San Antonio Raiders?

The Colts belong in Dallas, Cardinals belong in Chicago and the Bears belong in Decatur.

And the Oilers belong in Houston. One day I shall be a multi billionaire and I will buy the Texans from Bob. I will pay whatever I have to pay to the Adams family and get the Oilers name rights back. I will rename the Texans to the HOUSTON OILERS. The football Gods will be pleased and the city of Houston shall bask in championship glory.

Pancakes mentioned on a radio show awhile back that Bud Adams stipulated in his will that the name "Houston Oilers" would remain retired forever.

Just another way for Bud to flip the finger at us old Oilers fans from his grave. He gets the last laugh....at least until the Texans bring home a Super Bowl trophy.

I don't understand this. When Ottawa was granted a CFL franchise a few years back, there was a newspaper article saying the previous owner wouldn't be able to prevent the team from being called "Rough Riders" since he hadn't used the name after the team folded. He wouldn't get any compensation after a set time either. Use it or lose it. The reason they didn't use the name "Rough Riders" is because Saskatchewan voted against it.

So has Bud Adams ever used "Oilers" since switching to "Titans"? Shouldn't there be an expiration date if he didn't use it? :hmmm:

There is abandonment in the US but odds are the Adams' are doing just enough to prevent the claim by licensing for the manufacture of Oilers memorabilia.

Throw in the fact that if the Titan owners are against it (for whatever reason), McNair probably would never force the issue even if he legally could, and the NFL would probably never approve it even if McNair forced it, and it's likely to never happen.

Personally I don't like the idea one bit anyway, but maybe that's just me.

yeah that ship has sailed. I have no interest in seeing Houston Oilers again... Hopefully we won't see "Biggest collapse in History" again

I think Bud Adams being the sole owner of the Houston Oilers for the franchise's entire existence played a big part in it. The Browns were an older franchise with more than a single owner, so I have a feeling that this played a big part in the NFL forcing Art Modell to give up the license (that and Cleveland fans really raising a stink about it, where Oilers fans were fairly apathetic about it when it went down).

Then you have trademark laws that would be hard to circumvent.

Plus, like 'cak said, the Titans still have on-going merchandise and throwback days to the Oilers logo and merch (for instance, they were selling Luv Ya Blue stuff on the Titans website a couple of years ago).

And like ChampionTexan mentioned, I doubt McNair would want any part of it since he has spent a lot of money with his own brand.
