Not greener, I just don't love any QB in this draft.
I think Brett Smith /Murray/Garrapolo have just as much talent/chance of being good as TB/Bortles/JM. So I certainly don't want a QB at 1-1.
I don't think we are a very far apart on this subject. I could be talked into taking BPA @ 1:1 or after a trade without it taking much convincing. I've said for a long time that I wasn't sure any of these QB's were franchise types.
The difference between my and Corrosion/BoB's thinking is that I think this team is a 3 yr rebuild. You certainly aren't going to be able to rebuild properly in 1 offseason. The Texans record may not show it next yr because I see a 9-7,7-9 type season due to SOS.
Im in agreement here as well , I don't see a quick fix. There were just too many issues and the QB spot wont be an overnight fix unless they steal one of the top 8 or players at the position in the NFL , none of whom are available and a rookie will take at least 1 and more realistically 2-3 years to reach "contender" status.
QB - Nuff Said.
LG - Wade Smith was bad and made Brown look bad
RT - Can we just cut Newton already ?!
RB - Foster was hurt every other minute , Tate's a goner.
WR - AJ was AJ but the rest of them did a buncha ... nuttin.
TE - OD hurt off and on with a $6m cap hit. Graham an FA.
DE - Ninja's an FA. Would like him back , still need depth at the position.
DT - Earl Mitchell's a JAG and FA.
ILB - Sharpton has spent more time on the trainers table than Texan Bill has at the (o)(o) bar. Cushing's been MIA for two years due to serious injuries. Mays is JAG - Sharpton & Mays are both FA's. I thought Tarpinian played pretty well .... this is another hole in the dike.
OLB - Brooks Reed & Mercilus might be a serviceable duo but they aint very dynamic.
CB - JJo hurt off and on. KJax played well. McCain was a joke. Harris ???
Positions that weren't in need of help woulda been a shorter list.
Safety - pending Manning is healthy. Manning , Swearinger & Keo are a good trio. I think Keo played solid last season for the most part.
LT - Brown isn't broken , he just had a doughnut next to him all season.
C - Myers wasn't a problem.
RG - Brandon Brooks wasn't all bad , chalk it up to experience.
McNair is delusional to think this is a quick fix especially with their current cap situation.
The thing is , I don't expect any rookie QB to come in this year or next and make this team a contender. I'd rather get that guy's rookie year behind him as that's the most difficult position to learn.
If you can trade back & still get one of the top three , great. If not there isn't a whole lot of talent separating those three with a few others later but the position needs to be addressed now not later.
No guarantee you have a shot at any of the top talent at the position in the next draft then you are in a situation where you are throwing multiple picks at a guy to move up.
