2014 College Football Season

Dumb ass move right there. Up until then, you couldn't say they were losing "because" of Winston.

Look at Winston ****ing up and then yelling at his coach on the sidelines. Yeh he's worth a high draft pick. Lol.

I finally feel like I’m in the loop. But I’d just warn all of you FSU critics to remember: Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Tommy Dobbs ‏@Tommy_Dobbs
Even FSU police couldn't cover up a massacre this big

PDS ‏@PatDStat
Who is the GM of FSU? He needs to be fired.

ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL -- #1 Alabama Crimson Tide (12-1) vs. #4 Ohio State Buckeyes (12-1)

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE

TOP PROSPECTS:
TJ Yeldon – Running Back – Junior – 6’2” – 221

With the benefit of hindsight, Yeldon is probably the most NFL ready RB to come through the Bama program under Nick Saban. He probably has the best base of any ball carrier in the country, which reminds me a lot of former excellent collegiate RBs Darren McFadden and DeMarco Murray. TJ has shown continued development in all aspects of the game, but the one area he’s always going to need to work at is holding onto the football (which I believe is more than correctable). If you’re looking for a player who’s comfortable being that “One Cut” RB, draft TJ. I expect he’ll go somewhere in Round 2 or early in Round 3 of the 2015 Draft; he’ll be a Top 5 back for me in this class – which is really saying something considering the depth.

Amari Cooper – Wide Receiver – Junior – 6’1” – 210

No player has played as unstoppable against such a high level of competition this season as #9. He’s the most NFL ready WR in this class and I don’t think it’s close. Cooper wins at the line of scrimmage, he wins at the apex of the route, and he wins at the catch point. He’s not the biggest or the fastest, but he creates space so well that it often times doesn’t matter. I’m not sure he isn’t more ready-made for the NFL than Jordan Matthews, Jarvis Landry, and Odell Beckham were a year ago coming from the SEC. I’d draft Amari in the Top 5 if I was looking for a potential #1 WR.

Landon Collins – Safety – Junior – 6’0” – 222

For my money, Collins is the best Safety prospect since Earl Thomas. In a time where Safety play is at a premium, players at the position tend to get overvalued based on home important they are, which leads to teams reaching on them. I don’t think Collins falls into that trap in the slightest. If your favorite teams needs that field general in the back of the defense, take Landon in the Top 10 and don’t over think it. He’s shown ability to play “Free” or come up and play that slot corner position. There’s also no one in college football who closes large areas and makes sure tackles like him. He’s a force on the field and every offensive player has to take note. I expect his name to be called early in 2015 and I expect he’ll be an exceptional player for a long time.

Jarran Reed – Defensive Line – Junior – 6’4” – 315

If he declares, Reed could end up as my favorite Interior Defensive Lineman in this class. He’s been an absolute monster for the Tide this season in the pass and run game. Jarran is pretty much a fortress that opposing RBs just collide into fruitlessly. I think his best fit might be as a 34 5-Tech, but he definitely has that 3-Tech motor about him. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him rise and end up as a Top 32 pick if he declares, I like his game that much.

UNDER THE RADAR PROSPECTS:
Jalston Fowler – Fullback – Senior – 6’1” – 248

Swiss army knife type of player. Will stick on an NFL roster for multiple seasons, being a mix of running back, fullback, and H-Back. One of my favorite players in the upcoming class.

Arie Kouandjio – Offensive Guard – Senior – 6’5” – 315

Day 3 Guard prospect who has size and the ability to contribute positively in a run-based offense.

DeAndrew White – Wide Receiver – Senior – 6’0” – 192

Would’ve been in the NFL already if not for a gruesome knee injury a few seasons ago. A good 3rd or 4th option at the next level.

Leon Brown – Offensive Line – Senior – 6’6” – 320

Camp body who can play Tackle or Guard.

Christion Jones – Wide Receiver – Senior – 5’11” – 187

Will contribute in the return game and as a 3rd or 4th WR.

Austin Shepherd – Offensive Tackle – Senior – 6’5” – 320

Day 3 player who could be a serviceable Right Tackle.

Brian Vogler – Tight End – Senior – 6’7” – 263

2nd or 3rd option at TE for teams who like to use multiple sets. Probably a UDFA camp invite.

Nick Perry – Safety – Senior – 6’1” – 211

He saved his best season for his last; probably good enough to make some noise in the preseason.

Trey DePriest – Linebacker – Senior – 6’2” – 250

Never developed into that next great LB from Alabama, but will definitely be a Day 3 pick who has the ability to be an average to solid Mike in a 34.

Brandon Ivory – Defensive Tackle – Senior – 6’4” – 308

Rotational IDL player who will make his living against the run.

Xzavier Dickson – Edge Rusher – Senior – 6’3” – 268

Probably a Day 3 pick, but could develop into a better player than Courtney Upshaw has. Will be a good “value” pick.

Blake Sims – Quarterback – Senior – 6’0” – 208

Probably goes undrafted and rightfully so, but has done enough to be considered as a 3rd option for some team if he competes well in preseason.

OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY BUCKEYES

TOP PROSPECTS:
Noah Spence – Defensive End – Junior* – 6’3” – 252

Unfortunately for Spence and for us as fans, he won’t be playing in the Sugar Bowl, having left the team for likely a myriad of reasons. However, it was necessary to highlight him because he has 1st Round talent. I hope he ends up being this class’ Aaron Lynch – fall down the draft for legitimate reason but wind up excelling once getting to the league. Noah is the ideal 43 DE in this group of really exciting edge players, so for all of our sake, I’m rooting for him.

Michael Bennett – Defensive Tackle – Senior – 6’2” – 288

A few month ago Michael Bennett looked like a mid-round prospect with a bunch of over-hype. That’s not the case anymore. Over the last two months Bennett has cranked it up to 11, excelling and producing in every game and really becoming the leader of the Buckeye defense. He’s going to be a successful IDL in the NFL, and I expect his name to be called – at worst- in the Top 40.

Adolphus Washington – Defensive Tackle – Senior – 6’4” – 295

On most defenses Adolphus would be the best player and top prospect. Without knowing if he declares or not, I do know that a few teams would give him a Round 1 look, based on his talent and production. He has great size to win against bigger NFL guards, and I’m not so sure he couldn’t play some 5-Tech if drafted to a team that runs multiple looks.

Jeff Heuerman – Tight End – Senior – 6’5” – 255

In a class that’s very polarizing at the TE position, Heuerman should be drafted by Round 4. He does a lot of things well for his size, I believe has be block at the next level when asked to, and he can definitely be a threat in the passing game. I’d say that he’s a more athletic Coby Fleener – and I like Coby Fleener, so that’s a compliment. The league wants his type of game, so I think he’ll be appealing to a team wanting to mimic Gronk, Kelce, and Jordan Cameron’s success.

UNDER THE RADAR PROSPECTS:
Devin Smith – Wide Receiver – Senior – 6’1” – 199

Runs the “9 Route” extremely well. Day 3 pick for me with a chance to be dynamic if matched with the proper QB.

Doran Grant – Cornerback – Senior – 5’11” – 193

Day 3 value for me, at the moment. Has ball skills and shows a willingness to make plays.

Steve Miller – Defensive End – Senior – 6’3” – 255

Rotational DE player in a 43 or potentially a WLB if he tests well at the Combine.

Curtis Grant – Linebacker – Senior – 6’3” – 238

UDFA camp invite, but someone who’ll battle to be in a LB rotation.

how is it that colleges can dress out 60-70 players (more?) and NFL teams can only "afford" to dress 43?
:mcnugget:

Can't wait until next season to see urban Meyer & Jim Harbaugh duke it out from sidelines. Epic hot head, control freaks!

Well, I can't say I'm sorry to see the SEC get it handed to them this bowl season

Brett Hundley's passer rating has to be 150+ at this point...

and Kansas State is holding up their end of the Big 12's bowl performances so far. :kitten:

Just cuz they've been on top so long. A little humbling is good for everyone.

If they still played by the BCS system, this year's title game probably would have been Alabama blowing out Florida State, and the SEC would still be considered an unstoppable juggernaut.

I'm glad they finally implemented a playoff system. It brings a little more reality to the championship.

A little more but not much. I think TCU could have hung with anybody. Of course we'll never know because the powers that be went for the money and moved OSU in at the last vote.

Ohio State proved they belonged last night. They were one of the hottest teams in the country at the end of the year when the selections were made. Florida State was the pretender in the group.

I thought all along FSU didn't belong, but they did have an undefeated record against all those "powerhouses" they played

And TCU wasn't? Plus they were ranked ahead of OSU the whole time until the final vote.

This 4 team playoff is a LOT better than what they've ever had but it still relies too much on voters. They'll never get this right until they go to a 16 team tourney.

And before anybody goes to the "that's too many games" card, North Dakota St. is about to play their 16th game of the year for the FCS Championship, and Sam Houston St. would have played a 17th had they made it to that game. Too many games maybe, but they do it, Division 2 does it, D3 does it, everybody in college football does it except the big boys.

And with the money that could be generated with a 16 team tourney, instead of these crappy, meaningless bowl games, it's a miracle they haven't done it already.

Don't look at the committee to blame. OSU won their conference championship 59-0 just before the final vote. TCU's own conference wouldn't name them champs over Baylor - big mistake. That is sufficient reason to switch them.

I thought this debate was marginal before the Sugar Bowl; after OSU knocked off #1 Alabama in the semi-final it seems even sillier to question if they deserved to be in the final four. I guess it is a regional thing.

I'm not saying OSU doesn't deserve to be there. I'm saying TCU doesn't deserve NOT to be there. And it's not TCU's fault that the Big 12 commish can't declare a champ, or that they don't have a title game. 5 teams had 1 loss and 2 don't get a shot because they didn't get a vote. That's not a whole lot better than the way it's been for a thousand years - voters deciding instead of putting it on the field for the teams to decide.

And TCU did just crush a top 10 SEC team in their bowl game. So take that FWIW.

As an evaluator I hate it as well. It stunts your QB's mental growth. But as a coach it's a pretty fantastic idea. Why should you put decisions in the hands of a 22 year old when they can be made by an adult who's been coaching football for longer than that kid has been alive?

One thing I found interesting this season as opposed to last that A&M moved away from this complete coach-controlled adjustment. Kyle Allen called the audibles at the line of scrimmage. I don't know if that was because in previous years it was Manziel bailing out on busted plays and not needing to audible or because Jake Spavital calls a more complicated game than the previous OCs we had, or because Kyle Allen is just a smarter QB, but it was certainly different.

The other side of that is that A&M moved away from the hurry up and while still being somewhat up-tempo was no longer the same no-huddle team that Manziel quarterbacked and Kliff Kingsbury coached.

Absolutely blows my mind how consistently overrated prospects from Alabama are. It really is a joke. Great college program and Saban gets exactly what he wants out of all of those kids. I think he runs a great program. But these "scouts" look too hard at the college success and don't evaluate and project fit at the next level.

Yeah, that was an easy copy/paste -- but from DraftTwitter. :truck:
