NFL.COM Projected
Heres a link that Texian shared in a different thread but has updated draft order:
http://www.gbnreport.com/weeklydraftorder.html
We will be between 16 and 18 depending on tie-breakers with other 9-7 teams. 16 teams will finish with a worse record, but one will be the NFC South champion and be placed in the bottom 12 of the draft order.
Other 9-7 teams:
Sand Diego
Buffalo
Kansas City
Two 10-6 teams will be seeded 19 and 20.
No other team can win as many as 9 games or lose as few as 7 games making the late games irrelevant except in tie-breakers where required.

Here's the full draft order, updated for the early games. We'll update it again after the late games have been played. Picks 21 through 32 are projected by playoff seed, as they'll be determined by playoff results.

Not my words, quoted from the link. From a Houston perspective you don't have to update it. Picking #16 should be a lock now.
Above my pay grade. We'll know in a bit.Did we not have an easier schedule than all the other 9-7 teams and we beat Cleveland and that puts them ahead of us. I think #19 is more likely but ok if wrong.
So what would it take to trade up to 1.1 and take Mariota?
And would anybody here like to see us do that?

Thw Texans have the worst SOS among the 9-7 teams. They will draft at #16 in the 1st round.
Here's the full draft order, with only the Bengals vs. Steelers game yet to play -- but that game won't affect the draft order, beyond its effects on the playoff seeds. Picks 21 through 32 are projected by playoff seed, as they'll be determined by playoff results.
Pick Team Record Strength of Schedule
16 HOU 9 - 7 113 - 140 - 1 0.4469
#16 is not a bad spot. My guess is they go WR or DE with the pick. As far as the WR's go I know Cooper will be gone, but Parker, White, or Strong should be there.

It's interesting that we had the easiest schedule of all the 9-7 teams, Including Buffalo & Cleveland.
Why is that interesting? We played Jville & Tennessee four times.. They went a combined 5-27 this year & have the #2 and #3 picks in the draft. Cleveland plays in the AFC North. Three teams made the playoffs in their division. Buffalo had Miami & New England go over .500 and the one bad team went 4-12 (1 win fewer than JAX & TEN).

Don't want Mariota. He's tall and fast, cool. Beyond that, he's raw as eff as an NFL prospect. learning how to read a defense and go through progressions...heck even taking snaps under center. no thanks. we're in no position to wait around on a kid like that, let alone giving up the farm for that gamble. give me Winston instead if we have to go QB in the 1st. he may like to slip his snake in to unsuspecting women, but at least i'd have more faith in him to know what he's doing on the field.
That is why they passed on Bortles. He is looking pretty toolsie, durable & would have been starting for the Texans week Eleven not Mallet (maybe sooner) & would probably have more success behind a better offensive line & RB/WR corps. Yeah we wouldn't want to bring along a raw franchise QB.
Get someone who is smart and has a relentless motor. That's it. I don't care what position.

Bortles was never as raw as Mariota.
Mariota's job was to essentially throw to the designed wide open man or take off and run. rarely asked to make throws against tight coverage, or asked to go through progressions. and when he can't use his feet, he's effed (look at the two Standford games prior to this past season). He really wasn' that much more important to that offense than Darron Thomas...but hey, he has the prototypical NFL size/arm/and can run...and he's a good kid. must be Kaepernick 2.0
let's trade the farm for him cause all these new breed of athletic QBs taken early in the draft are killing it right now.
makes no sense to trade the farm when we sat in catbirds seat just last year.
Lol yards...I forgot you're the draft guru of the board. Forgive me, sir.

A QB that doesn't climb a pocket with his first instinct is not a QB I want on my team. This is just me though, not trying to stir up any controversy.
Since Rick Smith wasn't fired on Monday it looks like we are gonna have another terrible draft. The QB position will be taken care of with Ryan Mallett given a fat contract, so let's focus on the pieces we will put around him...
Which direction should we go with the #16 pick? OT, WR, or CB? Or other? Why?
Great question, let's take QB out of the discussion because that subject probably has many dedicated threads. I'm going to be honest this is a tough one for me. Of course it depends who we lose in free agency but say as team stands now with no changes, hmmm. I hate to use a 1st round on
RB's,WR, and CB's. I just don't think those positions change the game enough or for RB just a short nfl life span. I'm more of a build the trenches fan. As for starters I don't think the front lines are very week except for DT. But we got that injured rookie that might step up next year. I'm leaning towards TE and MLB. Cushing is off the field to much now, it way be time to groom his replacement. A great blocking AND route running catching TE would be a great bonus for this offense also. That's my two choices,
You'll make Texans Talk GM soon enough, I believe in you.
We really need to consider RT, ILB, CB, and FS early.
Also want to hit interior OL, WR, and DE for depth.

We need to behave as if we never had 2014 1-1, so rush OLB is back on the list.
