Texans roster moves

If we're going to start picking up waiver wire guys, we're going to have to cut guys from here.

I'd like to see Clabo, Keo, Dent/Mohamad, Brown, and Martin upgraded if possible.

No. I forgot Harris.

Here's what I've got now as the roster:

DEFENSE 26

RDE: J.J. Watt, Tim Jamison

I thought Dent got cut...

I think the coaches did a good job of keeping the best talent. Some positions are just thin and you can only do so much with 1 offseason. Im optimistic that after another offseason and draft that this team will have enough talent and depth to return to a respectable level of football.

When does 5'10" 190 equate to "good size"? And I thought we were talking about talent? Good size has nothing to do with talent, anyway.

Obviously, those that regarded Harris highly (at any point) were wrong.

Well, I suppose I could have looked that up before suggesting that he had good size! I sit and type - corrected.

What I am excited about is that this staff saw through whatever the hell people saw in him coming out as well as whatever the last regime saw that suggested he should have been kept around.

All the cuts make good sense to me. I ended up a really big Ferentz fan, despite the fact that he's about this tall _. I'd like to see him return.

edit: and how interesting that we have 8 OL...

My PS once they clear waivers

Labhart, Travis WR 5-9 182 23 0 Texas A&M
Potter, Zach TE 6-7 269 28 4 Nebraska
Quentin Groves OLB 6-3 265 30 6 Auburn
Mathews, Ricardo DT 6-3 300 27 5 Cincinnati
Kupper, Alex G 6-3 299 24 2 Louisville
Ferentz, James C 6-2 285 R Iowa
Groves, Quentin OLB 6-3 265 30 6 Auburn
Bullough, Max ILB 6-3 249 22 0 Michigan State
Nwachukwu, Uzoma WR 5-11 198 23 2 Texas A&M
Hazel, Paul

Having waiver wire priority is a luxury. When colts and chiefs went 2-14 they picked up 6 and 7 players to their 53 man roster which turned out to give them great quality depth....Lets see what the texans do.

Groves isn't eligible anymore... and you've got him listed twice. And I really don't think he's eligible twice. :kitten:

Yeatman, Clabo are 10% and could be overturned by tomorrow. I have no issue with Meyers, Brooks, Jones and Su'a-filo as our entire interior line, especially if we end up with Ferentz on the practice squad.

You have three guys in Jones, Su'a-filo and Yeatman who are multiple.

One other thing to at least be aware of is that vested veterans (four or more years in the league) get their entire annual base salary guaranteed if they're on the opening day roster.

Without commenting about the likelihood of it (cuz I got no earthly idea), that means that guys like Mathews and Groves could be signed back after the first game without being on the hook for their complete salary should they decide to part ways again down the road.

That's a good point. That's one of those things that I know... but... forget until it happens.

Or Matthews, or either of the Aggie WR's for that matter....

Ronnie Brown is by far my biggest head-scratcher non-cut. Especially since as a 4th RB he has zero speed/ST ability

One of the best blocking RBs on the roster though, that is the only logic i see in why they kept him

They're going to run a new version of the wildcat, it's called the Sloth.

haha i guess the theory would be that defenses are so fast now days that everyone would over shoot him.

Ronnie Brown don't look to bad to me really, i mean he was running behind a bunch of scrubs all preseason, i bet he would be decent behind our actual o-line.

Ronnie Brown extends his career: With a promising rookie backup in Alfred Blue, who is still learning to catch and pick up blitzes, the Texans need a talented veteran to help mentor Blue and Jonathan Grimes, another young player who played his way onto the roster his summer. They'll get that in Brown, a good locker room presence who is entering his 10th NFL season. That is, of course, not the only reason the Texans are keeping Brown. That would be silly. He can still play and fill in where necessary.

FWIW here's ESPNs take on the Texans retaining Brown on their roster.

Arian Foster is not exactly reliable or someone I'd want our players to learn from. He's an aloof, hippie pieceashit who is insufferable off the field.

If Nix is still not ready to play, they should IR him and get him in shape for 2015. But, I thought he was cleared to play? If so, is that really

I think cleared to play and ready to play are 2 different things. I'm sure he's behind a bit on conditioning. I'm not sure what surgery he had but something like a meniscus would take a little while to return to normal but not so long he would need to be placed on IR

I like aloof

I'm an insufferable, aloof hippie. Maybe that's why Foster is still one of my favorite players. :whip:
