Johnny Who? Texas A&M reloads...

So it only took one game for Kenny Hill to let A&M fans forget who Johnny Football was...

I knew this kid was gonna be good, didn't know he was that good...

should be interesting year for the Ags

Heck of a game, far surpassed my expectations. I miss the days of being tu's ugly stepsister, and not being able to recruit the top athletes in the country.... not :)

Found this intriguing article... wonder how this writer feels this morning? LOL

"The college football world was fortunate to enjoy Johnny Manziel for as long as it could.

Two years flew by and now the quarterback – who helped Texas A&M gain immediate respect from the SEC, beat a dominant Alabama team when no one else could, escaped the claws of the NCAA, and took party photos that the Internet will never get enough of – is in the NFL.

Fun, games and Heisman trophies aside, as the Aggies begin life without Johnny Football in 2014, they also have to figure out who will replace several other key players that have moved onto the NFL.

Everyone who made Texas A&M great in 2013 is gone"

Not surprised by what this kid did....Sumlin's system is always gonna allow for his qb's to put up numbers....That's why the Manziel hype was patently ridiculous to me.....I'd seen Keenum putting up videogame numbers for 3 years at UH in this system.

Johnny who indeed.
But I dunno, I thought A&M was like a 10-point dog in last nights game ?

The argument was always the level of competition.

Another knock on Manziel out of Summy's system was that he was a 1-read take off QB. Kenny Hill looks like 2x the pocket QB Manziel ever was in college. Went through his reads, and when he extended the play he looked to pass before he looked to run.

If he continues like this and NFL coaches think he has the smarts to pick up a more complicated pro offense, he will be drafted high.

Yeah that's always the built in argument to downplay anything positive concerning a mid major. but even in those games where UH matched up against teams in the big 5 conferences, he was still putting up crazy numbers....they just lost most of the time b/c of lack talent around him. Same argument that Manzielots used in defense of his heisman campaign, Keenum couldn't even really get serious consideration b/c of it.

This kid Hill already looks like more of a polished passer than Manziel ever was and I suspect that in a few years, his numbers and achievements will have obliterated anything Manziel ever did there.

Meanwhile, Johnny was 6/17 in the last preseason game last night and finished the preseason with a 51.7% completion percentage. Easily the worst of the top QB's in this draft class.

Now, obviously, it was preseason and he definitely has time to grow and get better. It will be a process, but he will get better. But looking at what Hill did last night, there are bound to be a few guys who feel vindicated after labeling Manziel a system QB in the run-up to the draft last year and getting put on blast by a ton of people on this site.

I don't really see anything to dislike about Sumlin as a man, but as a coach I really can't stand him. I hate the way he runs his program.

He has created a culture with no discipline and no accountability and while he had some success with Manziel, I really don't think you can make that work long term.

I agree. Too busy being the players' friend.

Boy did this thread take a turn. Lol!

Not so fast Aggies. :peek:

Believe me, it reflects on the season.

I hope we can pull out a win. Out of Auburn, LSU, and Mizzou, Mizzou seems the most likely. 7-5 and then a victory in the bowl game to go 8-5 would line up with what most people expected prior to the South Carolina game. That would salvage the season in my eyes.

If Sumlin doesn't drop our O-Coordinator and D-Coordinator in the offseason, I'm done with him. We're not paying $5 million for that **** and there are better coaches who would come to A&M for that sort of money.

A&M tried to give that game away!

Thankfully they managed to hold on, albeit with a lot of luck, including the "Butt Snap" (akin to the infamous "butt fumble")

:thumbup

Gotta love when those crazy events just bounce your way. Good win by the Ags, and I'm proud of the young team. There were points where I think there were 6-7 Freshmen on the field on both offense and defense.

On another note... Myles Garrett will one day be a top 10 draft pick. He's the number 15 who blocked the field goal.

Yessir!! A lot of freshman and somehow a lot of poise... Great win, and some people didn't think A&M belonged in the SEC!
