Jeremiah Attaochu

Attaochu recorded a 36.5” vertical, which would have been eighth best for his position.

Attaochu also ran an impressive 40. He was clocked by scouts around 4.55. However, his 1.55 10 yard split was far more impressive as it would be the best time for any defensive end or outside linebacker in the Combine. That was the first time Attaochu had run the 40 at full speed since tearing his hamstring.

“I’m getting a lot of great feedback,” Attaochu said. “The league is split half and half between the 3-4 and 4-3 defense. Being a pass rusher who can cover and rush the passer very well, that plays to both types of defenses. The league is becoming more versatile and they need guys like me who can stand up and rush the passer or put their hand on the ground and do it.”

I could live with Attaochu or ASJ.

I like Attaochu. He has the same "violent" play as Clowney. His 40 was probably still affected by the fact that he was still rehabbing a torn hamstring. He also is rehabbing a hand injury. Earlier in 2011, he missed several games due to a lower leg injury. But had no further injury history until the Senior Bowl. As long as the the hamstring doesn't become a recurrent problem, he should end up being a heck of a NFL player.

This would only be OK with me if the Texans org traded down and stockpiled picks/future picks and rebuilt their team properly.

Do you really have faith in the Texans org being savvy enough/or caring enough to pull something like this off?

Very violent play-style which I like to see in a pass-rusher.

Concerns that I have..

1. Injuries - Does the FO clear him on them?
2. Tends to get up the field so fast that he'll run himself right around and out of the play. (Flashbacks of Brooks and Mercilus)

With his injury he'll probably be there in the 2nd. Depending on who we took #1, will we look at him @ #33 or move up from the 3rd round back into the 2nd?

A. Has a quicker first step than Clowney.

B. Has more sacks in college than Julius Peppers, Mario Williams and Jadevon Clowney.

IMHO will have a better NFL career than Clowney. I think the mass sports media gets Clowney wrong like they got Reggie Bush wrong.

The question should be could the Texans trade Mercilus for a 3rd rd pick and select Attaochu, who I think will be available in the 3rd rd?

Clowney/Cushing/Reed/Attaochu looks pretty good to me and then you could pick Garappolo in the 2nd and JuWaun James in the 3rd and have a much improved team.

BTW, I don't think the Mallett rumors are done yet.

I'm not 100% sure Attaochu gets out of the 1st RD and if he does I would bet he would go early in RD2.

If the FO decides to go QB first overall and want to address OLB/DE in the second, Attaochu is my favorite for that pick.

much higher priority imo than OLB in 2nd. DE? I'd take Tuitt.

While I completely understand this line of thinking, and on some days even agree with it, I would totally support Attaochu at 2.1 over Tuitt simply because a stud at OLB fixes 2 positional needs by moving Reed inside. Tuitt at 2.1 would be sweet as well.

Clowney 1.1 then Tuitt 2.1 case resolved.
