Blake Bortles

I'll always remember people talking about Sam Bradford having the best pro day workout they've ever seen. His results so far? Not too impressive. Vince Young had an incredible pro day workout. Result? Bankrupt...... If a guy can't look good throwing against air then he probably has no business even being discussed in the first round.

What if the air is fighting back? ie: Wind

You still need to be able to make most throws even against chaotic wind conditions. I want to say it was Andre Luck who threw on a windy pro day. He didn't exactly look GREAT on deep throws from all reports, but he was sharp on short to intermediate passes. A QB has to be able to battle heavy wind conditions in order to be considered as a franchise QB in my view. The environment won't always be perfect so the great ones are able to adjust.

I will cover Blake Bortles pro day at UCF in Orlando Wednesday. I'm looking forward to spending some time with possible top pick.

I hear you, good stuff.

I was joking more than anything. It was a bad joke, sorry.

Blake Bortles/QB/UCF has already met extensively with the Texans, Jaguars, Raiders & Vikings today prior to Wednesday's pro-day...

I've been doing my best to prepare for the possibility of this happening, but I just can't see it. I know O'Brien may like Bortles, but I think Rick Smith will be basically signing his walking papers with him at 1.1.

Not that he's bad, but we're probably a 6 win team if he's asked to start next year and Smith is probably looking for another job. Its very possible they decide to go that route, but I just can't see it.

Well now that's a good reason to pick Bortles. If that's the case, sign me up for the Bortles Bandwagon!

It will definitely let me know who has the power with this that's for sure. Ricky might as well start packing his bags if Bortles name is called come draft time.

Actually...

I haven't really brought this up before even though it's been rattling around in my head but...

We ditched Capers and McNair let Casserly hang on until after the draft.

McNair has said he doesn't want to fire coaches during the season. I wonder if he has the same problem with firing a GM? Since the GM's job is drafting the players, I wonder if he considers a GM's "season" to end when the draft is done.

If so, regardless of what happens, McNair may fire Rick after the draft, just like he did Casserly.

Half the board is thinking we're in rebuild mode & do not expect 6 wins. If we start Bortles from day 1 & get 6 wins..... most would consider that a success.

What the fluck???

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL

It's a security measure.

They don't want a bunch of lawsuits from journalists who would be blinded and brain-warped by the AWESOMENESS THAT IS BORTLES!!!!

you do not understand what you're messing with here...

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL

So we'll have to rely on leaked info on how his pro day went?

edit: That seems to conflict with this:

* Several national media outlets are in attendance and will be in the workout, including ESPN, NFL Network, Fox Sports, NBC Sports and NFL Films. The Jacksonville Jaguars will also be broadcasting live from the workout on their website.

There's a buttload of media who traveled from all over the country there with A/V equipment & crews in tow... and UCF doesn't forewarn them they won't be allowed in???

What are they afraid of? #becausefootballisn'tplayedinfrontofcrowds [IMGwidthsize=30]http://www.texanstalk.com/forums/images/smilies/hankpalm.png[/IMG]

Do you think Manziel's people will be hiding his Pro Day from the world?

Somebody in Bortles' camp needs to rethink this decision.

All eyes, of all decision makers and those who need to be there, will be there.

i

You know he's going to throw it when you see that tongue

UCF Pro Day player to watch: Blake Bortles
...Bortles led UCF on six second-half comebacks in 2013, tied for the most in the FBS. When trailing in the second half, Bortles had a 89.6 Total QBR, which ranked second in the FBS behind Teddy Bridgewater (92.3) and just ahead of Johnny Manziel (88.8)

Overall, Bortles was more effective after halftime than in the first half of games, posting an 82.4 Total QBR in the second half, a 74.0 in the first half last season.

Bortles also had a nice touch on his deep throws. He completed 50 percent of his throws that traveled 20 or more yards downfield, tied with Oregon's Marcus Mariota for the second-highest percentage among quarterbacks from automatic-qualifying conferences last season. Only Tajh Boyd of Clemson fared better (54.7 percent)...

Just out of curiosity, have you ordered your Blake Bortles Texan Jersey yet or going to wait to see how he does today?

The responsible thing to do is wait and remain objective! That said I think that the #8 has worn out it's welcome in Houston. Another # at QB will be a refreshing change for many and that would apply to Bortles, Bridgewater and Manziel.

They let the General in after all...

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL
I'm inside Nicholson Fieldhouse watching UCF players run 40s after weightlifting. All eyes on Blake Bortles. Waiting for him to throw.

Dave Zangaro ‏@DZangaro
Watching the Blake Bortles pro day online right now. Looks like the kid's got a bald spot on the back of his head. Undraftable.

After going through game tapes of Blake, I am VERY anxious to see how he performs today. Im very convinced he struggles with accuracy throwing left. Waiting to see how he does today in this aspect.

James Palmer ‏@JPalmerCSN 3m

So much for a closed pro day. #fakeout RT @osknights: By the way, all media is in this pro day.

I saw McClain in the jags live feed.

NFL Network ‏@nflnetwork 12s

RIGHT NOW: Mike Mayock and @PaulWBurmeister checking in LIVE from @UCF_Football's Pro Day.

Bortles stretched his arm with a rubber tubing harness, now warming up with some easy throws waiting for go time. Calm, not doing any strange stuff like Cam was at his pro day.

I'm looking for him to take the 33 1/3 up to 45 rpms -- do everything a little bit quicker. Watching for him sticking that tongue out, too. :fingergun:

You couldn't be more spot on. He's almost automatic when throwing to his right. Talent really falls off when throwing to his left. Throws are sporadic when going left.

He's missing some throws...Overthrowing guys...I saw a ball in the turf...

But I wouldn't take him based on his game film...Not at the top of the draft...I'd take Bortles in like the 2nd round and hope he could be coached up...

One of the balls he threw in the dirt was on a short comeback to his right..

I like his athleticism and size though. You can easily see he's athletic from the way he moves around. Good arm strength too.

I'm so right eyed dominant that I can shoot a basketball good if I'm left of the key but kinda stink to the right because my left eye isn't so hot .

He missed on like 4 throws...

But looked good overall.

Reading through John McClain's tweets it doesn't appear as glowing. Basically McClain is saying he was inaccurate quite a bit, but he WR's were making some good catches.

I wanted to look good in shorts because I've always been the kind of guy who looks better in practice and in games. It's probably why I wasn't recruited highly out of high school because, I would go to those Quarterback Combines and just look average.

Bortles confident enough to challenge Mayock on air about his deep ball.

I have been saying since November that the difference that separates Bortles from the rest of the pack is his ability to remain cool, calm and collected in pressure situations and how well he is able to direct 2nd half comebacks and game winning drives. I saw nothing today that would change my opinion. In fact it was a good workout. He did overthrow a few deep balls but Bortles admitted that some of the knocks on him was a few throws on film where he under threw a deep WR. He quickly pointed out to Mayock that he did not under throw any passes today.

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL 34m

Ron Jaworski "On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give him a ten today. He was well-prepared and made every throw."

Mayock is giving Kiper Jr a run at biggest BS Draftnik out there. I get better info here than from those two morons.

Matt Schaub remained calm, cool, collected, and highly Eeyore-ish his entire career ...
