Ray Rice arrested in Atlantic City

Ravens running back Ray Rice was arrested over the weekend after an alleged physical altercation involving his fiancee at a casino in Atlantic City, according to his attorneys.

Rice’s attorney Andrew Alperstein confirmed Rice was charged and released after what he described as allegations of a “very minor physical altercation” with a woman he identified as Rice's fiancee at Revel Casino on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

Rice, 27, was released on his own recognizance, Alperstein said.

According to Ravens director of public relations Chad Steele: "We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancee. We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained."

If I were famous I'd live by the Derek Jeter playbook. That guy has truly been living the dream. Banging hot chicks, staying out of trouble, and just enjoying the fruits of his labor. I'm sure at time he wishes he would've had kids, but 9 men out of 10 would kill to be him for a day.

I forgot what the post was all about for a second, but Ray Rice should call Jeter for advice!

On the surface it doesn't look good for Rice, but its hard to make much of a judgement right now without knowing all the facts. I would think that if he hit her there would have been significant damage done to her physically? Did he choke her out? Domestic violence is never OK in any circumstance, but still a ton of questions that are unanswered at this point.

Yeah, she could have been passed out from drinking... but it sure looks bad.

It's being reported that he knocked her out; LINK

Ray Rice knocked fiancee out

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice struck his fiancée with his hand, rendering her unconscious, according to a summons obtained by ESPN.

Rice and his fiancée were both arrested for simple assault after an incident early Saturday at a casino in Atlantic City, N.J. Rice and the woman "struck each other with their hands," according to an Atlantic City police report.

Someone should explain to him the difference between hitting the hole hard and hitting your hoe hard.

It should be pretty easy to determine if she was knocked out or was super drunk, but either way he clearly fumbled the situation.

USA Today added this at the bottom of their blurb on the video, where Rice's lawyer is apparently attempting to paint it in a better light than the video shows...
Rice signed a five-year, $35 million contract in July 2012 that included $22 million in guarantees. But he's coming off a remarkably unproductive season in which he rushed for just 660 yards on 214 carries and scored four touchdowns.

He's scheduled to make $4 million in base salary in 2014 with a cap number of $8.75 million. If the Ravens cut him, they'd have $14.25 million in dead money to account for over the next year or two, depending how they'd designate his release.

Man, his image is going to take a nosedive if she was unconscious from being hit. Absolutely no excuse for this behavior, if that's what happened.

She looked drunk as Cooter Brown in the video. My first thought was that he was picking up a passed out woman, as this is something I had to deal with on numerous occasions with my ex. She never knew her limits, and I always had to deal with the messes she left behind while babysitting her drunk stupid self.

I had the same exact experience, but it is hard to tell with the video. Upon seeing it the first time, I assumed that she was wasted, but I might be projecting.

yeah, me, too, about projecting. Not having any experience with a knocked out woman, I can only draw from my own life with alcoholic fools.

Source says police have yet-to-be-released video of Ray Rice knocking fiancée unconscious before dragging her. Expect a suspension.

He could take a dump on her head.
I have no response to this.

Ravens RB Ray Rice was indicted today on one count of aggravated assault. Carries a 3-5 year prison term

Just get Ray Lewis's lawyer, he'll end doing 6 months probation, Max.

It is possible to support the player without condoning the action.

Ray has done a lot of good work in the community; he came to my kids high school (my alma mater) and spoke for 90 minutes, then signed autographs for another 90 until the gym was empty.

Again, not condoning the action but supporting the player and the man.

Don't know the whole story but didn't she punch him first? Not saying that gives him the right to hit her back, but from what I had heard she started the assault.

Yeah... unless she was built like him, it wouldn't matter in my mind.

Really lost all respect for Ray as well as like for him seeing that video and hearing about this. :(

Oh, this is sweet... if she's my wife she won't testify against me!

RB Ray Rice got married Friday night to Janay Palmer. Ceremony had been planned for couple of weeks. Got indicted Thursday, married Friday.

Rumor is after an appearance on WWE they'll honeymoon in Madison Square Garden and then take up residence in the Baltimore County Courthouse.

Peyton's Head ‏@PeytonsHead
Do you think Ray Rice served punch at the wedding reception?

Doug Gottlieb ‏@GottliebShow
Ray Rice just got married? I give the marriage 3 to 5 years

Faux John Madden ‏@FauxJohnMadden
Ray Rice married his fiancé on Friday. He finished the evening by dragging his wife over the threshold.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...avens-pleads-not-guilty-eyes-pretrial-program
Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice pleaded not guilty to a third-degree charge of aggravated assault and applied for a pretrial intervention program Thursday morning in Mays Landing, N.J.

The pretrial intervention program is a diversion program that permits certain defendants (particularly first-time ones) to avoid formal prosecution.

If Rice is not approved for the program, his next court date is scheduled for May 29. Prosecutors have offered a plea agreement in which Rice would receive probation with no jail time and undergo anger-management counseling.

All kidding aside, the NFL should make a statement about violence against women here.

Sure, he's not found guilty, but even with just the appearance of guilt, the NFL should "suspend him" "temporarily ban him from team activities" or something like that. No reason to even give the appearance of "stand by your guy" in a situation like this.

Unless they already have & I forgot about it.

So Ravens RB Ray Rice now will miss opening games against AFC North foes Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.

NFL is suspending Ravens RB Ray Rice for the first two games this season, per sources. The suspension is expected to be announced today.

Looks like Rice is going to be given only 2 game suspension. If true, something's terribly wrong with the NFL's values placed on the acts leading to determination of suspension severity.

Last month I interviewed NFL head of HR. Robert Gulliver told me, "We just simply don’t tolerate instances of domestic violence."

Taking Aderall with a perscription but failing to fill out the paperwork with the league gets you four games. Knocking out a woman? Two.

Tom Pelissero ‏@TomPelissero
Two-game ban for Ray Rice. I really want to know what else is on that tape.

Richard Deitsch @richarddeitsch
People should go off on the NFL for the Ray Rice non-punishment. The optics are horrible on the adjudication.

Chris Burke ‏@ChrisBurke_SI
Good thing Ray Rice didn't test positive for Adderall after punching his fiancee because then the league would be really mad.

Bart Hubbuch @HubbuchNYP
Greg Hardy's girlfriend never lost consciousness during her beating and strangling, so the NFL will only be suspending him 1 game.

I wonder if the NFL went easy on Ray Rice in part so their non-punishment of Irsay and Haslam won't look so bad in comparison.

List of NFL no-nos:
1. Free tattoos in college.
2. Smoking weed.
1,579. Beating women unconscious.

Reminder: The NFL suspended Terrelle Pryor for FIVE games for getting free tattoos in college.

Knock your girlfriend out cold: 2-game suspension.
Smoke weed: 4-game suspension.
NFL logic, ladies and gentlemen.

This deserves to be destroyed. Its optics, as Deitsch (one of my faves for media watching) said, are beyond appalling.

Goodell's official statement on the 2 game suspension/3 game $ loss:

“As you acknowledged during our meeting, your conduct was unquestionably inconsistent with league polices and the standard of behavior required of everyone who is part of the NFL,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a letter to Rice. “The league is an entity that depends on integrity and in the confidence of the public and we simply cannot tolerate conduct that endangers others or reflects negatively on our game. This is particularly true with respect to domestic violence and other forms of violence against women.”

Good job of maintaining the unblemished integrity of the NFL.

This is disgusting. The NFL should be ashamed. I lose my job if convicted of family violence. Misdemeanor or Felony! And this cat was arraigned on a THIRD DEGREE felony.

Really, really lame.

Do you see the key word difference in your sentences? - convicted v. arraigned.

I'm not fond of the NFL handing out punishment without a conviction except for the drug/alcohol issues the players agreed to.

Ok, let me rephrase. I lose my job for simply being arrested for domestic violence. Was he not convicted? And he got two games. Maybe "family violence" should be written into the CBA so that the punishment is harsher. This is WAY worse than smoking a little reefer, IMO.

Could God'ell be a phony?

Unfortunately we will never get to see the tape of what really happened in that elevator. I bet it was WEE worthy.
