Shanahan benching RG3 to start Kirk Cousins

I think Dan Snyder will permanently bench Mike Shanahan in about 3 weeks.

I'd bench RG3, too... even though it requires me to pick up another fantasy football QB. He's been off & on awful this year; sailing/diving passes, unnecessarily rushed reads, even inconsistent drops. His fundamentals are freelanced.

As far as Snyder, I'd throw gobs of money at Kubiak to come fix RG3. I don't think Gary would be dumb enough to go to work for Snyder, but...

Shanahan is intentionally trying to get fired but he wants that $7 million next year. I think he's acting like a baby. However, this is all Dan Snyder's fault. The second he empowered his QB over the head coach this team was doomed.

Shanahan destroyed RG3's career with rushing him back last year with a BARELY RECONSTRUCTED KNEE. The kid should have been allowed to recover, but that damned ShanaKubiak...

I believe this too. IMO Snyder is beyond furious over this, and Shanahan is coming across as a guy that knows he is being constructively dismissed, and making sure he gets his severance.

In the process, they may have destroyed a very promising career.

That organization's a mess. I kinda feel for the rest of the players. Sitting your best player for "safety" reasons, yet the rest of the team has to play on like all is hunky dory.

I know McNair ain't perfect, but I'm dang sure happy to have him running this organization over a lot of the other asshats for owners

So, if Cousins plays great, they are probably gonna trade one QB - would you be willing to trade for one? (our first pick for RG3 - or two 2nds for Cousins)?

No way I'd trade either one of those QBs if I'm Washington. Not yet. Need to see if RG3 can recover through offseason and getting OTAs/minicamp/training camp.

Plus looking like you'll have a new coach coming in -- let him decide.

I'm not seeing either analogy wrt this situation.

Dan Snyder loves RG3. Snyder wants RG3 to start, but Shanahan still insists on starting Cousins, which would probably cost Shanahan his job. Don't see something similar? Stubborn to a fault, just like Kubiak.

Shanahan got fired from Denver because the Owner told him to fire & replace his DC and Shanahan refused.

Stubborn? A bit.

I saw the PC at lunch and must say I'm pretty impressed with Cousins. I'm not sure he'll ever be an NFL starter, but he answered every question the heads shot at him like a champ.

Shanahan is trying his best to get fired he finally realized what a circus the organization is, but he is the cause of some of that too.

To all those wanting him to be our next coach I hope this shows you he is just an older version of Kubiak.

Shanahan's "reason" for benching RG3 is to avoid any further injury and make him fully available for next training camp. Shanny said him and Snyder agreed on it last week to bench RG3 for the remainder of the season.

My thought is they want to trade Cousins and in this 3 game audition they are hoping he can put up some numbers to raise his trade value. The redskins don't have a first round pick in the upcoming draft. Not saying Cousins is worth a 1st rounder, just making a point.

“I think that Dan felt last year - and Dan [Snyder] was aware of this by the way - that Mike was prepared at one point to walk away,” said Schefter. “Dan was aware. That’s not a surprise to him. He 100 percent knew that. How did he know that? I don’t know.”
...
“I can tell you 100 percent that Dan was aware of this,” said Schefter. “He was. I think his feeling was, Mike was overreacting and that things were gonna work out. Mike should basically continue to work hard and things should work out. Clearly they haven’t.”

The ESPN analyst also spoke about the relationship between Shanahan and Robert Griffin III.

“I think people know how RGIII feels about Mike,” he said. “And again, we can sugarcoat this all we want. We can dry to dress it up and call it ‘lukewarm.’ The bottom line is, he doesn’t like the coach and I don’t think he wants the coach here. Period. And we talked about this, the little triangle of power here in the organization, there are two guys on one side and one on the other. Two guys will win, one guy’s gonna lose. Although in this case, everybody loses.”

Also...

RGIIII's shutdown approved by Snyder, Shanahan says
Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan consistently drove home the point that he would not have benched Robert Griffin III if owner Daniel Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen were not "100 percent" on board.

Shanahan said he first broached the subject with Snyder and Allen before the 45-10 loss to the Chiefs in Week 14.

Per Shanahan, the three of them decided the best course of action was to give Kirk Cousins an opportunity to play so Griffin can go into the offseason healthy...

There's a lot of 100%s being tossed around... :clown:

Also, a great "oops" quote from Mike Shanahan: "I'm trying to be as honest as I can, and I don't normally do that."

My favorite part was when a reporter made a statement that alluded Shanahan consulting with Snyder about RGIII and asking if he did that with any other players and Shanny responded “Dan could care less about the other positions.”

Maybe true, but if you're one of the guys who plays the "other positions", do you want to hear your HC telling the world that's the way your owner feels?

At the rate this is going, Snyder is going to have to severely overpay his next coach, as his reputation is so bad that's the only way he will get anyone of consequence over there.

RG3 is the one people up there are paying to see not Kirk Cousins. And we thought we had it bad lol.
