Typical .. we received a cease & desist letter from the NFL a few years ago also. We decided to continue & resist instead.
It's frustrating when the entity that controls your favorite sport is also one you hold in almost complete contempt. Every time I see a commercial on television that has to refer to the Super Bowl as "The Big Game" I throw up in the back of my mouth just a little. It's a real conflict at this point for me. I love NFL football and I just absolutely hate the NFL and pretty much everything they stand for or do other than what directly relates to the game itself. Even that has become so bloated and filled with advertisement from the networks, sponsors, and the league itself that there are times during the season when I just suddenly think "Why am I sitting through this ****?". If you've got a recorded game from 25-30 years ago it's amazing how little extraneous garbage is in the broadcast. There are no in-game spots for programs that appear on the network later in the week. At no point does some guy from "NCSCSI:Chicago" or whatever walk out in front of the field and strike a pose while the color commentator invites you to check out the most watched new show on television. It's like you're actually watching a sporting event where the game is the most important part of the broadcast.
The NFL gets his trademarks because they got a bigger treasure chest than he does.
