All Encompassing Andre Johnson Thread (Just got some disturbing news about A Johnson)

Not open for further replies.
AJ is under contract. He will be on the Texans this season.

Let's not over-estimate his value to this team's chances to win, however. This is football, not basketball. Look at the team's recent history. In the Texans' best season (2011), Andre Johnson was almost irrelevant due to injuries. Last year, AJ was healthy and productive, yet the Texans had a hideous season.

If AJ retired or forced a trade due to his frustration, it would be understandable and disappointing. However, it would not do extensive damage to the Texans chances this season and certainly not moving forward into 2015 (the cap savings for a declining athlete like AJ would likely make the team better).

You'd think Andre Johnson of all people would know that this isn't a 2-14 roster and that a bunch of **** had to go wrong at once for us to be that bad last year. SMFH.

Unfortunately you can only rep a post once...

Some of the talk of the 'rebuild' is kind of annoying me. This upcoming season is far, far from a write off, and to even compare this 2-14 team to the last one is madness. We have NFL-leading talent at multiple positions.

I honestly think that AJ has as much of a chance of winning a Superbowl in the next 3 year in Houston as he does of winning one anywhere else.

You'd rather see him on the Patriots?

What the **** kind of person are you?

If Andre Johnson ever wore a Patriots uniform, I'd probably stop watching football.

Get ready to stop watching then. If he goes to another team, that's the only one I picture him on. :)

Andre has been a good servant, but ultimately I root for laundry.

If he is going to be a distraction and put himself before the team, why do we want him here?

Trade him to the Colts.

That way Texan fans can still see him 2 times a year and he'll still play in reliant every year of his career.

The problem with this team last year (and this year) is that there are only unknown's or journeymen for our QB's. I think the only way this gets remedied is if we are terrible again this year and the current crop of college QB's don't get ripped to shreds by the draft process (they will).

I'm hoping OB and Rick can sit down with him and show him how this is not a 2-14 team.

I'm also hoping that Andre at his age is just not interested in any of the offseason work anymore and is looking for a reason to miss as much of it as he can afford finewise.

IMO, AJ is just blowing off some steam and expressing his frustration with the Texans. I think he'll be back next season.

610am was saying that even if AJ were to be traded he'd still be a 12m cap hit to the Texans for next season. Any capologist here that can explain that?

If he wants to retire, because I think that's the only way he's not a Texan next year, then bye and have a good life. No player is bigger than the team. He'd also have to pay back alot of signing bonus money.

Also there's some folks on the first couple pages of this thread that owe Mussop an apology. It seems his disturbing news turned out to be true.

I don't see how in the world you could force him to play here if his head is not in it. If this is where he's at, I don't see anything that could possibly change it. And from a coaching staff point of view, having him still on the team would be poisonous.

I don't blame him. At all. Nobody should. All he wanted to do was win. And unlike most other players, he let his play do the talking.

But I think he's done enough for the Texans organization, that they should just release him from the team, so he can go somewhere that has a chance of getting a ring before he hangs it up.

He's done enough how? He hasn't done anything he wasn't paid for and paid well. It's a job it's not like he was doing charity work for free.

Sent from the future...

I agree with you to a degree. The QBs were an issue last year (although with injuries, coaching, mentality and Kubiak's health stuff also played considerable parts).

I think most of those issues may well have been fixed (the injuries and coaching specifically).

The QB situation, with the group of players that we have is, in my opinion, managable this season, and promising for next season. Fitzpatrick may be going into a season as a starter with the best group of receivers/tight ends he has ever had in the NFL (assuming AJ is playing for us) - and even as a game manager could take us to the playoffs with a low-turnover ratio year. Savage is likely a work in progress this year, and could be a 2nd year starter, if Fitzpatrick doesn't work out in year one with us.

Might as well tell what I know now. I sent three people the short version. This is the whole version minus who told me this information. I would appreciate the people I told not make it public who told me this.

There was a team meeting a few days before the draft. I don't know if it was a mandatory meeting or who was all there, I just know that it was a team meeting. Before the meeting A Johnson pulled D Hopkins to the side and told him "it's time for you to step up and become the man now. I don't think have it anymore and I'm thinking about getting out". Then A Johnson entered the meeting and announced his feelings to his team mates and coaches.

I asked my friend what AJ meant by "don't have it anymore". He said the energy to go through another rebuild at this point in his career. At least that's how he took it. Said he didn't press too much for more information.

The guys I PMed can verify this minus the team meeting. I didn't mention the meeting part to them. Wanted to keep it short.

I can't really look at the current roster and think "promising". At best we are hoping that Fitzpatrick has an anomaly year where he doesn't turn the ball over a whole bunch, or we are hoping Keenum does a hell of a lot better this year than he did last year. The promising part may be Tom Savage, but that's about the equivalent of hitting a half court shot in basketball, he's basically a prayer for the Texans and not much more. Not to twist the knife or anything but the Browns actually have a decent stable of QB's that I am slightly envious of (as I type this with clenched teeth). Hoyer was pretty decent for the 2 games he played in last year, a guy named Johnny Football, and a guy like Fitzpatrick in Thigpen who has bounced around the league.

I like the Amish Rifle as a man, but as a football player he really doesn't (and shouldn't) strike fear into the hearts of opposing teams. I think the offense is probably going to take a year or so to untangle itself from the mountain of **** that was 2013, this is why I don't have much hope for this season. I honestly hope that they don't win more than 4 to 6 games next season so that we have a decent draft pick, much more so than possibly winning 9 or 10 and sneaking into the playoffs in the 6th seed.

Yeah, because that makes sense how?

Manziel is a Brown, if you've got that much of a hard on for him become a Brown's fan.

Nothing makes this fan base truly stupid like local QBs.

Which part doesn't make sense?

And notice I said Manziel AND Bridgewater. My point was the Texans need a franchise QB. They obviously didn't love Garoppolo (sp?) or Carr, otherwise they have taken them at 2-1. So why not take the risk, trade the necessary picks, and grab either your favorite of Manziel or Bridgewater, two guys that were both talked about as #1 picks.

As for rooting for the Browns, I'm already on my way to doing just that.

Dude has had the misfortune of being on two 2-14 teams. That's got to wear you down when your body is taking so much punishment.

And about rebuild, of course it is right now. Who is the starting QB? The Texans have four clipboard holders on the roster right now.

His words remind me a bit of the attitude that Barry Sanders expressed when he was done. Another fantastic player that stayed with one crappy franchise for too long.

None of us can relate to what these pro athletes do to compete and what goes through their minds. Some of y'all can judge him for it, but I'm just going to thank him for being a Texan regardless of what happens. I look forward to seeing #80 retired in the rafters at NRG one day.

Is this all we're going to hear this year?

"Wahhhhhh why are the Texans winning? Wahhhhh I want them to lose so we get a high draft pick wahhhhhhhhh"

Yeah let's breed a losing mentality. Yeah. That'll keep Andre Johnson and later JJ Watt here. Yeah. Good idea bros.

Thank you for this.

BTW: I believed you from the jump. You never know who knows who. I have a good friend who is very good friends with a Texans player, and had the chance to hang out with this well-known Texans player. Had fun. We talked about a lot of stuff regarding the team, and he dropped some inside info. (No, I'm not going to reveal who it is, but, if someone wants to PM me, I may give more info).

I am not friends with this player; but, a good friend of mine is, and if I wanted inside info on the Texans, I can likely get it fairly quickly.

Anyway, mussop, thanks again.

Quick somebody photoshop a pic of A Johnson in a Patriots uniform!!!!!!!

He didn't promise to quit posting here though....

He quoted this post:

Idiot Texans. Can't blame him at all. Probably wouldn't be happening if Texans had done the smart thing and traded up for Johnny Manziel. Who can blame him having Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing him the ball next season.

I hope we trade him to a winning organization. He deserves it.

Don't see Bridgewater in it, do you? Has your Browns Manziel jersey not come yet?

As someone who grew up in Michigan and watched the Lions waste Barry Sanders, yep, this is almost exactly the same scenario. Barry now says he quit at his peak because he didn't want to do long term damage to his health, but, I don't buy it. I think he just got sick of losing.

Its funny how these veterans always wait till after the draft to start bitching about their contracts, or the direction of the team. They know they have the advantage then and will more often than not get what they are asking for.

Or he was hoping like many of us the Texans would try and draft a franchise QB. They didn't, so he finally lost his cool.

You're correct. But, there's nothing wrong with him looking back, and re-assessing whether the money was worth it. He probably could have gotten paid nearly equal amounts and gone to a better team by now.

I just think he's doing some serious career soul-searching.

Yes, we've paid him well, but, we've also taken him for granted, too.

Tell me who has taken AJ for granted?

Certainly not the Texans org.

Can you play football like Andre Johnson can? Who are you to say he's acting like a child when his skillset is one of only a few people on the entire planet possess? Because he's that talented, teams are willing to compensate him with those millions of dollars, and that has absolutely zero to do with how he feels about his current employment.

I'm guessing there's a little bit of jealousy here with this post.
You think he's PO'd enough to walk away from all of that money and be a FA or just retire ? No I think he just wants to complain. And of course I wish I could play ball like him and make all of that money, who wouldn't ?

He quotes this post:

Don't see Bridgewater in it, do you? Had your Browns Manziel jersey not come yet?

Thanks for the correction. It WAS what I was thinking but when I typed my initial response to this, I only included Manziel's name (since obviously that's who I wanted more).

And I don't buy jerseys.

Notice I wasn't whining about the Texans winning games that haven't been played, I was only stating my hopes for the season. Unless some godly FA quarterback falls into our laps, I'm going to have to hope that the Texans are picking high enough to get a good one in pretty much every draft. Last year showed that we really have a lot of holes on our roster, and I'm not of the mind that all those holes were patched up peachy keen in one offseason, sorry buddy.

Hopefully he can buy into a defense that should be stout and hopefully a little ground and pound on offense.
Yes we didn't get a qb but I do like our haul this years.

Id hate to see him go but if his heart isnt in it here. The best thing we can do is se if a trade would be in the works. Honestly id like to see Aaron rogers chunking him the ball

Meaning: always assuming that Andre will re-structure his contract, or that he'll be a good little soldier and play along, or that he will sacrifice for the team.

Again, yes, we've paid him well, but, we have also mis-used his talent.

Just to clarify, the restructures AJ has done have always been in his favor. Getting more guaranteed money right away is always in the player's favor. It's not a sacrifice of any kind.

Not that I don't think that AJ has been a good soldier and a great professional.

You think he's PO'd enough to walk away from all of that money and be a FA or just retire ? No I think he just wants to complain. And of course I wish I could play ball like him and make all of that money, who wouldn't ?

Well maybe if you could ball like him, you could show him how to act (laffo) like a pro and I'm sure you wouldn't have any ego whatsoever with how you conducted yourself.

People who bring up how much a particular athlete makes whenever said athlete makes a statement they don't like are a special kind of stupid and seem like they have no actual awareness of what goes on outside of their personal little bubble. There's no point in bringing up how much Andre Johnson makes when discussing comments he's made to the media because it is a strawman argument that sounds like you just want to rail against all those "overpaid athletes".

I must have missed the apology to Mussop. For all the flack he got from some.

Btw is AJ goes I will blame you 100% Mussop ;)

Well it's a shame that you'd ever buy into the garbage about losing to get high draft picks to make your team better. Where this narrative came from in recent years, I have no idea. It's infecting every sport and every fan base. There are teams across all sports with incredibly rich histories of winning who had people around them hoping they lost on purpose. Pathetic, wretched losers.

But hey, if you want to root for losses, that's your choice. It's a free country. For a while, anyway.

I believe our future first ballot HOF inductee has earned every right to let off a little steam every now and then, just as every fan has at the game when they boo or jeer.

It's the circle of life, Simba.

Yeah, I probably could.

What are you guys gonna do when I move to Houston and come to tailgates and stuff? Are you guys going to act like 7 year old girls because I cuss? Or will I not be invited because I cuss? Man, not much Texas hospitality there, if so. Not very impressive from big, bad Texans. I thought you guys were tougher than that. Is that just a narrative? Are you guys, in fact, unable to handle someone who cusses? Weren't you the one who offered me work in Houston through a PM a while back, anyway? Boy, I bet you're thanking those lucky stars that never materialized because I'm such a profane individual, huh. PHEW!

Man. Everything I've ever heard about Texas and its citizens appears to be wrong. Talk a big game but get your g-strings in a bunch over profanity. What a bunch of vaginas.

AJ just needs to follow through on his committments, we paid him a lot of money when we really didn't have to. He needs to get over it and get to work. Winning fixes a lot.

The Texans should just let a pro bowl WR go and take the cap hit? Man I'm glad that you're not running the Texans org.

Yeah, I don't agree that we should just let him go. I feel for him but I recognize that the NFL is a business. We should look to trade him if he asks for it, see if we can pick up a good draft pick or a young player at a position of need.

I asked @Jason_OTC from overthecap.com on why there is a difference between his and spotrac's #'s on AJ's contract for 2014. He said he'd check the numbers but thinks that Andre has likely earned a $3.5MM escalator for 2014, pushing his base to $10MM.

Most people can understand why AJ would feel this way, and they also understand that it's in the Texans' best interest to keep the man unless they can trade him away for a ton of assets. If you're an AJ fan first, you want to see him go somewhere to win a championship. If you're a Texans fan first, you want the team to do what's best for them, regardless what name is on the back of the jersey.

I love talking about players as much as the next guy, but it's all in the context of what the name on the back of the jersey can do for the name on the front.

Yeah, I probably could.
