Cincinnati Bengals @ Houston Texans. 11/23. Noon. CBS. **Official Gameday Thread**

Really? I thought the Texans didn't use a high draft pick on a QB this year because next year was full of franchise quarterbacks. I guess they can keep waiting.

Well who you like? I hear our O is complicated. Mallet is 1-1 without Foster. And OB still has things to learn

Defense can go **** themselves too. They gave up third down after third down after third down after third down. They're complicit in this catastrophe.

**** them.

The defense was outscored 20-7. I would settle down a bit. By the way, the Browns got away with blatant holds at the offensive line all day long. AJ Green and Sanu is a tough matchup with healthy CBs... with KJ out, I thought the defense did a decent job.

The special teams units were bad and the offense was atrocious this week. I am certainly disappointed with the result and the poor execution, but it was a QB making his second career start and a rookie RB starting in a new offense. We shouldn't be happy about it, but I do think some context is warranted.

Another week of watching a stoppable force vs a movable object. Today (take your pick) won and we lost.

Like was posted, failure from top to bottom. The lone exception would be the crowd, the only thing the Texans can count on.

Silver lining? Lol, How's about we didn't get the TD at the end with time for a successful onsides kick only to lose by that dumbass safety.

Defense had a bad first half.

There press in the second half was long awaited and was much better on third down.

Oh, one other thing. Mallett was so bad it had me wondering what our chances would have been with Fitz in there.

In no way, shape, or form am I suggesting Fitz should have been in there, so take a deep breath and abort the post. :D

Broken record..

I swear, if he says we didn't play "complementary football" one more time --
I'm going to photo-print his face, stick it on some plywood, and shoot
.22 rounds at it..

Yes... the offense was a mess. On defense, the issues are clear and can all be remedied by upgrading the personnel at a few positions: ILB, S, DT... not that the team needs all-pros at those positions but simply average NFL starters... Something that can be accomplished in the offseason.

probably not much. most of the team sucked today..

mallet was just the anchor on the titanic as it sank.

The Bengals exposed something with Mallett... Hopefully it is correctable. In his first 15 dropbacks, Mallett must have double-clutched the ball 8-9 times. He clearly was being fooled by alignment or coverage at the snap. I hope it isn't simply because (like Nitro argued on another thread before the game) he only throws to his primary target.

It will be interesting to see how Mallett responds next week.

The defense was clearly awful. I don't care what we were "only" outscored by. We were dominated and it was probably season-ending.

The Bengals kept 8 guys in to block in the 1st half and used Green to beat his man .

The Bengals stopped the run and dared Mallett to beat them .

Mallett is in love with his arm . He better learn that hitting the receiver in the numbers is better than an errant 90 MPH pass .

They made the game winning plays .

Good post. I will say I thought Mallett was eyeballing his primary target a little bit too much. I thought was had RGIII out there on a couple of plays.

The defense made a goal line stand in the first half... had a pick 6 in the second half and made a series of stops to give the offense an opportunity to drive down the field in the 4th quarter for a go ahead score. I realize that it wasn't pretty to watch and frustrating... but they weren't awful if they only allowed 20 points and had a defensive touchdown.

Sadly I feel the defense isnt overacheiving.... it is what it is...watt is making the defense tons better than what it is

My optimism gave way today ..playoffs or no playoffs ..wed be one and done

And that, my friends, is what is called the sad, undeniable truth about the Texans.

This team simply sucks they have always had a stupid excuse every year and that is not changing. I don't want to see any post game interviews, not following practices through the week and definitely don't want to hear anyone hyping this organization up because it's a failure when it comes to being a winner.

Lewis said #Texans slip at key times. One or a couple players don't "do their job" and it hurts team. Have to consistently execute as team.

Mallett was downright fugly today and not in the "he just needs more experience" kind of way. I haven't seen ball placement that bad since the Carr years, flat out horrible.

You do realize that you are responding to the most emotional, over reacting, knee jerking poster to ever post on this board don't you? He may be the most unstable fan after a loss in the history of sports. I'm surprised he's not in a mental ward after last season.

Yeah, the defense was pretty good today actually. My bad. I was overreacting. All those third downs keeping the defense on the field until the last few possessions, yeah. So great. Great schemes we were running too, playing so far off their wide receivers. Our stud #1 pick Clowney was a beast. So was AJ Bouye! Great work all around, D!

At this point I don't mind watching Mallet develop. He might be the Texans long term starter. I did think they should have drafted a QB at 1/1 last year. I don't think waiting year after year for the "perfect" QB is wise. One of the reasons floated (I guess just on the board) was that the Texans shouldn't take a QB for this season because the next class was loaded.

The cushing the CBs were given is the scheme, i blame RC for that, what they hell was he thinking and then no in game adjustments. We just keep giving AJ Green a free 8 yards untouched.

Good observation.

The Steelers do the same thing and it drives me crazy.

They have two games left with the Bengals and I'll be watching to see if they continue to do it.

Did you not watch the second half? We played mostly press man from about mid third quarter on. But still was horrible to wait that long to make an adjustment.

I did notice when one of them tried to change it up by attempting to jam Green or whoever. Didn't work too well, though. But, it was about time they put the free 8 yards to rest.

Oh i know i saw us finally adjust, by that time AJ green had already shredded us for 90 yards.

Nice response. I don't know if years class is loaded. But I'd bet on mallet over a class with a fool named Winston and a Oregon qb leading the pack

This game is an indictment on Rick Smith's horrific job of drafting and pro player acquisition. Our CBs and LBers other than Rolle and Cushing suck. Derek Newton was an abomination and I almost got into a fight with a guy at the game after I tore into the fat, lazy POS RT. Clowney was lost on several plays and didn't know his assignment. No factor at all in this game.

JADEVEON CLOWNEY IS AN AUNDRAY BRUCE LEVEL BUST!

FIRE RICK SMITH.

We ought to have a rule that you can't beotch about the GM and the top pick unless you posted against the selection before the draft.

DMO's failed attempt at a jam was quite funny.

I thought he played really well besides that play.

he was all over the receivers on that side.

Game turned around once they put him on Green. Too much too late though as the QB was not making any throws today.

The problem with the Texans can be summed up in one simple phrase - there is a serious lack of talent on both sides of the ball. That is an indictment of the General Manager and/or whomever has final say on the team roster. With the first pick in each round heading into this past draft (11 picks total to begin), it should be completely inexcusable to have that little talent depth at so many different positions.

1. Jadeveon Clowney - has shown little so far. Has played through severe yeast infections, horrible vaginal dryness, and today took the field having just started his monthly cycle.

2. Xavier Su'a-Filo - last time I saw him on field he was removed during a series and replaced by Ben Jones. Let me say that again - Ben Jones.

3. C.J. Fiedorowicz - is great for a hold or a false start every game. Is there a fantasy league where penalties count?

3. Louis Nix - IR. Probably for life.

4. Tom Savage - Not sure he has even seen the inside of NRG Stadium yet.

6. Jeoffrey Pagan - Has he done anything this year?

6. Alfred Blue - our best pick of the draft. He averaged 2.9 years per carry today against the 28th ranked defense.

6. Jay Prosch - see Alfred Blue, the guy he helped get that awesome 2.9 YPC today

7. Andre Hal - Has had some good moments this year, but last time I saw him Mark Sanchez was laughing at him. Buttfumble was laughing at him.

7. Lonnie Ballentine - whatever....

Having seen it wrote out makes it so much worse :freakout:

Having seen it wrote out makes it so much worse :freakout:

It gets worse:

Texans 2013 draft picks
DeAndre Hopkins - our best WR, has a lot of potential
D.J. Swearinger - love his attitude, wish he could cover better than B. Pollard
Brennan Williams - not on team
Sam Montgomery - not on team
Trevardo Williams - not on team
David Quessenberry - tough hand we sometimes get dealt in life
Alan Bonner - no longer on team
Chris Jones - a solid starter ------ ON ANOTHER TEAM
Ryan Griffin - 3rd string TE, can't beat out a guy who holds for a living (CJ)

Remember JD before the knee injury.

Lets all go back down memory lane.

Oh wait.

He didn't suck then.

Stop being an emotional knee jerker.

I never supported Clowney and I never will. If I ever see Clowney in person, I will make sure to tell him in his face how much of a *****, jake that he is. It would be worth a beat down. I was booing and yelling at both Clowney and Newton for sucking. You sound like the guy a couple rows in the front row trying to shut me up. I shut that asshole down and will do the same to you.
