Lache Seastrunk

Marshall

Not pretty, but ALIVE!
I just noticed he was cut from the Panther's PS. He had a lot of supporters before the draft.

I was one of those that would have liked him in the draft, especially when he was still available when we took Blue instead. Anyone know why he was cut?

Cut from the Redskins and the Panthers. Maybe he just needs to learn how to be the best teammate he can be.

The only person I noticed clamoring for him was Pancakes, a.k.a. McGobbler. Dude made a fool of himself on Twitter during the draft over this guy

Overrated player who benefitted from a scheme that spreads the defense out and forces them to play handicapped against the run. Anybody can run for yards in that offense.

Good straight line speed but offers little else. I thought that was obvious from watching him in college but he does seem to have a lot of fans.

That tends to happen a lot around here.

This is what I've heard about him all along.

After flashing his speed in the preseason finale, running back Lache Seastrunk looked headed for the Washington Redskins' 53-man roster. Or, at worst, their practice squad.

Turns out it was neither. The Redskins cut their sixth-round pick Saturday and then Sunday opted not to sign him to their practice squad. A source said Sunday night that the Redskins had planned to do so, but changed their minds at the "last minute."

The Redskins did add running back Chris Thompson, whom they liked more than Seastrunk, to the practice squad. Both fill a similar role, but Thompson was further ahead in the pass game. Undrafted rookie Silas Redd was the only back not on the roster in 2013 to make it this summer. Seastrunk's speed was impressive, but his work in the pass game had a long way to go, from protection -- where he really struggled -- to route running.

I would have thought with his speed that he would be a situational player that you just want to get into space like on screens, jet sweeps or return duties.

Problem is you can't line him up in the backfield because he can't run between the tackles and he can't pass block.

You can't split him out because he can't run routes and can't catch. Any time he is on the field he handicaps what you can do with your offense.

He could return kicks but I'm not carrying a guy on my roster to just do that unless he is absolutely fantastic at it.

Right you are. I had very similar criticisms leading up to the draft. He can't block, can't catch, and is a straight line runner. He looks very much like a track athlete playing football. No apparent football specific skills. No team in the NFL has a need for a change of pace back who cannot contribute in the passing game.

I rated him as a 6th rounder in my rankings on this site's draft section leading up to the draft and got quite a lot of criticism from his fans on this board. This tends to happen an awful lot around here though when it comes to local products. The fact that he got beat out by 3 different UDFA's for a Panthers roster spot tells you all you need to know.
