The Johnny "Football" Manziel NFL thread

Better than Shitzpatrick, Keenum, and Savage. But hey Clowney had that one tackle for a loss.

I'm sure the Texans could have traded up for Manziel if they wanted to. He fell far enough for it to happen. Could have had Clowney and Manziel potentially, but there is no way of knowing that for sure.

the previous hit he took on the zone read keeper might've had something to do with it...

I believe that Shanahanahanahanahahanahanahan also chewed him out on the sidelines (on camera) after he got hit doing that as well.

After last night's debacle at QB if Manziel dethrones Hoyer I say we trade for Hoyer. He looked decent last night, and much better than the turds we have at QB.

I doubt the Browns would trade for him. My biggest worry with Johnny was that he seems likely to get injured relatively quickly (look at his time at A&M, with less contact than he'll see in the NFL). I've been travelling, and missed both his game and the Texans' (sounds like that was a good thing!), but several people have mentioned him taking some hits in the game. The Browns need to have a solid backup in place even if they slot Manziel first.

Browns/Lions highest rated NFL preseason game ever.

It ain't just us that's obsessed with the guy.

Nope, not just us. According to the NFL, Manziel is the top selling jersey right now (Manziel scores as NFL’s top-selling jersey).

I think jersey sales are one of the primary factors in what determines media coverage. The media gives fans what they want to drive ratings (ala Tim Tebow).

I just wish the country would buy more JJ Watt jerseys! :D

I think you're a little too invested in the career of Johnny Football Doc.

Let it go. He's not a Texan & that's all that matters.

cNd is an NFL fan (like all of us), and Manziel is one of the flavors of the month right now. I think this place is a lot like a local bar with a bunch of guys sitting around talking football. I do not sense an emotional investment in Manziel by the good doc, but maybe a bit of potential schadenfreude in many of us. ;)

Let me put it this way... has Manziel given us any reason to believe that he doesn't listen to his coaches?

If not & someone makes a statement alleging that Manziel does not listen to his coaches is too emotionally involved in a player that is not tied to the Houston Texans.

Other than holding onto the football like a loaf of bread well away from his body, not sliding, defiant continuation of his celebrations and not following his progressions as the plays are designed?

GM asked Manziel to tone it down and the next week he's back in the headlines after partying with Justin Beiber, having the cops called...twice....

Then says he's not changing for anyone...

So, Hoyer will start PS game #2, but Manziel will get some 1st team snaps, too.

Also, heard on espn that Manziel was late to a meeting on Monday.

Brian Hoyer vs. Johnny Manziel and 4 other things to watch in Browns vs. Redskins
1. Brian Hoyer vs. Johnny Manziel: Hoyer will start the game and Manziel will come in off the bench, but Pettine hopes to get them equal reps with the starters in the first half. Problem is, Redskins coach Jay Gruden might play his starters only about a quarter, and if that's the case, it will foil Pettine's plans to see both quarterbacks against a starting defense for a significant number of snaps.

Hoyer will need to display better accuracy than in Detroit, where he completed only 6-of-14 attempts for 42.9 percent. In his first live action since tearing his ACL, Hoyer moved well, but overthrew two receivers inside the 20 and had two dropped inside the 10. He also produced two field goals in his three drives, but failed to put a TD on the board despite a first down at the Detroit 9. Manziel will also need to try to produce a touchdown, show that he can throw well from the pocket, and not get hit as much. He was drilled about four times in Detroit, and won't survive long with that much of a pounding.

I'm not much for taunting or poor sportsmanship, but I have to admit, I really enjoyed that one by the Redskins player.

Bad throw by Manziel, then poor pocket and indecisive...

Looked like he wanted to pull one of those college moves, but Kerrigan was having none of that...

That was some exciting action there...

Browns are beefy up front on defense...Skins couldn't run it straight at them and get an inch...

Hell of a job by Morris reaching out

With this new holding penalty the NFL has, a quarterback could play awful and still get first downs.

Manziel not looking very accurate...

Short, making bad throws falling backwards...

NFL defense a little bit faster...harder to get the edge on those zone reads...DB's are also better...Can't just fall off your back foot and throw prayers anymore...

That too.

If the games are called like this in the regular season I'm not watching any NFL games...Maybe the Texans occasionally, but this is more unbearable to me than the NBA...

I can't stomach teams just moving down field based on weak ass calls. Teams are in 3rd and 18 situations...Get a 5 yard holding penalty...automatic first...rinse repeat...

Yeah, it seems to take out the flow of the game.

this is the killer for me. like everyone else, i'm tired of seeing a flag on every play for nothing more than basic contact. the killer though is an automatic first down for these ticky-tack 5 yard penalties. the free set of downs needs to be removed ASAP.

So far neither QB looks good. Alternating series isn't good for Hoyer or for Manziel. Can't establish rhythm or pocket presence.

I thought the same thing when I saw him make the completion.

Manziel reminds me a lot of Keenum in being oblivious to the blitz right in front of his face pre-snap.

He had that problem in college. Happy feet, throwing with poor form...ect...

He's got a long way to go, but good news is he's still young with an offense that suits his skill set.

Is he going to get fined for that?

Not a good sign....letting guys get to him in a pre season game.

Not sure but he has that spoiled punk look on his face that is just begging to get punched.

If my mind wasn't made up before, I will just say now that I am going to enjoy watching him fail.

Defensive players are going to be licking their chops at the chance to pound his stupid ass.

I wouldn't have thought it was possible for a rookie who hasn't even reached the regular season yet to be the most hated player in the league by the other players, but he is making it happen.

What a douche. I'm glad he left A&M early. We don't need his kind around College Station. Guess that's the younger mindset though.

We can't stop talking about him... we try to look away, but can't. We're under his spell.

Connor Shaw played really nicely when coming in late, and might have missed the mental battering that Hoyer and Mr Football have gone under.

Three way starting QB controversy anyway?

Right back at ya Johnny.

He's a lock for the VY Award for the player that everyone wants to see fail.

And of course .........he does something not related to his play on the field that's gonna extend the nonstop coverage on this chump for another week....just when i thought that this Manziel crap was finally gonna start dying down :vincepalm:

"I need to be smarter about that." And the other thing too, and that other other thing as well. This is only the 5th or 6th time that we've heard him say this in regards to his sideshow BS and we are only in preseason after two years of college ball. I'm sure it's something he'll "learn from and we will go from there."
