Texans hire Bill O'Brien as HC

Not a yes man, a baby sitter.

He did. He got rid of them. Sherman, Gibbs.

What Kubiak needed, was a boss. The GM on most other teams. Being that O'Brien is essentially a rookie, he needs a boss as well. :twocents:

I'm not talking about a GM, per se; though, yes, Gary did need a strong GM.

I'm talking about someone who, during the games, calls down to Gary yelling, "Throw the flag! Throw the flag!"

I'm talking about someone who says, "Gary, you have a problem on Special Teams. If you don't fix it, it's going to cost you a lot of games."

I'm talking about someone who says, "Gary, you can't just plug-and-play your way to wins. You have to adapt."

Technically, the GM should do MOST of those things. But, as we've established, Rick didn't have that kind of power.

Agree with everything here buddy. Glad to see that you are excited as I am about the new regime. :goodpost:

I'm not ready to annoint Bill O'Brien the best coach ever, like a lot of people on here, but, I am somewhat excited about this hire, the more I read about this guy and the more I hear.

He uttered the words "fast offense" the other day and I was damn-near salivating.

It's so amazing how unlike Kubiak this guy seems so far. Wow.

Agreed. I don't think that Smith is going to be that strong of a boss to this guy though. I'm just some fan on a computer, but just from my own observations of their character and approach. I feel like O'Brien is going to end up with a lot of control here that is similar to what Kubiak had especially if he has some early success and over achieves in Mcnair's eyes. Mcnair is the type that buys in pretty fast. The body language feels like Smith and Mcnair are really into this guy as well.

The second Bill O'Brien goes up to Indianapolis and wins a game, it's over. He will own this entire city.

Why? I don't give a **** about beating Indianapolis in Indianapolis unless it's in the playoffs. I'll be just as happy if we go to Denver, New England, Baltimore, or Pittsburgh or win there. I'll be happiest if we beat them at Reliant.

.....I just hope this isn't a situation like some Braves fans now find themselves in with manager Fredi Gonzalez. Folks were ecstatic to get a "new blood" manager and hyped Fredi up so much, and now fast forward two, three years and the very Braves fans who clamored for Fredi as the hire now loathe him. Probably a matter of the Perpetually Insatiable (tm), but my point is let's pump the brakes. It's nice to be excited but let the guy prove he's different before anointing him a savior. Sports have burned me too many times to get excited about anything until success actually happens. I can't get too up or down over any hiring until it unfolds on the field.

Of course that's going to happen here if O'Brien doesn't produce the results we want. That's life. No one but Jerry Jones "knew" Jimmy Johnson would win a Super Bowl, much less 2 (3). He was nothing like any Super Bowl winning coach before him.

No one but Bob Kraft "knew" Belichick would win a Super Bowl.

Where's the fun in that?

The fact that the fanbase is buzzing means that hope has been renewed . During the QB Dave era , I felt 6 and 10 record was as good as it was going to get . We were renewed by Schaub until the wheels fell off .

So just remain in fear then. After all a 2-14 season is much better than trying to improve that situation. You were terrified of losing Kubiak of all coaches for years. Maybe you should just follow Kubiak wherever he goes since you have such a fear that change could actually be for the better. I mean god forbid we actually do better than a 2 win season. Man, I had no idea we were taking such a risk.

So, the previous Braves manager, Bobby Cox, should not have been allowed to retire because fans can't handle change?

And, yes, beating Indy in Indy would be a big deal because WE HAVE NEVER DONE IT. Ever. I'm not saying we settle for that; I'm saying that would be a fun milestone for this franchise.

Some would rather lose than change. I'm officially befuddled.

Oh hey Texecutioner. Hey bro. Hope you're doing well. Say....you never replied to my post in a thread a few weeks ago. Why's that? Did you miss it? That'd be a shame if you did. Here, I'll post it again just for you....

I still don't get this whole "I wanted Kubiak here" thing. I've wanted Kubiak gone for ****ing years now. Just because I'm not a mouth-breathing idiot and I can discern where to assign blame for specific failings and don't spit repetitive fire about Kubiak doesn't mean I've wanted Kubiak here this whole time. I wanted him gone after 2010 at least. Maybe I have to go back through my posts and find them so that I can show people like you each and every ****ing time you bring up this idiocy about me wanting him here.

So. Exhausting.

EDIT: Ah hell, I did it. I went back and searched for all posts I've made with the term "Kubiak" in it. Here are all the ones that call for his firing, criticize him for decisions, blame him for the state of things, etc. It's time to settle this **** and silence this talking point against me once and for all.

Here you go, so you can take your "you've wanted Kubiak here this whole time!" **** and shove it up your ****ing asses. And I'm going to post it each and every single time someone continues to say it to me.

I have no fear whatsoever of coaching changes. I wholeheartedly supported the Suns' change at GM and coach this year but I didn't get excited until the results happened on the court. Two months in and there are results so hey, guess what, I'm ****ing excited about the Phoenix Suns. I just like to see things unfold before getting excited or mad. I've seen too many failed, overhyped draft picks and too many failed, overhyped coaching changes in my time watching sports. Sorry if I'm not about to react before having results to react to. And even with that said, maybe you'd like to check out my post in the "can we have a KC-like turnaround?" thread for my level of excitement at this coaching change.

The last part of my quoted post stands true. You've been clowned time and ****ing time again on this from me and you've yet to respond and yet you press on with your bull**** narratives. You are, without a shadow of a doubt, the biggest ******* on this board who shoves words into people's mouths like nobody I've ever seen before. **** you.

....as for other posts, no, Braves fans hating the change now has nothing to do with Cox leaving. Way to miss the point entirely on that.

I don't think it's about living in fear, but people are acting like BOB is the best thing since slice bread. The franchise is heading in a new direction which is something that we needed badly. But BOB still has a lot to prove first before being anointed the best thing since slice bread.

Oh hey, rational thought.

And FTF, it's not "OCD" about what someone thinks about me on a message board. It's about putting my thoughts on the record so a deliberately obfuscating piece of ****ing **** like Texecutioner has nothing else to say, and I'll keep posting that exact post every time he brings it up.

Ok, that gave me a seizure... OCD much over what someone thinks of you on Football boards? LOL

No one is saying that O'Brien is Coaching Jesus. We're just excited about change.

Nope some people just like to converse without every other word being a curse word. Or disagreeing with someone without going to the ****ing piece of **** card.

How old are you?

I'm younger than both you and Texecutioner, which makes it all the more shocking that both your and his reading comprehension skills have been severely lacking over the time I've "known" either of you.

There's disagreement, and there is deliberate obfuscation with every single post. I'm sick of it, and I'm going to call it out every single time I see it. If someone acts like a "****ing piece of ****" then I'll call them what they are.

And Spartan, why do **I** need to "chill"? Because I cuss when I post? How about telling the Perpetually Disingenuous to "chill"?

So I'm perpetually disingeneous too

Gotcha

And some see the difference between change for change's sake and change to improve. The jury is out, not back with a positive verdict.

At 2-14 and 8 yrs, I think the jury verdict has been reached. It's been past time for change. The new regime cant do worse. The Texans are the worst team in the league.

Apparently the only time BoB will change HC's is when his team is 2-14 staring at the 1st pick in the draft.

Those obsessed with cursing are usually linguistically and verbally challenged. Most respectable folk grow out of this phase shortly after Junior High.

We're not judging on whether it's time for change. That time has long come. OBVIOUSLY. That's CLEARLY not what is being questioned. That's DEFINITELY not what the jury is out about. hat's being questioned is anointing savior status to a guy who needs to prove it. I'm not the type to get excited about things like coaching, GM hires and draft picks until they give me reason to.

Clearly with this post I've quoted, yes, you ARE disingenuous too. Again, I find it bizarre that you're 51 years old and can't comprehend what people's points are on this. Someone who's, you know, established in life and has a wife and kids and all that shouldn't struggle to understand something to such an unfathomable degree.

Lets just say we will never understand each other. (Thank God) Yes, I'm excited about the new HC. I also agee with you the jury is and should be still out on BO'B. The proof is in the pudding. I'm certianly not anoiting anybody as a savior, except Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior.

My 2-14 BoB firing HC's stands, because that seems to be a trend. Point out how I'm being disingeneous IYO. Please do it without a bunch of cursing/childish name calling.

I'm comprehending things you're saying quite well. We just disagee and probaby always will, see how easy that is to comprehend.

Man if you can't get excited about wholesale changes like what's happening now then I guess one such as yourself should continue to wallow in your hate and misery.

I bet you're a real hoot around the christmas tree.

You're an obsessed stalker bro. That stuff was elementary. Just let it go. I'm worried about your blood pressure.

What was elementary? Their stupid narrative about me that's been going on for years now?

Steel, you're disingenuous because you think me wanting to pump the brakes a bit and reminding people to wait until success happens on the field before we assess this hire as a success means I never wanted change and I'm a "Kubiak Sunshiner" or some other stupidity along the same lines. And not only do you think that, you incessantly and intentionally obfuscate it. Well, either you're being deliberate in being disingenuous or you can't comprehend. Since you're saying you comprehend me fully, I guess that leaves being intentionally disingenuous as the only explanation.

I'm excited about a new coach. Been wanting one for a long while. Wholesale changes are great and necessary after continual failure.

I'll be super excited about Bill O'Brien if he lives up to billing though. That's that. I'll wait to see it all play out before anointing because I temper my expectations. Hell, if you see my post in the "can we do what KC did?" thread, I'm not even tempering my expectations all that much. I fully think we can make it back to the playoffs next year. Feels better when expectations are succeeded though. You'd think Houston sports fans would learn to do the same, given their run of awful luck. Guess not.
