Funny, as I saw your post I heard it on the radio. Maybe Ej can get his head together while he's sitting. A QB making good decisions in a Buffalo uniform yesterday could have/would have spelled disaster for Houston.

That was a pretty poor performance he had against us.
Had to figure it'd happen when they gave Orton $3 million to walk in the door and $5 million total for 2014.

I was never a big fan of EJ as a pro prospect. He doesn't anticipate fast enough or push it downfield enough, never has. He's a great person though.
Was Manuel's problem decision making? I thought his issues revolved around inaccuracy. He missed receivers by a mile in some key situations.

I have a feeling EJ probably nailed that interview with Buffalo and convinced them to take a shot on him. I can't think of anybody who thought he was a first round player.

There were a lot of receivers that were wide open and near him that he apparently didn't see, however, I think he did. They were in 1st down territory and were the smart play. Either he didn't see them or chose a more difficult and dangerous option.

They were running just fine, but decided to throw anyway.
Their game plan was definitely puzzling to me. It's almost like they thought this would be a good game to get EJ's confidence up. They were sure they could throw on us and kept trying and trying but it never worked. And now they've finally realized that maybe EJ isn't the QB they thought he was.

WE couldn't run the ball. They were averaging 4.7 yards or something like that per rush. Like I said, we got lucky there.

This is exactly why I've said for years that you do everything possible to get the right QB. Get one of those studs in the draft and trade your picks to get him. It is far to difficult to find a QB that has that "it" factor in this league. A lot of teams run into that guy by luck. The position is far to important to rely on late round pick QB's to develop into the next big thing out of nowhere type of guy like Warner or Romo was at first. Go into the draft and trade some picks to get that guy who looks like a bonafied star if he is there.
Teams can go for a full decade and more running through QB's like E.J. Emmanual, Christian Ponder, Case Keenum, and guys like that.

I don't disagree with your sentiment. The QB position carries the highest priority in the league.
But there is more than one outcome, and this is what happens when that decision backfires.

exactly. the quarterback is the most important position, but throwing picks at it just because of the position is wasteful - and often harmful. 2013 was such a weak quarterback class that it was dumb to even take the chance in the first two rounds. having glennon or nassib sit a year would put them ahead of where they are with manual, and that more properly used 1st rounder would likely have netted better talent.
same with the texans this year. many (including within the staff apparently) didnt think highly of the top of this year's class. it would be better to grab someone later to sit a year and hopefully develop than throw a pick at the position. if savage makes it, fantastic. if he doesnt, we ride a veteran next year and hope the draft offers a better prospect. continuing to built talent and depth.

But your list of bad QBs is exactly the problem. The Bills and the Vikings thought that EJ Manuel and Christian Ponder HAD the "it" factor and drafted them in the 1st round. Just like the Buccs did with Josh Freeman, and so on and so on.
If you think a guy has "it" but he doesn't. You're screwed. If you don't think a guy has "it" but he turns out to have it, then you're screwed. And if you're not in a position to trade up to get a guy that might have "it", then you're screwed.
Right now, it's looking like the Redskins are screwed because they traded away way too much for a guy they thought had "it" but doesn't appear to now. The Titans and Rams are screwed because they have QBs that might have "it" but they can't keep them on the field.
Getting the right QB is a crap-shoot. You gotta hit the lottery and then it looks obvious in hindsight.

Agreed. "Texans only won because the other team did X." Thats hogwash to me. But fans can be overly critical of their favorite team. Chiefs fans do it to the Chiefs, Vikings fans to Vikings, ect.
For every "smart" or positive play that Orton would have made to benefit the team, it would have been evened out by the athletic, "keep the play alive" type plays that Manuel made.
The 2014 Buffalo Bills came to NRG stadium and got beat. Do we really have to belittle our accomplishments and magnify our faults?
