal, Bouye, Morris, and Rolle provided some good depth, I just wanted to create some high quality depth on the O-line in case of injury as well as upgrade our starters. We need good depth, injuries happen. Thanks for the comments.

Makes a lot of sense and as realistic a mock as I've seen. As badboy stated, the Texans should get additional 3rd day comp picks. I'd like to see a move TE the Texans can split out.

Agreed, very realistic.

This draft adds speed, They need to add speed to stretch the defense at TE. Guys that I like in rds 5-7 Bell/Sifrin/Derby. Bell/Derby are former QB's that run 4.6/4.7 and know how to get open.

Just a comment on Fisher, I cannot find a sack he gave up in last two seasons. Mariota had two in championship but cannot remember if lineman gave it up or on QB. Pretty sure not Fisher and for an LT that is pretty solid. If we don't sign a decent FA RT and I think we will, I could see drafting Fisher. Like Matthews it would not hurt to play him at RT a season or two but should then be able to play on the blind.

There is a thread for this TK and IIRC a link had one guy from Walterfootball.com saying we should get a 5th and three sixes.

Maybe I overstepped..... but I'd like for you mockers to mock those extra picks.

If it's not too much trouble.

already have it in mind but will start after the guys leave my men's Bible group tonight. I love to mock but you probably knew that.

edit: also FYI, I researched trading our own 4, 5 and 6 to Rams (only have 5 picks) but not worth it. Rather have the extra guys than a slightly elevated 4th.

Trading a 4-5-6 should get you a high 3rd.

I'm with you on the OL depth need.

and that was what I was looking for; however on trade value our #113 (4th)= 68 pts, our #144 (5th) = 34 and our #179 (6th)= 19.8 Total of 121.8 or pick #95 in third or second from bottom. Someone correct me if I am wrong cause I sure want to bel

Thanks for the info.

Do they still use Jimmy Johnson's old draft chart?

I think it's a baseline. But, the Texans were able to move into the mid 3rd round (#83, 175pts) with the first picks in the 4th (#101, 96pts) and the 5th (#141, 35pts). That's 131 points, which is close to 121 that badboy projects. I guess it's possible, if that team with the mid 3rd really wants out of the pick.

Good job, like your pick positions and reasoning.

1.) The guy I would target first in the first if I were looking secondary is PJ Williams. I like him more than Waynes. Just think there is more upside. I like that both have played safety and could start there. Either would be a good pick IMO.

2.) Can't go wrong with good versatile OL.

3.) I'm with you here big time. I thinking the 3rd round is a good place to find our Wes Welker. Love Greene, Lockett, Lippet, Crowder and Hardy. I'm hoping for a starting slot WR hopefully with return abilities out of this draft. If I go this early he will have to have return abilities. Not worried about speed as much as a guy with really good hands that has the ability to get open quickly.

I'm not familiar with Lucky's suggestions but I'm going to check them out.

4.) Not familiar with this guy I'll have to check him out. Not real big on late round safeties though. I'd prefer a guy with CB experience and abilities who could blossom into a CB later. Just one of my things.

5.) Jake Ryan is near the top of my list of guys to checkout. Haven't watched any tape of him yet.

6.) I'm a big "trenches" guy but not sure I want to spend two picks on the OL unless we get three or four comp picks.

7.) Don't know T Magee.

I have to admit that I'm not that familiar with these prospects, either. Seeing that steelbtexan was somehow able to edit my post.

1. I like PJ as well, but really like Waynes short distance quickness/reaction speed, not to mention Waynes size/length. I think he could start in the slot right away and then move to the outside in 2016.

4. I don't think I've ever seen a Safety that moved to CB, usually the other way around. I don't think Eskridge is your traditional Safety, being more of a coverage guy than a hitman. A 6'03" guy with good speed that can cover some distance, though not real physical.

5. Ryan reminds me of Brooks Reed. Great size and good speed for the SOLB position where he could set the edge well and handle coverage of RB's. I think he'd also be very good inside stuffing the run, inside blitzes, handling TE coverage or dropping in zone. He's a good heads up smart guy that recognizes and reacts well, he's just not going to wow you with his speed or hitting ability though he's a good tackler.

6. I think we need the depth on the O-line. We've got decent/good starters but little depth and we got lucky with the lack of injuries last season. Thompson needs some work but his flaws are coachable and he's already got NFL size and good footwork/athleticism for such a big man. Also we could lose 2 O-line starters this season, Myers could be a cap casualty and Newton is a FA.

7. Magee has better speed and quickness than Blue. He falls down here simply because he's a rotational guy at LSU so he's never racked up the huge stats. Also this is a good RB draft so some of the guys are going to fall later than they should, and RB's just aren't as valuable as they used to be.

He was also on the school's track & field team, where he excelled in the 100-meters.[4] In 2010, he won the county indoor track championship in the 60-yard and 220-yard dashes. He recorded the fastest 40-yard dash (4.37 s) at the 2010 Midwest Ultimate 100 Camp. He finished third in the 100m (10.85 s) at the 2011 Division I State T&F Championships.[5] He recorded a career-best time of 10.75 seconds in the 100 meters at the 2011 SEC Outdoor Conference Meet, placing first.[6]

THIS CB is pretty impressive - at first glance looks to be a tall, long, wiry DB with excellent speed in the mold of Richard Sherman. Def seems the best corner in this Draft.

I would really like to have Erving on the Texans. That guy's going to be a great pro: great work ethic, ability, versatility, and leadership qualities. He's also got some nastiness about him having moved from defensive tackle.

Don't think Greene will be there in 3rd. He's got too much speed and production. His lack of bulk may keep him from being a first rounder, but I don't see him getting past the second round. I would love to see it though.

I wish I knew more about Trae Waynes. I like Eskridge but didn't he have a severe injury at end of year?

4. I don't think I've ever seen a Safety that moved to CB, usually the other way around.
You're right, usually the other way. There have been a few college safeties moved to CB. Jason Sehorn was a FS before being drafted by the Giants. I think Asomugha was a safety at Cal and was moved to CB by the Raiders.

I guess I didn't word that right. I don't like taking safeties late. I would rather draft a CB that could play safety but switch back to CB later if needed. For the exact reason you stated it seems like a wasted pick to draft a safety late. I would never draft a guy with safety potential. He either a starting caliber safety right from the start or a CB with safety skills that can playboys positions.
