Safety evaluations

Looking for info on 2015 crop of safeties. Specifically, Anthony Harris, Prewitt, Eskridge, Drummond and Tyler Hunter. Your opinion on skills and where will be drafted. Not interested in Collins.

Any thoughts on corners that could convert and why also.

Thanks!

Prewitt is probably going 1st round at the rate he's playing right now. Harris is probably moving down toward 3rd-4th round. His man coverage is bad. I haven't seen much of Eskridge this year but I really liked what I saw last year. I had him pegged as a 2nd rounder coming into this year. Drummond is hurting his stock weekly. He's been the main culprit on almost every coverage bust by MSU the past few weeks. He even got benched for a true freshman in the Purdue game. He's probably a 4th rounder right now.

Thanks! Any CBs that can translate to Safety? My concern is Swearinger rather than Lewis who should re-sign. Do I take Prewitt in second (not 1st yet)and hope he pushes Swear or start Swear and draft a backup later? I need to strengthen this position if I don't go corner day one and two.

I add speed at LB 1st. If you are going to run a 3-4 then you need great LB's. I've been running various mocks thru my head but want to see how BOB handles the QB situation before I post my 1st mock.

My theory is this team lacks speed at all positions.

Totally agree! We must have the slowest overall speed in the league

Not to disagree or argue but if you can't tackle them when you catch them, speed does not help. Tackling has been an issue for years as has been blocking after play has developed. Many times I have yelled "block somebody!" as the Texans stand around looking at the ball.

gots to agree with ya there

Louisville red shirt sophomore Gerod Holliman now has 13 INTs with two games remaining, 6'1" 210. An thoughts on him? I expect him to return to school if he does not get at least high second round rating. I'd be looking at him if Prewitt gone.

http://Grantham came over from Georgia after the 2013 season, part of Bobby Petrino’s new coaching staff at Louisville. He swapped the scheme from a 4-3 to a 3-4, and he had to find replacements for seven departing defensive starters, including a handful of NFL talent. When Grantham began evaluating the players remaining on the roster, Holliman stood out.

“He’s the quarterback of the defense back there,” Grantham said. “He studies tape, understands routes and route progressions, and that’s allowed him to get a jump on the ball and get those picks.”

Grantham said Holliman reminds him of former UGA safety Bacarri Rambo, who racked up eight interceptions as a junior in 2011 in a similar role. But the key for Holliman was his preparation during the summer.

“He took what he had done in the spring and did the things he had to do to get better and really worked on those things in the offseason,” Grantham said. “He was in as good a shape as anybody, and he’s really a smart kid.”

Smart kids with a good work ethic flourish in Grantham’s scheme.

In a more regimented system, Holliman might have blossomed into a good nickel corner, but Grantham likes to take athletes and let them spread their wings. There’s a framework that everyone must adhere to, but within that system, the scheme allows playmakers a chance to put their signature on how plays are executed on game da

Anyone know anything about Byron Jones S/CB from Connecticut? Here's what Walter has to say about him, and CBS doesn't have anything written up on him yet but does agree that he's a 3-4 round pick at this time. I like the height and experience at both S and CB. With the quality of play from Kendrick Lewis this season, I'm thinking FS can drop to the middle rounds of importance in 2015. Any knowledge or opinions?

Byron Jones, S/CB, Connecticut
Height: 6-1. Weight: 196.
Projected 40 Time: 4.55.
Projected Round (2015): 3-4.
11/8/14: Jones has 24 tackles with four passes broken up and two interceptions this year. He had a good productive performance against East Carolina and its potent passing attack with an interception and pass broken up.

8/27/14: Jones played well in 2013, his first season at cornerback, with 60 tackles and three interceptions. If he continues to improve his coverage skills, he could rise higher in these rankings. For the NFL, Jones may fit best in a predominantly zone scheme. In 2012, he was a starter at safety and had 88 tackles with an interception. He broke into the starting lineup during the 2011 season and had 51 tackles.

Tore his labrum a few weeks ago and is out for the season. He's been projected more as a CB in the pros because of his length but could play either CB or FS. I think 4th round is about where he will go.

LOL...
I saw the thread title and first thought of OSHA.

:smiliepalm:

Nevermind...carry on.

Thanks. I was thinking of him as a possible FS with CB coverage skills and speed. He'd help out in nickle and dime packages, and we run alot of nickle.

I was watching him prior to injury, he had 24 T and 2 INTs totaling 70 yds and one TD. 4 passes broken up. Due to Connecticut's schedule it has been hard for me to evaluate. When I decided to go with Prewitt, I decided to not focus on later round safeties; had to reduce number of guys I watch. He should heal by combine and may keep a 4th round ranking if he does well.

Here is a link from my notes on him you may not have read; not very helpful but gives a read on him. Note it is from July before season began:
