Morris Claiborne Leaves Cowboys After Benching

The Dallas Cowboys have invested a lot in cornerback Morris Claiborne, the No. 6 overall pick of the 2012 NFL draft. Amid his third NFL season, Claiborne hasn't lived up to the hype.

On Tuesday, he was reportedly informed that Orlando Scandrick would take his spot in the starting lineup. Claiborne didn't take the news lightly. Or well.

According to Jean-Jacques Taylor of ESPNDallas.com, the young defensive back left the Cowboys training facility and didn't participate in Tuesday's practice, which could result in a fine from the team.

That's very immature and shows that he's emotionally soft. I thought he'd be a good player coming of college. Guess
Not.
 
For the most part Mo has been soft or sick, so I can't imagine why he is upset. I can thank him for improving the last few minutes of the game, but that was only good for lowering the blood pressure by 30.

It's hard to say without being there. He may not have been happy with a lot of the decisions the Cowboys have made & this is just the straw that broke the camel's back.

I doubt there's a lot of good decisions being made in Cowboy camp. & I'm sure we've all got our breaking point.

I am certain that you did not see the game on Sunday. Davis was having a field day passing in Mo's direction and it wasn't until that late interception that Mo showed a spark of playing his position and it didn't start with the game on Sunday.

Jerry gave up a lot to get Mo and as he said

I couldn't blame Jerry for blaming himself for that aggressive pick if it turns to not work out. He gave up a lot to see his corner 10 miles from an open receiver. It's bad enough that we haven't been a winning team in years, but time is up for Mo to still bask in his glory days at LSU.

Time is up for Jerry to realize he ended the Cowboys glory days (2nd) when he got overly involved.

Yep.

Ever since Jerruh's been futilely trying to disprove that Jimmuh was the core of the Cowboy's success, and Jerruh was just along for the ride.

It's a shame Jimmy Johnson never came back to run a team in the NFL -- I think he could've had a repeat performance.

Didn't he coach the Dolphins? The same business model should have worked with a little time, I think.

You're right. I was thinking he didn't have complete control there, but I guess it was more burnout. He inherited a lot of that team, vs. building both sides from scratch.

They went to the playoffs the last 3 of his 4 years there and didn't have any losing seasons. He made the defense much better. But Marino was done and Jimmy benched him in the last season and they both retired.

Who was the QB after Marino? I read that they lost 62 or something to 7ish in the playoffs before he retired. Doesn't sound like the defense was great that day. Don't get me wrong, I was very angry when Jimmy chose to resign and Jerry accepted, but with his record it seems that he would have had the same opportunity, especially in Florida, to build another dynasty.

Damon Huard started the remainder of the 1999 games. 1998 they had the #1 D on pts, #3 on yds but got crushed 38-3 by the Broncos in the playoffs. I think the expectation level was just too high - replacing Shula, and aging Marino and expectations that he would be the crowning piece to the team for more SBs and instead he benches Marino. It would have been interesting to see him go to a team which was not as good and yet set up for failure at the same time.
 
May be revisionist history on my part, but I think Jimmy needed Jerry just as much as Jerry needed Jimmy.

Well if that is your definition of deserving equal credit then we'll just agree to disagree. I guess Jerry thought like you. I think the results speak for themselves. And fyi - everyone saw greatness in Jimmy.

Maybe if he would have had 3 #1 overall picks in a row and managed to land 3 future skill position players including the leading rusher of all time, and a player he could trade for a gazillion draft picks then he could have replicated the success he had in Dallas... maybe a number of coaches could have.

Just my opinion but Dallas was playing Claiborne as we played KJ until this season at cover CB rather than in Zone. I have not focused on Claiborne after draft but a lot could be on coaching. KJ kept his mouth shut and kept working to improve, Morris Claiborne has not handled his situation as well. If he is cut, I would like to see him working with our coaches in a zone.

Not really wanting to tear Jimmy Johnson down as he is a hometown hero of mine. & while everyone may have seen Jimmy's greatness, it was Jerah that brought him to the NFL & America's team.

Beyond that it seems Jimmy next divorce came with discord in the Cowboys marriage. From that point he went on to Miami, but unfortunately, that relationship didn't work out either. Jerry has also experienced the agony of defeat for many years since the Johnson/Switzer era. Therefore, I see the possibility of a lose/lose situation.

However, both have found success in another area. Jimmy has done quite well in his role as an NFL Analyst, nice stiff hair and all. Jerry has experienced enormous success in sports marketing.

Hopefully, both are beyond the days of all that went wrong and the Cowboys will experience the success of an elite team while Jimmy realizes his dream in his chosen profession.
