Texans Playoff Picture

Just out of curiosity, is Harbaugh no longer a good NfL coach, was he never one, or is it unfair to judge a head coach when his team totally unravels mentally and physically over the course of a promising season?

Well, we all know the reason why they lost is because we needed them to win.

Where's Thorn, I need a smoke.

Hopefully, this game really bites the texans in the *ss next week... It would mean a 9-7 finish, which would be an impressive achievement given our current QB situation.

blowing a 28-7 lead at halftime at home??? that's worse than our meltdown loss to the seahawks when we lead 20-3 at half at home.

If I was one of places thinking about hiring him (Michigan, Raiders, whoever) I have to reconsider after a completely heartless effort by a team (he assembled) of pansies.

So now our only hope is if Steelers and Ravens lose out? Yea not happening...

Our playoff hopes died in Indy. We went through ALL of our starting QB's for the season. They said we had the worst QB situation in the league coming into this season. Well the Texans said Oh, yeah? Watch this.

Maybe if we didn't blow games against Indianapolis, Dallas, Pittsburgh or Cincinnati we wouldn't have to rely on other teams.

but... um... you just said that it's over when all those other teams decide, assuming we have decided to win our two games, that is...

He was just using this as an excuse to throw in the classic Animal House Germans @ Pearl Harbor quote.

Didn't mean anything by it.

The game right now is huge! The Texans chances improve significantly with a SD loss (so, that red zone fumble was unpleasant!). The Pittsburgh vs. KC game will provide clarity regarding the path needed for the Texan playoff chances. On its own, though, it doesn't determine that much .

Here are the scenarios:

If SD wins, the following things need to happen for Texans to make playoffs (in addition to winning their last two games):

if KC defeats Pitt tomorrow, all the following must also happen
1. Buffalo must lose at least one game (Oak, NE)
2. Baltimore loss to Cleveland in week 17.
3. Pitt loss vs. Cincy in week 17.

if Pitt defeats KC tomorrow, all of the following must also happen
1. Buffalo loss one or two games
2. Baltimore loss vs. Cleveland
3. SD lose vs. KC

IF SD loses tonight, it is a much more likely path:

if Pitt defeats KC tomorrow, then both things listed below must happen)
1. Buffalo lose one or two games (Oak, NE)
2. Baltimore loss vs. Cleveland

if KC defeats Pitt tomorrow (3 out of 4 things listed below need to happen)
1. Buffalo lose 1 or 2 more games (Oak, NE)
2. Baltimore loss vs. Cleveland
3. Pittsburgh loss vs. Cincy
4. KC loss vs. SD

I noticed a couple of common themes...

I don't think so. Pitts and Balt both have 9 wins already... either one gets a win and we are eliminated

remember, there are two wild card spots. Unfortunately, because KC's (8-6)remaining games are against Pittsburgh and SD, it will take a fortunate string of events to prevent two 10-6 wild card teams. If Pittsburgh wins today, then KC will have to beat SD next week... along with Buffalo losing one game, and Baltimore losing to Cleveland. If Pittsburgh loses today, then they will have to lose next week also vs. Cincy, along with Baltimore losing out and Buffalo losing one game... because, in that scenario, the winner of KC vs. SD (both would be 9-6) would be a 10 win team.

Oh, and we can't afford any of these teams to have a tie. by the way... that Cincy tie to Carolina early this year is damaging to our chances.

stupid chargers :S

still, we are not that far from the playoffs

if you go to the playoff machine and set it to "win %" the only games that you need to change in order to get us into the playoffs are:

BAL@HOU
CLE@BAL
SD@KC

(in bold the team that needs to win)

This situation reminds me a little of 2009.

The Texans had to win their last four games (which they did), and have a number of other things had to happen during the last few weeks. Most did, and the Texans either needed the Colts to beat the Jets in Week 16 or the Bengals to beat the Jets in Week 17, and they were in.

Unfortunately, neither of those things happened- we tied with the Jets for the last spot, but because they had beaten us, they got in. I remember then just being happy the Texans were in the running in the last week, because that had never happened before. I feel kind of that same way this year, because if we win today, we can't be eliminated.

Here's to hoping everything goes our way this time!

I feel better about this season (though not exactly happy). That was Kubiak's 4th season, with 4 killer division losses in a row. Inexcusable. It was always a longshot to make the playoffs this year. Though I still think if O'Brien had gotten off Fitz earlier, the Texans would have had a better chance.

We didn't win our division. Right now, I just hope our new head coach can start his career with a winning season & continue that tradition.

It would be nice if he could start by making some noise in the playoffs but that's not in our hands.

So now it's this:

Let's hope Oakland can work some magic today because New England will rest their starters against Buffalo next week.

KC should beat San Diego, but that Browns vs. Ravens game I just can't see coming out in our favor, regardless of whether Manziel or Hoyer starts.

Are Browns playing at home?

Why would NE rest starters? If Denver win tomorrow HFA throughout AFC playoffs is still on the line.

Regardless what happens next week, I consider this season to be a success
