Greg Aiello ‏@gregaiello
Roger Goodell has announced that based on new video evidence that became available today he has indefinitely suspended Ray Rice.
Just in time.

Good on the Ravens? My guess is the Ravens knew all along and was hoping this would blow over. Knowing it wouldn't, they were forced to do what they should've done as soon as they found out, cut his sorry ass.

Don't for a second think I believe that franchise has halos on it. Just think they did right today, and today only.

Looks like the League will continue to lie about seeing the video prior to their decision. They need this to justify their lie.

Video breakdown:

They go in the elevator, he says something to her, she hits him in the face.

Rice puts up a hand to defend himself, and walks backwards.

She approaches him to (possibly) hit him again, he knocks her out.

That's the video. Make your own judgements from there, but that's exactly what the video shows.

You missed the part where he spits in her face as they're walking to the elevator and she swipes at him. You also missed when she was selecting the floor and he walks up and spits in her face a second time. Make your judgement off the entire clip.

So, let me get this straight.......

The league knew he knocked out his fiancée and was awarded a 2 game suspension.

Then they see footage (or the rest of us got to see it) of him knocking her out he gets released and is suspended indefinitely?

But a man enjoying some mangoes gets a year?

Goodell needs to go.

What angers me is it will happen. Remember Lawrence Phillips? How many teams gave him a shot after his violent past? I might add he's in jail now.

Yup.

I did the same with the Bengals when they hired PacMan. They can kiss my ass. Goodell too. He's the dipshit that kept reinstating the guy after 6-7 situations.

I was on Goodells side when he initially began these harsher (is that a word?) punishments, but it's obvious to me there was never a set guideline to the conduct policy. It's basically how he feels that day, I reckon

Basically the lesson here is that you can commit a violent crime and only get a slap on the wrist from the NFL.

But if the crime is captured on camera you are done.

What exactly did people think happened in that elevator? Why is what he did so much worse now than it was before? I didn't see anything in that video that I didn't expect to see.

The guy is trash. Pure and simple. Don't feel sorry for him at all. But this whole uproar today is pretty funny, considering everybody had to have already known exactly what happened.

Okay.. Your breakdown description of the video:

That's not what happened at all

and even if it went down like that (which it didn't)

I don't really give a crap, because even if things went down the way you described they did,

it still doesn't give that loser P.O.S. a excuse to do what he did.

Make your own judgements from there, but that's exactly what I thought after watching the video.

Exactly. The uproar is astounding!

How did it not? Apparently he spit on her, that's hard to tell in the video. Mind you this is the only clip I've seen of it. Everything I posted was literally second for second what happened. If you have some sort of additional info, I have not read it.

People are getting on Goodell..but he's just the guy the owners hired...He's at their mercy for the most part. I'm sure none of them wouldn't have had an issue with Goodell hitting him with a season long suspension from the jump...but none of them came out and objected to the tiny 2 game suspension he gave him either.

Furthermore, if i have this right the initial punishment Gooddell handed out was negotiated by the player's association as an infraction type thing. Even if he wanted to ban the guy for life he couldn't have done it based on his history and the fact that there was nothing on the books for handling this specific kind of stuff....which is why this domestic abuse policy came to fruition in the 1st place.

This is my thing...Despite how bad the initial video looked, I reserved judgement on him b/c we didn't know what happened in there at the time. Certainly what actually did happen in there was a possibility, but for those of us that have been put in situations where defending yourself against a woman was justifiable, there were other possibilities too.

So when this 2nd video came out, i wasn't exactly shocked or outraged even more, it just confirmed that he was indeed a P.O.S.

What did you expect, she had him at knife point? He's a pro-football player, in what situation is hand to hand combat with a woman justifiable?

The type of situation you describe....or some Solange Knowles type ish...The point is reserve judgement until the facts or more damning evidence comes out....Kind of an important principle here in this nation.... this innocent until proven guilty thing....our justice system is kinda based on it.

Jay Z seemed to do fine without striking Solange.

Did Ray Rice not admit to striking her? Is that not enough evidence?

I think Jay-Z would have been justified with a push, to get her off of him. I think Jay-Z would have been justified with extending his arm to keep her at arms length. I could see Jay-Z bobbing & weaving & throwing little love taps just to toy with her & make her more upset.

While doing all that, I can see her slipping, getting accidentally pushed into the handrail & getting knocked out that way.

I definitely did not expect to see him spit on her twice, throw that left cross, then treat her like garbage.

Call me naive, but I'm totally shocked.

saddest thing in all of this....

she is still with him....doesn't have the common sense to see he is a bad man and will probably do it again....

I'm no lawyer but I would bet that the reason he isn't behind bars right now is because SHE won't press the charges needed....

"He hit me and knocked me out!" "Don't take him away...I love him!"

so sad...

I really think Goodell is in deep **** over this. To have guys like Schefter this enraged suggests they were lied to by him, and they have completely turned on him.

How about the info where in every line that you typed in your description or what you saw, you painted Ray Rice as a victim?

Rice puts up a hand to defend himself, and walks backwards.

When you watch that video who the heck looks like the victim? Yes women might get testy/pissed and get in your face.. they do that from time to time, but be a freaking man and deal with it.. it doesn't mean you have a license to punch them the F out.

To be honest I don't really give a crap what the hell happened or didn't happen.. nowhere in this video did I ever see any action that this woman performed that would excuse the abuse that took place afterwards. Cowards and poor bastards with limp ****s react the way Ray Rice did. I'll leave it up to him to decide which of the two categories he belongs in.

I have no doubt the NFL knew about this video. A billion dollar company like this not going out of their way to gather all information like this? Please. They tried to keep this under the rug not wanting to let the world know an assault nut had worn their NFL logos.

She probably needs to serve six months before she can take

I would think its safe to assume the NFL knew of the video. Now whether the venue would hand it over to them is a different matter.

Goodell still having a job is a joke.

Agree... and it isn't because of this case. This case is just the straw that broke the camels back.. He needs to step down. He's young and not near death/retirement and he's already pissed everybody off and worn out his welcome.

The owners love him, so he will stay.

Turn on sports radio today and be blown away by the Ray Rice apologists that call in, at least to local shows

Goodell suspended him for two games. No new information came out other than this video, and he changed it to indefinitely. So either he was hoping the video wouldn't come out and he could get away with sweeping this under the rug, or he never actually saw the video and believed some mitigated version of events that Mr. and Mrs. Rice told him. Either way, he's incompetent and needs to go. There's no excuse to have not seen that video before today if you're Goodell.

Apparently those morons never witnessed it happen first hand.. they must just be worried about their FF teams.

I don't care if his story is true and she did spit on him (women do crazy things). I don't care if she came at him or even swung on him.. (again sometimes women flip the hell out). Under no circumstances does that ever give you the right to ever do what Ray Rice did in this video.. it's despicable and disgusting.

You're supposed to be a elite athlete.. a top tier athlete, and yet your first reaction towards a argument with a woman is to knock the **** out of your woman? Sorry, but that makes you nothing, but a dickless coward in my book. I bet he really felt like a man and felt like he really accomplished something as he stood over her body too. What a piece of crap. He'll get his (too many people grew up with mothers and sisters), just wait, instant karma is a mother ......

I will not pile on when others are doing so much moralizing on this issue. But I do have an issue with many of those piling on.

Why is a man hitting a woman, bad as that is, somehow unacceptable while a man hitting a man, a woman hitting a man or a woman hitting a woman any less acceptable? But at least half go out of their way to mention him, a man, hitting a woman as unacceptable implying the other violence is somehow acceptable.

Just my thoughts on a 24 hour news cycle where everyone gets to express moral outrage at someone elses act while ignoring their own outrageous acts.

We all know how this is going to play out:
He'll sit out the year, he'll go cry on Oprah and say he's really sorry, he'll get reinstated and end up with the Patriots.
