Hoo boy! Barwin will be released after 2013 if he doesn't put up good numbers.

1.3 million in 2013

Jumps 3.6 million to 4.9 in 2014.

Jumps from 4.9 to 6.1 in 2015.

Connor better save and invest wisely this year. He'll be playing on 1-year vet minimum contracts starting 2014.

That's a prove it contract, and Barwin better hope coach puts him in position to succeed.

Hey Hervy, memory cells fading on you big guy ? You are the one who once bragged (on this Board) about being unbeaten vs wet-paper bags.

I remember that just fine. I don't get the "you must think you're a pretty clever guy" part. I'm not sure what you mean by that. I'm clever enough I guess.

Yep, that's almost exactly what I wanted the Texans to sign him for. 2 years 8.2 million is essentially what that contract is, and if he does well, they keep him beyond that. If not, you got him for 4.1m a year for two years. That's a decent deal for a starting OLB.

lol! MSR

I guess the official Connor Barwin Fan Club did not appreciate so much...perhaps he thinks you're Jewish?

Probably because our 1st round rookie was waiting in the wings and produced more in limited time.

$1.3M against the 2013 cap. $4.something against the 2014 cap. $2.something dead money if he's cut in 2015...

Sorry, we should have been able to make that deal. Start Merci on the weakside. Start Connor on the strong side. Start Brooks inside. He can still rotate with Merci & Connor on 3rd down, it actually gives you the ability to disguise your 4th rusher on third downs.

Reed can line up at ILB & we can show a 3 man front; Connor, Watt, Antonio (inside the tackle). At the snap, Antonio can rush around & Reed shoot up the middle.... or Antonio can crash down on the Tackle & Guard & Reed can shoot around the outside.

LOL.

Yeah, two years at around $8 mill total...sorry, he hasn't earned that amount.

$2 mill-per-year? Fine. I wouldn't like even that amount, but I'd manage to stomach it.

34 OLBs are extremely expensive. If you count Barwin at 4.1m a year average, then he would be the 13th highest paid OLB (this is not including 43 DEs). There are a bevy of OLBs on their rookie contracts behind that 4m mark including Orakpo, Matthews, Aldon Smith and more, all of which will command much more than 4m a year when their rookie deals end. The Eagles actually made a good deal here, Barwin is at least a decent starter, and he's being paid below average money at the position. I personally would have liked to keep him for that much, but if we are going to spend that kind of money I would prefer spending a bit more to keep Quin instead.

I'd rather go OLB in the early rounds of draft and pay much less than Barwin would have had here, especially since he appeared to have been a huge fat zero all year.

The guy is a workout warrior. When was the last time the announcers were screaming his name after he had busted up a play or really impacted the game in a big way?

The guy was the David Carr of the defense while he was here. Great style, fabulously awesome hair, and a knack for really turning it on in camp...good with the media, yada yada.

Philly has become to us what we were to the Broncos, it's the circle of life.

6. Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin

Signed to a six-year, $36 million contract by Philadelphia, Barwin managed three sacks across 18 starts in Houston last season, including the playoffs. Dating back to 2011, Barwin has three sacks over his last 21 games.

On tape, it is evident that Barwin lacks threatening edge speed. He's "just a guy." The Eagles have publicly attributed Barwin's poor Texans production to the manner in which Wade Phillips used him. In all likelihood, Philly is going to be sorry if its thinks Barwin will spark the pass rush.

The good news is Barwin only received $8 million in guaranteed money. It's a backloaded deal that becomes year to year after 2014. The Eagles are still locked into paying Barwin $8 million over the next two seasons.

Yeah, unless it was for the vet min I didn't want barwin back. And even then id have had to think about it because I'd Luke younger players with higher upside to have a shot and barwin would be in the way of that.

That said, barwin would be a pretty good solb. But that's reeds spot sooooo....

Posted by Darin Gantt on December 4, 2014, 10:46 AM EST

The Eagles outside linebacker was named NFC defensive player of the month for November after a stretch of games which saw him collect 6.5 sacks.

He’s tied for second in the league with 12.5 sacks this season, which is a career high.
