Jerry Jones says it's Imminent that not One but Two Teams may "Move" to LA

Jerry Jones let some intrigue into the room Saturday when he told the assembled media at Dallas Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, Calif., that the prospect of an NFL team in Los Angeles is "closer than ever."
On Wednesday, Jones -- a California native, for the record -- expanded on his thoughts during an interview with NFL Network.

"I feel more imminent about a team being in here, that it's more imminent than any time since we haven't had a team in Los Angeles," Jones said. "And yes, this market is a huge market, it's a little bit of a black eye for all of us to have had this many years and not had an NFL team in Los Angeles.

"The owners don't mess much up ... but we haven't gotten this one right. There's people, there's locations, there are people that are interested, a lot of people that can help us put this thing together. And as it turns out that we have at least two teams ... that could move to this area."

Jones was asked where a prospective team (or two!) would come from.

"There won't be any expansion," he said. "So it will be teams that move."
And now we begin the process of elimination when viewing the NFL's future through Jerrah's aviators. Jones has been an NFL owner for 25 years, so it's safe to say he's plugged into the inner workings of the NFL machine.

While his word shouldn't be taken as gospel, it's certainly noteworthy ... especially for you San Diego Chargers fans.

When your team has become so mediocre that it's not very relevant anymore, ole Jer' can still find a way to get into the Headlines.
 
Rams go home. That's it. Nobody else should be allowed to move into that town or encouraged to do so.

But if they do insist on two teams it's Rams and Jaguars I hope. London shouldn't even be a topic of conversation though and LA should be looking at one team only. They don't merit another one.
 
Each of the "promising" L.A. stadium deals, one by one, have thus far managed to fall apart at the last minute. It's ridiculous for the League to be talking about this move without a deal in place. Of course, if Jerry wants a team there that badly and thinks that it would be so financially lucrative, he should entertain figuring out someway to dig up Cowboys Stadium and move HIS team and HIS ass to LA.:pirate:
 
Jerruh's in Cali sucking up as much media attention as possible, as usual.

I wouldn't touch L.A. if I were an owner -- learn from history. I'd be all over San Antonio, and I'd push & push & push with the other owners against Jerruh blocking S.A.

Three teams in Texas would be nice. Silly to consider London before S.A. imo.

Jerry Jones and Bob McNair would fight tooth and nail against a team in San Antonio.

McNair would too I think. Even though the Texans don't have much of a presence there I'm sure they'd love to develop a bigger one, and having a team in the area would make that almost impossible.

NY, L.A., Chicago, DFW - Largest metro areas in the U.S.

San Antonio isn't in the top ten when looked at in that fashion, and that's what the NFL is looking for.

I was reading the other day that Dallas and FtWorth-Arlington are really 2 distinct metropolitan areas, they just call them collectively the "Metroplex". So then it would seem like Dallas doesn't really have an NFL team (or a MLB team) anymore ?

The original stadium was in Irving (N/W of downtown Dallas). Arlington is farther West almost perfectly in between FTW and Dallas.

In a sense, Dallas has never had an NFL or Baseball team...only the Stars and the Mavericks.

Irving is in Dallas metro, not so Arlington.
 
I think you also have to consider the possibility of the Raiders also making that move
back to LA, Davis is dead Oakland is a waste land and a new stadium would prompt
their move back IMO

The Cowboys used to play in the Cotton Bowl, which is definitely in Dallas. Dallas/Irving/Arlington, it's all semantics. The entire Dallas/FTW/Arlington and other nearby cities are considered as one media market which determines ad revenue for TV and radio stations, which allows you a larger audience as a sports team. Also, Dallas itself will never be much bigger than it is, because, unlike Houston, it can't annex any cities immediately surrounding it. Don't know the details, but there is some law that allows Houston to annex surrounding areas.

The NFL probably isn't moving an eastern team all the way out to Cali, I think San Diego and Oakland are probably candidates. If a Florida team has to go I think the Dolphins are currently most in danger of moving with the stadium deal collapsing.

Neither can Houston or any city in Texas, trick is to annex an area before it incorporates. But the point here is that the FtWorth-Arlington area of which FtWorth proper itself is a city of over 3/4s of a million people, a large city in it's own right, is definitely not a suburb of Dallas. If you don't know that then you don't know anybody from Ft Worth.

I lived in the DFW area for 13 years. Was never claiming that FTW was a "suburb" of Dallas. It's a great city on its own, and I personally like it better than Dallas for a variety of reasons. But to say that the Metroplex is not one large metro area, but rather several smaller ones is incorrect.

To be precise, I would say that North Texas is anchored by two large cities each of which has several small to medium sized suburbs. There's just too much of a tendency to overstate the importance of Dallas in N.Texas (or the metroplex if you prefer) and understate the same of FTW, i.e., the reality of Dallas falls far short of the legend of Dallas.

Again, to me it's all semantics, when I lived in Trophy Club, I didn't really feel like my neighborhood belonged more to Dallas or to Ft. Worth, but rather to the whole area.

To get back on topic, I think the Rams are the only viable candidate at the time. Their stadium upgrades have been rejected in St. Louis, and their lease is running out soon.
