Kaepernick defiant about Dolphins hat

infantrycak

Hall of Fame
On Friday, photos emerged of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick wearing a Dolphins hat. It created a stir on a fairly slow news day, but nothing all that major.

And then Kaepernick decided to defiantly defend his decision to wear the hat, making a minor blip into a much bigger story.

“This the hat y’all mad at?” Kaeperick said on his Instagram account. “I’m goin wear what I want regardless of what you think, all you need to worry about is the fact that I grind for my teammates and the 49ers! I plan on doin this until they won’t let me in the building! #ridiculous#y’allmustbebored.”

OK I think it is foolish when people get bent when an athlete wears gear from a different city in a different sport but c'mon Kaep you can't wear another NFL team's gear. You did it for attention and then you ran it up more with the defiant tweet. Not a good sign for his maturity level.

Who gives a crap? It's the offseason. These hard are a fashion statement and not a sign of affiliation. They're worn to match w something; an accessory. Those that don't like it should go suck a...lemon.

Infantrycake is right here, his very defensive response to comments about his Dolphin attire is a sure sign of immaturity and not what you would want from the leader of your teams offense. And the Tats maybe are cool in the 'Hood, but with punk NE player and accused killer Hernandez now the poster boy for Tats it's not a good look. Trouble is these things are basically there for life I guess, you just don't wash them off and start anew the next morning.

Why do sites like instagram make it difficult to post pictures?

This is the thing I'm most interested in. How are these young guys going to handle this instant success? How are they going to react when all of a sudden they aren't winning? How much will they internalize & take the appropriate steps to correct the issue? How much will they attribute to those around them & separate themselves from the solution?

How many distractions can they deal with?

Your correlation between tattoos and a murder are ridiculous. This generation is about self expression and doing as you please. Neither a hat nor tattoos tell you anything about a persons character.

Ted Bundy - No tattoos, killed 30
Jeffrey Dahmer - No Tattoos, killed 17
John Wayne Gacy - No tattoos, killed 33

Using your logic, all white guys that don't have tattoos are serial killers?

NFL BEAT: JIM HARBAUGH BERATES REPORTER OVER FASHION TASTE

Published November 3, 2000

Chargers QB Jim Harbaugh refused to answer questions on
Wednesday from San Diego Union-Tribune beat writer Jim
Trotter, who wore a 49ers sweatshirt to the team's practice
(ESPN.com, 11/2). Trotter wrote about the incident in
Thursday's Chargers notebook, but he did not name himself as
the reporter. Harbaugh said it was "pathetic" a reporter
would wear the logoed sweat shirt. Harbaugh: "I don't talk
to anybody in a San Francisco 49ers shirt. How could you
wear that out here? ... Seriously, man. How could you wear
that out here to a Chargers facility?" When Trotter said he
was not employed by the Chargers, Harbaugh said, "Well, I
don't answer any questions from anybody wearing the enemy's
jersey" (UNION-TRIBUNE, 11/2). Asked why he didn't use his
own name in his story, Trotter said, "The paper wanted
nothing but a transcript of what happened." Meanwhile,
Union-Tribune Sports Editor Chuck Scott told ESPN that "the
newspaper does not have a policy regarding sports logos on
the job, but he said reporters are expected to wear
professional attire" (ESPN.com, 11/2).

Using your logic, all white guys that don't have tattoos are serial killers?

DexmanC has been trying to tell y'all that for years, but y'all won't take him seriously.

Now, now maybe you'll see the truth in which he speaks & learn.

Don't virtually all gang members wear Tats and have specific Tat(s) that identify their gang affiliation ?

I personally don't care but I do think he is showing his immaturity. His attitude is a slap in the face to the loyal and die hard San Francisco fans that help pay his salary. But whateva...

I have tattooed arms, wear fitted hats, and hold 2 government clearances. What's your point?

Aren't all serial killers white males, no tattoos, and seem normal enough?

If Kaepernick suffers a significant "sophomore slump," he may be handed the opportunity to match the rest of his uniform to his Dolphins hat.:kitten:

Not sure how this got onto tattoos but I will say while I have several the nature of the tattoos matters. A full sleeve dragon with a yin yang (which I intend to get one day) is one thing. A sleeve of gang crap is different and the government from police to military to security clearances will pay attention.

What the heck is a fitted hat? Do people walk around with hats that don't fit them?

Appears Jim Harbaugh may not approve (from PFT.com):

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick thinks it’s no big deal that he likes to wear a Miami Dolphins hat. His coach may disagree.

When 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh was a player, he made it very clear that he didn’t like seeing anyone wearing an opposing team’s colors.

In fact, in 2000, when Harbaugh played for the Chargers, he got angry at Jim Trotter, then a San Diego Union-Tribune reporter, for showing up at Chargers practice wearing a 49ers sweatshirt. Harbaugh said it was “pathetic” that Trotter would wear such a shirt, and he refused to answer any of Trotter’s questions.

That Harbaugh thing was about wearing the wrong crap in a teams locker room. That's disrespectful.

In this case, Kaepernick is hang'n in Miami (right?) or somewhere in Florida. I bet Harbaugh couldn't care less as long as he wears the right uniform when it counts.

As an aside, it is odd that a football player would wear the colors of a different team.

Say..... the dragon sleeve, doesn't that make you Yakuza?

& a fitted cap is made to a particular size. It is not a one size fits all affair.

I can't fathom how this would not bother someone.

If Watt posts a pic in a Packers hat or Cushing in a Jets hats, I'm definitely not cool about it.

I understand that this is a business, but wearing another team's hate is pretty damn disrespectful to your team.

Uh-huh, not the least interested in responding directly to the question.
Pretty much sums it up.

You've got several tattoos ? No shix ! I've never understood the mentality of
wearing Tats ? What's your story Infantrycak ?

Maybe it was a disguise??

I'm going to recant on this statement.

After thinking about it, nero THE zero is right. Once these guys become the "face of the franchise" They're on the clock 24/7 and represent that franchise all the time. That doesn't mean that Kaepernick should wear 49ers colors all the time, but he can't be going around promoting another franchise.

What's worse, he's not just the face of the 49ers (I didn't say role model) he's the QB, the leader. If I'm on that team I may be wondering, "Is he in this for the long haul? What's he going to do when the going gets tough? Is he just in it for the money? Is he going to bolt the first chance he gets? Is he doing his best, or is he just doing his time?"

If he really liked those colors, he could have wore Hurricane colors.

What would wearing a hat have to do with the long haul, the going getting tough or the money? He like most are in it for the game and to make as much money as possible. Doing his time and doing it well will get him money, wearning or not wearing certain cloths will not nor is it likely to impact his quality of work

What would wearing a hat....

Have you seen the facebook pictures? It wasn't just the hat, his draws was Dolphin turquoise.

It shows no tact or maturity.

It'd be like an HP executive wearing a Dell polo around on a Sunday, or a Baker Hughes executive using a Schlumberger branded gym bad.

There's a sense of loyalty you need to have to the guys that are cutting your checks. The fact that Kap is a sports player that has fans only makes it more so.

That must be why you see so many players doing it. Oops, no you don't because anyone with an IQ over 2 knows it is a stupid thing to do.

Im not sure if you struggle with the english language but I said it should be a nonevent. I dont care how many people currently do it nor do I care about the IQ of other people.

Certainly a lack of maturity and this is coming from someone in their mid 20s

It'd be like an HP executive wearing a Dell polo around on a Sunday, or a Baker Hughes executive using a Schlumberger branded gym bad.

he isnt an executive so and further how many 25 year olds are in an exec role?

I just dont see him as being less loyal by wearing a hat. If the work he puts in goes down or he starts asking to be traded to Miami thats a different story.

Yep. Pretty stupid move. Not a huge deal or anything, just not very smart.

I am now off to go post a bunch of pics online of me wearing a competitive logo of the company that I currently work for. SMART.

If they doubt his loyalty then always the option to just cut him. That's loyalty right there.

It's the offseason. He was neither representing the organization nor at a team function.

As long as come gameday, he knows what team he's on I could give a rats a$$ what he's wearing in the offseason.

Im not sure what draws are

If its not breaking rules, law or impacting the job he does for the 49ers it should be a nonevent
It's not agaisnt the rules for me to wear an HP polo to a company event. As I work for a "major competitor", it's not the brightest idea either. Unlike Kaepernick, I'm nowhere near a "face of the franchise", nor does my industry have legions of rabid fans watching what I do on vacation.

he isnt an executive so and further how many 25 year olds are in an exec role? .
No he's a multi-million $$ star player for the team, far MORE recognizable than those in the 49'ers front office.

yea but biggest difference between you and Colin Kapernick, aside from the obvious....

YOU are replaceable if you did something like that at your job, Kapernick isn't and he knows it....

so you are basically comparing apples to lemons...

Whew!

I thought we might lose the season over this.

You bring up a great point. Folks like to ramble on about loyalty, but most teams are not that loyal to players when the rubber meets the road. Loyalty extends as far as "what can you do for me now", but where were those teams for these NFL legends?...

I understand why some people are up in arms because its not the team he plays for right now. And, while I agree it is probably not the wisest choice as a 'consumer brand', if I had to really search my heart and soul for my feelings on it....I could not care less.

Seriously, in the big picture of "shit wrong in the world", this story is just not on the list. JMO

Let me put it to you this way. Now, this has become a 49ers problem. Now, Harbaugh will have this on HIS plate. Its another stupid question from the media he will have to deal with. This isnt about who is replaceable or not, its about being a PROFESSIONAL. This guy is following in the footsteps of Montana and Young. Again, its not a huge deal... But it is a learning experience for him and was stupid of him in the first place.

The nerve of him! That would be like a rock star wearing another band's shirt!
Seriously, he's at a beach (Miami?), just having fun on his personal time. He might've just picked one up to keep the sun out of his eyes.
I'm betting there weren't many niners hats available.

dont compare non execs to execs then

he may be the face but only up until they say he is, he certainly didnt choose that role with the team

To follow up on this thought, he should always long sleeve shirts too. If he's the face and an "executive" those tattoos are very unprofessional.

I think it's the beginning of the end.
