NFLN or ESPN or what?

I need everyones opinion on this. NFLN the last I watched has turned into a steaming pile of dog **** and I've always hated ESPN with a passion. That doesn't leave me a whole lot to watch for football news and discussion coverage.
What do you guys watch? And why?

I personally like the NFLN. It's improved quite a bit over the years. This time of year is the best IMO with training camp coverage and all of the preseason games.
That said it's not something to watch for several hours a day. I just peak in here and there because there is a lot of repeat programming.
ESPN, not so much.

I feel the same way you do. I will watch whichever channel that is talking Texans or are about to. Problem is, neither really seem to talk much Texans.
Also, I could really go the rest of my life without hearing one more word out of Michael Irvin.

If I see Michael Irvin on the show, I don't watch it or delete it without watching it if I've DVR'd it.

I recorded the NFLN training camp segment that featured the Texans yesterday. It wasn't too bad, definitely better than Sportscenter. The only thing that sucked about it was that the segment aired all day and I had a lot of fast forwarding to do and there was a lot of topic repetition. Than again, isn't that all Sportscenter is?

I agree, this is when NFLN is at its best. Inside Training Camp Live is pretty good, although it repeats.
I've had a hard time with some of NFLN's in season coverage, as some of the personalities on there are objectionable to me.
ESPN I can't stand any of the yelling back & forth shows or those involved. (Bayless et al) I do enjoy Mike & Mike when Mike & Mike are on, especially Golic.
During games I watch RedZone and love it.

No doubt about that! Once the Texans game is over I watch RedZone the rest of the day.

Before NFLN, I would have it on ESPN all day long. Then when NFLN came along, I would normally watch that although I would still turn ESPN on from time to time -- I would usually watch Cold Pizza/First Take. When First Take became the Embrace Debate BS, I stopped watching ESPN in the morning.
Recently, I've taken to just turning the TV off unless I read some news on TT that makes me turn it on.

And, I know where to watch if I want anything at all about the New York friggin' Jets. I swear they gloss that team beyond anything I can believe they deserve.

Yeah, what is with that? I get it, New York, Yankees, East Coast... but can we plese get back to some actual sports news, and not sports drama? When did the sports media go from tallking about sports to talking about the TMZ bullsheet in the sports world?
Im not sure ive seen a sing box score in the last 2 days because of Manziel and Arod.

I can't watch ESPN for non-live sports and maybe some 30 for 30's... No one latches on to a non-story and blows it out of proportion like they do. I'll watch NFLN, but they usually rerun a lot of their stuff all day long.
During the season, I like NFL Network's Playbook previews. I also like Turning Point on NBC Sports Network. I don't think ESPN has an X's and O's NFL program anymore. They used to have one (I think Suzy Colber hosted it), but of course all they care about is the ratings and what the herd thinks, so they run crap like First Take all day.

If I watch it's normally nfln. There's usually nothing worth viewing though. These boards are a better source for news and updates.
Espn blows and I avoid it unless a game is on.
Redzone is awesome. It drives my wife crazy but being able to watch out of market games is great - even if the "remote" is in someone elses hands.

I don't watch either one of them. I have my own sports network just bumping aroung the net looking at info I want, watching videos I want. For example, watched the Deion Sanders videos yesterday, one where he interviewed Ed Reed and another where he was talking to the Texans players. Watched at my own leisure, my own time, my own choosing, not ESPN's or NFLN's.
Gone are the days of waiting through 45 minutes of Tebow talk on an hour show to get a 90 second afterthought on the Texans. I'll go find that **** myself.

Television is just not a good medium for mundane news. The internet is way better for this type of information gathering. Training camp reviews and transaction reports are important to us hardcore fans, but really are not anything I need a visual picture.
Now if there is an in progress, on going story, television is great. Live coverage of disaster type events is generally exceptional as is coverage of things of sports drama like Johnny football l since the viewer can get bunches of viewpoints quickly. the problem is that television knows this and tries to make stories where one does not exist.

I can't say whether or not it will be back for the 2013 season, but the NFL Matchup show that Ron Jaworski has done for years (I think it started out as Edge NFL Matchup) was still around as of last season. Early Sunday mornings on ESPN2 as I recall.

I swear, with each Jets update, I am hoping more and more that they become a team that is unable to win a single freakin' game this season. What justification would NFLN/ESPN have to cover a loser team at that point?
Rex Ryan is so freakin' overhyped. He's like the Chad Johnson of head coaches. The media follows him around hoping for some mundane brain droppings to fall out so they can feast on it like kittens on milk.
And Sanchez is a joke. He's in the bottom 5 of starting QBs, throwing more INTs than TDs in two of his four seasons.
I just want this team to fail hard so the media STFU about them. It is ONLY because they have "New York" in the name that they get this pub. If it was the Jacksonville Jets, we would never hear about them, and rightfully so.
The TV used to be on NFLN 23/7 (breaking bad reruns) but for the last 6 months or so they've been replaying the same shows that I don't care for. America's game & past seasons of hard knocks & things like that.
They've got so much content, years & years of televised football games, I don't know why they can't make a series of something or other that people would watch.
Just from last season, I'd have liked to watch reruns of every game. OR reruns of the three games they do each week with "replay" or whatever they call it.
I'd really like more content with the x coaches where they would discuss things that happened during their tenure, "well, when that was going on, we were dealing with this & so & so really struggled that season with blah, blah, blah, but we stuck with it..." stuff like that.
I'm sure they could get interest on someone breaking down the X's & O's... similar to what Baldinger & Sharpe do, but from a coaches perspective, "This is what we teach, & this is why." "I had so & so & he was really good at teaching blah,blah, blah." or, "This is the way the WCO is evolving, when GreenBay does this, ATlanta is doing that, & now more teams are starting to...... "
The pistol offense is going to be big next season, they can go into some of the wrinkles that is going to add to the game, what certain teams have been doing defensively to "correct" for it & that kind of stuff.

NFL Network has been running previews of the coming season of "A Football Life." There is one in there I'm particularly looking forward to. It's about the Oilers; I don't know how wide or narrow the subject is, but in the preview you see the Buddy Ryan/Kevin Gilbride punch, and you see Spencer Tillman saying they were a house of cards and needed therapy. So, it could be just on that season, or it could be on the last seasons the Oilers had in Houston.

I love my FF button. I've only had NFLN for two years and damn, I can't get over the JYJ knob job they do. I'm on my 3rd remote. I wore the FF button out getting away from them bastids.

Iva accepted the fact that my team gets glossed over more often than not. Having said that I prefer nfln over espn. In fact as much as i think florio disses the texans ProFootballTalk is better than listening to some of the clowns on espn.

This is pretty much where I'm at. I've taken to DVR'ing once or twice a week the NFLN evening show and fast forwarding through most of it.

I don't DVR **** from either channel during the football offseason. NFLN does a better job of not gassing up a topic like ESPN does (AROD? STEROIDS? BLAH BLAH BLAH), but they still have their fair share of beating a topic to death, I mean we live a 24/7 news cycle these days.
During the season, NFLN is definitely worth watching over ESPN just because of the analysis.

NFLN and it ain't close for me. I watch them year round b/c i love football so much. ESPN..*sigh*...they've got some good programming but it's overshadowed by how they just drive stuff into the ground too much. I love the 30 for 30 / 9 for 9 series' they have but all i ever seem to remember from them is the latest drama in sports (Aaron Hernandez, Johnny Manziel, Tim Tebow) or what the Yankees, Red Sox or Lakers are doing....It's ridiculous.
Right now, they're devoting an obscene amount of coverage to the Jets QB battle between trash ass Sanchez and a rookie who everyone who's seen him in training camp says that he's not ready to start yet. The jets aren't expected to do anything this year so seriously why in the hell is this even on my TV screen beyond what it would be for any other non-NY team? :kubepalm:

Fox Sports 1 launches August 17 as an "ESPN alternative"...
Supposed to have a football show with the Fox NFL game hosts among other offerings that look a little questionable. Likely take a while to assemble solid lineup, but they have deep pockets.
