Thursday night football. Atlanta versus Tampa Bay

Can't beleive people here think so little of Matt Ryan.

Who thinks so little of Matt Ryan? I mean, you have to win the big one to be elevated into the top 5 conversation, but he's right behind the SB winners, IMO.

A lot of people here didn't like him coming out of college and have never givin him any credit as a pro.

Search his name I bet there is more negative comments about him than positive.

I didn't know him coming out of college. I don't think he's earned the accolades he's gotten since being in the league. I think he's one of the few starters who are actually starters, but that's about it.

I have Atlanta defense in a Fanduel league this weekend, first place pays $15,000. I'm off to a good start. Had Matt Ryan and Julio Jones but I switched for Stafford and megaton.

Just think some people actually thought the Texans should have signed McCown this off-season thank god they didn't. He is the worst starting qb in the league. Just think if the Texans had hired Lovie and signed McCown they would be the team that looks like pure poop. I can't remember ever seeing a team look so badly coached. :kubepalm:

I wanted mcCown and I'm glad I was wrong.

As far as Matt Ryan goes he is a good QB but he is definately not elite.

McKnown may go down as one of the worst free agent signings ever. It had disaster written all over it a guy in his mid 30's who had never had much success and had a great run in a contract year. Thanks but no thanks on that one.

There's no way to tell what would have happened had McCown come here (or gone anywhere but Tampa for that matter).

Think about it. Chicago brings in a guy touted as a QB guru to be the new HC. He replaces a guy who was defensively oriented, and had a reputation for underperforming offenses - particularly at the QB position. McCown thrives in the limited opportunity he gets in the new system under the new coach. Then he becomes a free agent, and where does he go? Back to the first coach I mentioned. Top that off with the fact that the first coach brings in an Offensive coordinator who doesn't have a days worth of NFL experience, and he brings a QB coach who also doesn't have a days worth of NFL experience.

We've got a guy touted as a QB guru along with his hand-picked QB coach (and quite possible future O-Coordinator). Both have NFL experience combined with Division I college experience. McCown would have been coming to a place where it's highly unlikely anyone will ever accuse it's current HC of ignoring the offense in order to focus on the other side of the line of scrimmage.

Granted, it's speculation, but let me ask you this - If The Texans had signed McCown, and the Bucs had signed Fitzpatrick, do you really think we'd be talking about how much better the QB we just watched play the Falcons is than the bum we signed from Chicago?

They paid McCown more money than we paid Fitzpatrick, and he's a 35 year old career backup with a 1:1 int:TD ratio in the CFL. Yes, if he would've come here rather than Fitz it would be worse. Mostly because, who in their right mind would think McCown is going to have a career revival? I mean besides idiot Bears fans who unreasonably Jay Cutler.

I thought Lovie was going to at least make the Bucs defense pretty good, hoo boy was i wrong.

Lovie must be sick. Hell, I'm sick for him. Putting all his eggs in the McCown basket. The cat just looks overwhelmed. And he's dragging the rest of his team down with him.

And I thought our guys looked depressed toward the end of last year...

Pretty sure you and I had a back and forth with you saying that Matt Schaub was about as good as Matt Ryan not long after last season ended.

I believe overall Matt Schaub has been a better QB than Matt Ryan, through the end of last season.

I may have argued that had Schaub been allowed to play out the season it is possible he could have turned it around & had about as good a season as Matt Ryan did (Matt Ryan & the 4-12 Atlanta Falcons).

Last season I would have much rather had Matt Schaub with the contract we gave him than Matt Ryan with the contract he was recently given.

Today, I would feel my team is stuck in mediocrity (like we did with Schaub) if we had just signed Matt Ryan to that deal. I don't believe he's going to win the Super Bowl, I don't believe he's going to deliver back to back winning seasons, or make the Falcons a perennial play off team.
