That's pocket money for McNair.
If Keenum beats Jags, does he get a contract and a look next year? IMO, all four should have a fair shot.
I wouldn't mind this at all. Doubt if Savage would go on the practice squad though since that is OB's guy. He probably doesn't want to risk anybody picking him up.Case might not have been a world beater today, but it was
clear that he got the ball out quicker and was more decisive.
IMO, Fitz wouldn't have done much better against the Ravens D.
If I were calling the shots, I would sign Mallett, cut Fitz, and
take Case into camp next year.
If you sign a QB in the mid first round, he won't be an NFL starter
for at least a year.
My QB's going into next year would be
1) Mallet starter
2) Keenum backup (cheaper than Fitz, probably just as good also..)
3) New guy
PS) Savage.
BoB should have learned this year that having backups with no
starting experience is a bad idea.. (which is why Case was brought back)
This performance by Keanum has to be one of if not the best of the season by Houstons quarterbacks . It helps that OB called a little more creative game plan as well . Good job but should of come sooner .![]()
I would have to put the 6 TD game by Fitz as the best of the season....
I agree with you, but I don't know what OB will do. If Keenum wins again next week, then I can see OB wanting him back instead of Fitz. But who knows.Savage has been in the system for most of the year and
fumbled his first handoff. I'm not sure he would be a hot commodity
If he was PS'd.

I'm not too excited about bringing Fitzpatrick back. Today, Case did a pretty good Fitzpatrick impersonation. Nothing fancy, not putting the team on his back, doing enough to move the ball, not doing anything stupid.
I just don't see much of a future with Fitz or Case. If we sign him & he continues to be a Texan, fine... I'll root for him. If he moves on & gets a chance to start for someone else, fine... I'll root for him.

Why?
Mallett looked like the best QB on the roster when he got a chance to play. Savage looked shaky at first, but finished strong.
They both (Mallett & Savage) have playing experience now.
& Thad Lewis started 6 games in his career.
Who would you like to see behind center next season and why?
Mallett, because this offense looked like a pro offense when he ran it. He's tall, he's got a strong arm, he knows when to be aggressive, he knows when to hurry up the offense, when to press an advantage.
Mallett running this offense, with this defense for 10 games is a sure fire play off team.
I think you let Fitz go. Or name him as the backup. There's no reason to muddy the water by putting Fitz into the competition. We know what he can do, and it's not good enough. Mallett may /should improve. Savage may/should improve. QB X may be the answer. Fitz is not the answer."I think you let those two battle it out next summer.
"Looked like the best QB on the roster". He is tall and has a big arm. Now, those attributes must translate to performance. For all the praise he got for the Browns game, his numbers and point total for that game were on par or slightly below Fitz's average game for the year. And Fitz is putting up those numbers without the tools and physical prowess of Mallett. I think you let those two battle it out next summer. Savage may have potential, but was raw and finished with an INT and put up 3 points on offense in 3 quarters. You were probably very critical of Fitz's first game against Indy where the offense rallied from a big deficit and lost 33-28, but I'm sure according to you that was a weak QB performance.

When they sign Mallett, we'll know what's what. I don't think Mallett will sign for $3.25M/yr, he'll more than likely get $6+ million & it'll be plain as day... no QB competition, Mallett is our starter.
The QB battle will be Tom Savage proving that he deserves second team snaps. If he proves that, then it's going to be hard to justify keeping Fitzpatrick.
Fitz has fanbois?
Had the defense been playing anywhere close to where it's been playing of late earlier in the season, Fitz is more than good enough. If a team with a good defense can't find a way to win with a qb that produces 19 TD's (2 rushing) to 8 int's and a 95.3 rating and who is showing great improvement of late, then something is wrong elsewhere. Have you actually watched some of the QB'ing around the league? You're going to stake everything in a guy with a QB rating in the 70's and 2 TD 2 INT (Mallett) or a mid round project with 0 TD and 1 INT and one start? With the way the defense is playing of late, you don't let go of a QB you could theoretically win 11 to 12 games next year with...
I've watched Fitz. In the meat of the schedule, he failed. Great against the dregs of the league. Against good teams, he's over matched. Which is why he was benched (at least a game too late, IMO).If a team with a good defense can't find a way to win with a qb that produces 19 TD's (2 rushing) to 8 int's and a 95.3 rating and who is showing great improvement of late, then something is wrong elsewhere. why the hell would the Texans or any team give him a year? He's played 2 games and looked like total **** in the most recent one.
I think maybe 2 million for a year with an option for another. Then he can prove himself and so can the Texans.
The Texans will want to sign him to a long term deal to lock in his cost at today's dollars.
Mallett will want a short term deal to prove he can play in this league & get to FA quicker.
More than likely it will be structured so that he doesn't get $6M+ in his first two years. Then balloon in his third. Allowing him to prove that he's worth the big pay-day.
But there is no benefit for him to play for us on a one year deal with a team option for a second.
I see your point, and concede that it may be a 3 or 4 year deal. But it's disingenuous to say (or infer) he's going to sign for $6 million a year
And this is where we talk about next year's QB...Jay Cutler.
And this is where we talk about next year's QB...Jay Cutler.
You know someone was going to suggest it. May as well be me.Oh please no...
That's not gonna happen. Keenum could find a backup job and fall into some starts. No one is handing him the keys from the jump.I'd prefer to let Fitz go but Keenum might want to go somewhere he can start.
How about Cutler AND Harvin? Two negatives make a positive. I saw that on Bill Nye the Science Guy.I do not want Cutler. He is poison.

As long as Cutler slips on a banana peel and misses the season, maybe.
I'd like them to just throw Mallet, Savage, Keenum and a very highly drafted QB into next years training camp.
How about Kapernick? With Harbaugh out in San Fran he may be available for a trade. Savage, and Hoyer are the top FA QB's.
I'm not sure that Kapernick is BoB's type of QB. I think that BoB is itching to start Mallet and make him The Guy. I think that BoB thinks more of Mallet and Savage than he does of Keenum, no matter what Keenum does next week.
I could be wrong, but that's my impression.
Mallett was playing with that pesky torn pec. And the TD to JJ had some touch.I am not sold on Mallet. He is like the real life version of Wild Thing Rick Vaughn. All arm and no accuracy. No touch. The man has played football all of his life and he still doesn't understand you don't have to riffle it to a guy that is standing right next to you. Mallet couldn't hit water if he fell off of a boat against Cincy.

Didn't Rick Vaughn win the pennant? I'd be OK with that.

After he got glasses. Maybe that's what he needs?
Making an observation. One good game, one terrible game, and if he was that injured what was he doing throwing 45 passes? But how the Texans have handled injured players is a topic for a different thread.Accuracy was awesome against the browns pre injury, accuracy was horrible against the Bengals post injury. You honestly make no sense with the argument.
