Who is Drea Avent?
And what player did he/she talk to?
I find it difficult to give any credence to these kinds of reports.

I'd like to Posey get activated to take advantage of Mallet's arm strength. He's the best downfield threat that the Texans have.
Personally, I still have my doubts that he's the answer, but I do know now is the time to find out for sure.

Maybe our O-line will block for him.
One of the big problems with Fitzpatrick, as Playoffs has pointed out in the past, was his inability to see over the O and D lines because of his height. And I pointed out that on top of that, the release off point of his passes have been low....at ear level. All this is why you see him ignore the middle of the field (when receivers there are wide open), get so many batted passes, and has no ability to quick pass over the rushing D when the pressure comes from up the middle (especially when the pass protection breaks down).
Mallet being at least 4 inches taller than Fitzpatrick should be an instant gift to improve the outcomes in the aforementioned situations............which have thus far been extensive in numbers.
o plzzz Fitz is taller then Keenum and almost has tall has yates I don't think that was the problem

Agreed
There was a video posted just a short time ago (might even be in this thread) showing Mallet's release point being at around 8' in the air. Fitz, if he's releasing at ear level is under 6'?
I just don't even begin to see how this isn't a huge improvement and I'm hoping better visibility + higher release point = better pass distribution and fewer batted/blocked balls.
I'm guessing Mallett scrambles away from sacks about as well as a sloth does. That's probably not going to be very good with how crappy our pass protection has been the last few weeks.
You should probably look at a highlight video or two. Go nuts on YouTube and look at them all.
Descriptions of his immobility run rampant and I'm not seeing it. He's not a running QB but he's not a statue either. Not at all.
Maybe they'll quit the brain-farts (false starts for example) and quit digging us into holes and killing drives. I'm not worried about the blocking. A QB who can get the ball down the field and make teams pay for blitzing him will do wonders for pass protection. Watching Brown last week lunge across the line I couldn't help but think "That's a guy who's wound way too tight. He's a Pro Bowl LT and he looks like Derrick Newton
A QB who sees the whole field and can process what's happening at the speed necessary to take advantage of what's there will appear to have plenty of time. Fitz doesn't do that. Brady does that. The questions is "Does Mallet do that?"
It's a question we would never be able to answer without seeing him out there playing in a real game. No amount of preseason pretend football will tell us that. It's really more important than his "Laser-Rocket Arm" or his height, or his "wheels". What's between a QB's ears is what matters most.

He's plenty statuesque (Watched 2010 vs Auburn, 2011 Sugar Bowl). He can move around in the pocket, some, but he's not doing anything that makes me think he's going to be able to escape any kind of pass rushing threat with his legs. Hopefully he is more accurate than Fitz has been this season, but with how bad our O-line has been pass protecting, I'm not so sure he's going to be some kind of unmitigated success.
Brady can get away with being a statue in the pocket because he has a very high football IQ, and knows when to step up to avoid rushers, and knows how to get rid of the ball on time. When I watched Mallett's highlights I saw a guy with a real strong arm, who stared down his receivers, and looked as like he was in trouble if his OL broke down in pass protection.
Maybe I'm not the guy that you would want to converse with about Mallett, http://www.battleredblog.com/2014/9/3/6100837/the-film-room-ryan-mallett-houston-we-have-a-monster this article should fill some of you with delusions of grandeur until he actually takes some meaningful snaps.

He's not gonna run away from people that's true...
Have you watched the highlights of him from this preseason? He's matured, makes quick decisions and has a high enough IQ I think to get rid of the ball if necessary.
when someone says statue I think of a QB that just crumbles when the rush comes, can barely even slide in the pockets...when they do try to move around they look completely awkward...
Mallett has shown some decent evasion in the pocket.
you know how it is, for some folks if the QB isn't Fran Tarkenton, Randall Cunningham, Steve Young, and RG3 all rolled into one, he's a "statue".

I know there's a lot of excitement about starting Mallet, but I don't think anyone is really deluded about the odds that Mallet is a true franchise QB who's been wasting away on New England's bench.
Yeah, we're all focused on the good side of this "what if" but we know. The point is that we're moving forward, at least it feels like it. We're not stuck on Fitz.
yep. There is hope where there was none before.
And, if nothing else, this will give us something to talk about in the off-season with 7 games of Mallet as starting QB. Hopefully, more than 7 games, if ya' know what I mean...

Perfect!!!
I think the playbook changes. Just as the ravens playbook look different than the texans because of the qb arm talent. I thought the texans shouldve drafted mallett in the 3rd rd when he came out. If youre going to have a midline passer, at least have one with great arm talent like mallett. I also think there will be more max protect to allow andre and crew to stretch the field more. Andre can now get open on those deep in cuts. Not only that, teams will respect the threat or a ball going over their head. Since none of the te's are athletic threats, the might as well late release to make sure the line is holding up.

I agree with this. But I would wager we will see the Browns blitz the hell out of Mallett to see if they can rattle him. If it works, expect to see a lot more if it from other opponents. My hope is he can just get rid of it when it's not there and move on to the next play. Unless of course that starts piling up 3 and out's. I'm trying to remain positive, but I can see both sides of the argument, and I will be on the edge of my seat come the Browns game.
Best of luck Ryan Mallett!
Hopefully OB has a few wrinkles to burn them a time or two early to put a stop to that chit!
God I hope we start going to our TEs over the middle now.
It's about time Ryan Mallett was put in as quarterback!I said a while ago that Mallett will help the Texans win their division. The whole league will be talking about Mallett In a few weeks.i'm a patriots fan who has Watch the mallet for five years.you now have your quarterback!
:notsureifserious:
Case was cut two weeks ago.
The Rams have brought back Case Keenum.
St. Louis signed Keenum, the ex-Texans quarterback, to its practice squad on Thursday, according to the NFLs transaction log.
The Rams waived Keenum on Tuesday. When he cleared waivers Wednesday, he was eligible to be added to the practice squad.

btw, it was already there... I didn't edited it in just now![]()
I sort of recall the conversation, but I forgot the details on how Case became eligible again. No worries, I'll look it upWe talked about this during preseason.
With the recent changes in PS eligibility, Case still has PS eligibility.
I stand corrected..... thank you.
