Texans roster moves

Wouldn't read too much into the new RB signings. Brown was brought in to be Foster's backup, but Grimes and Blue have already passed him by. No need to keep him around then.

Johnson was a 3rd down specialist who got the rookie QB killed on his first series so he got cut. In comes Brown, who has spent the last few years as a very solid 3rd down back. He has an outside shot at making the team. Depends on how the Foster injury situation unfolds.

Powell is just a camp signing. That's what Cornett was but he showed nothing. Got rid of him to bring in Powell and hope he can do something. Maybe practice squad him if he impresses.

feel like spiraling downward :drunk:

really don't feel up to investing time or energy into another draft. The most obvious deduction is the Texans needed to trade down with Atlanta if in fact the offer was made but Rick was holding out for more. He should be fired. Despite how good Clowney will become Texans are in dire need of rebuilding roster multiple positions. Rick continues to build top heavy then only hit half the time while missing completely in late rounds. He must be held accountable some point because this isn't right or acceptable. :twocents:
could not have said it better myself. A trade down and it seems one was possible if Texans had not gotten greedy, in a deep draft could have been a huge boost. Schaub and Kubiak gone and Smith should have been right behind them. I think Smith relies way too much on UDFA rather than doing better in late rounds.

Upstream, it was mentioned trading Foster for a QB, I am interested in trading him after this season for a late first and I think Bryce could be there.

You actually think we could get a late first for Foster? Not even close to a rational asking price for him.

I know, let's trade Cushing for a first and Mercilus for a second!

Yeah that is my eval on him if he has a very good season as I expect. There are teams needing that back to take them to the ring. It all depends on if he remains healthy and has a boom season.

Nobody is trading firsts for backs anymore. Hell, teams dont even draft first round RBs anymore. Darn sure wouldn't for a broken down prima donna with a year or two left on his contract.

I know the Colts traded for TR and now look at them, backs are a dime a dozen now.

Who?

What teams could you see giving up a first for Arian? I really can't think if a single one...

I almost peeped my pants when I saw that Indy gave a 1 for TR!! I LOL'd my ass off. AF has to much of an injury history to garner a day 1 or 2 pick. He's hell on wheels when he's healthy, though. Actually the Texans might be better off keeping him if he has a healthy, productive year. The dude is the total package and can be productive in just about any scheme. The knock on him coming out of college was fumbling. I think he's cured that problem.

Maybe way back when. But any smart team now would back off of backing the acquisition of a high-dollar back with a bad back coming off of even minimally-invasive back surgery back in November. They would not be wanting to have been stiffed for all those greenbacks for a back that may not even be able to make it through the season as a backup.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...............:pirate:

Texans release new depth chart:

Kupper played like a guy with an overall rating on Madden of like 50, he was like a rag doll out there, no way he will actually be starting.

Brandon Harris is all but gone at this point.

I actually think we could trade him. I think it was Peter King this morning in his MMQB who mentioned a list of like 10 or so teams that are starving for CB's and would do anything including trades to acquire some.

BTW, we were not on the list

I understand that. Just would have thought that with him and Brown named starters, another player would serve as swing.
Hmmm... yeah...
looks like if Brown missed time for some reason, we'd be playing musical tackles.

Unsettling to think he's our 2nd best OT.

Basically saying that Newton is considered the 2nd best tackle on the squad (smfh). I'm not surprised by it as much as disappointed. Newton actually makes me miss Winston from time to time (breaks my neck smfh). Newton's nickname should be Laundry or Ole. He's either picking up a penalty or not picking up a defender. :strangle:

We have our starters on the oline: Brown, Jones, Myers, Su'a-Filo & Newton. But behind these, it's pretty much a toss-up who ends up on the final roster. I'm still wondering if rookie Sam Longo can show enough these next two weeks to earn a spot - possibly replacing Kupper, and although he's not played the position, he looks like a RT.

Which is smart. All of our down roster OL have taken reps at different positions. Prior to this preseason, Newt had taken 0 snaps at LT in his career.
???? Maybe because he sucked so bad at RT???? Newton became the default swing tackle after the guy I can't remember signed with another team.

But, but, but, at Arkansas State, he was a second team All-Sun Belt Conference selection at the left tackle position, with 14 starts his senior season. The mean Texans have up to this point forced Derek to play out of position. :kitten:

I remember how everyone gave Eric Winston unmitigated hell for having short arms even for an RT. Newton will be at disadvantage at LT from arm length alone.

Duane Brown...................34 1/4"
Eric Winston....................32 1/4"
Derek Newton..................33 1/8"

Edit: FYI Clabo................32"

Dont understand how we cant do better than Newton.

If they threw a tackling dummy over there at least it wouldnt draw penalties.

Newton's family are all private investigators. He's got dirt on everyone in this organization and his job will never be in jeopardy as long as he's healthy.

Unfortunately, his family has not figured out that they need to get dirt on all the officials so they'll stop calling penalties on him.

If they hit [on right players], the next week - week & 1/2, they can build the franchise's depth

IMO, the Texans have 40 players that are "in", no one else can sleep easy, even if they make the first 53 man roster.

The other 31 NFL teams will release over 1,100 players in the next 11 days. The Texans will get 1st priority on all that are not vested vets

My excitement is tempered until I see if he's truly back at 100% effectiveness.
I hope they ease him back in. The front 7 could be ridiculous with a healthy Cush manning the middle....I think you were talking about Cush?? :truck:

Things should get real interesting in the next 2 weeks. The last cuts are where I'm expecting to see this board explode with the comings and goings. I'm looking forward to it!! :chef:

Anybody who has hopes for a much better than .500 season can forget it. Their apparent unwillingness to do anything about Newton proves that average is their goal and the most they are hoping for this year.

What do you think they should do? Start someone else at RT & see how it goes?

They did that against Atlanta.

Do you think if we trade for a RT no one else wants we'll be guaranteed a better than .500 season?
