The Pro Bowl...I don't care...I really just don't care!

Dread-Head

Hall of Fame
The Pro Bowl has long been the league's way of telling players who had a GREAT year "job well done" and reward them with an all expense paid trip to Hawaii. The catch? They have to "play" a game. No one goes all out because they KNOW that the game is just to justify the league getting a tax write off for sending all those guys to Hawaii and picking up the tab. Guys in the pro bowl help each other up, pose for pictures together between quarters and hug each other after the game.

Roger Goddell being an imbecile doesn't GET this. He thinks that the Pro Bowl is not only a real game, but should be a money maker. He's suggested getting rid of it and at one point put a pro bowl in the same city in which the Superbowl was being played. Goddell thinks if the Pro bowl is played the week BEFORE the Superbowl...people will watch.

Sorry, I haven't watched an entire Pro-bowl since Mr. Warren Moon was playing in them. I just don't give a vugg about the Pro-Bowl. I don't care...I really just don't care. Am I alone?

The last time I bothered watching a Pro Bowl, Howie Long was still playing. That is how little I care for that game. So for me, next weekend will be more about watching the Senior Bowl, than some lame NFL Pro Bowl.

It would be the PERFECT time for the lingerie bowl!

NFLPA is making one last ditch effort to generate some type of competitive effort in the PB, which I expect will fail. Then it's gonzo.

football is just not a sport that translates well to the "all-star" format.

nobody plays hard

nobody hits (unless it's sean taylor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPiZjUf9TcQ)

and even the "big plays" are yawn worthy.

at least in the nba all-star games the dunks and alley-oops get's some oos and ahhs. sometimes they even get serious in the 4th quarter as well.

The Pro Bowl needs to be a game played by college prospects like the Senior Bowl with the AFC and NFC still electing players to their respective Pro Bowl teams but all they'll really do is some skills competitions and hang out with the prospects all week/weekend.

I've never watched more than 5 minutes of any Pro Bowl. It's just boring. I wish they'd replace it with skills competitions at least. Fastest players, longest kicks, most accurate QB, etc.

I think the Pro Bowl is for fans who just wanna take a break from the serousness of the regular season. Nothing wrong with having a little fun, for the players, and for fans who can afford to make a trip to Hawaii. I would go if I could afford it, thats for sure. Sometimes we all get a little TO serious about this GAME we all love so much! When it ceases to be fun then it's time to find some other type of entertainment. JMO!

I watch AT the game, which means, if I see a TEXAN logo on a helmet I pay attention, if not, I usually channel surf or do something else. I do enjoy seeing our boys have fun! They deserve it!!

I'm not going to make an event out of watching it, but I do enjoy tuning in and seeing all the players from around the NFL out there running around.

Last years was pretty cool because towards the end when cam newton came in it really heated up out there.

With all the talk about ending the game I wouldn't be surprised if the game looked a bit more like a real game this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if goodell has made it known that if they end the game they end everything associated with it. Just have your all pro team and maybe an all conference team.

It's football. It's on TV. I'll watch.

The last few years haven't been bad games and I enjoy watching Texans players and coaches in the Pro Bowl.

That would be better than what we have now, especially since the "best" players don't always make the Pro Bowl. To me it is like the NFL HOF; more of a popularity contest than anything else.

Honestly, I think I would rather watch a pick-up basketball game featuring the Pro Bowl players than the actual Pro Bowl.

They should substitute the Pro Bowl with a XBOX Madden extravaganza using only those players that made the Pro Bowl roster. The Offensive and Defensive MVP's would handle the controls.

If it's really that important to the NFL, why don't they just sweeten the pot ?
If there's a financial incentive to win the game, double it or tripple it or whatever. If there is none, then offer one. These guys are pros, i.e., they play for money. Just offer enough greenbacks to the winning team members and they will play at a high intensity level. Here's an idea, offer any defensive player 50 G if he can knock the opposing QB out of the game. Oh wait, that's a no-no these days, right ?

I am with you 100%. They should do away with the game and just give the players a Hawaiian vacation. If they play the game, it should just be flag football.

Good points, ST. My 10 yo son and his buddies love the Pro Bowl. I loved it as a kid, as well. Perhaps the demographics that enjoys the PB are not ones posting on internet message boards right now?

Like you said, at the end of the day it's all about entertainment. Just because something does not entertain me does not mean it's not entertaining someone out there. (just like Super Bowl halftime shows!)

I care. My preference would be the week after the Super Bowl so that it would be more inclusive of all pro bowl representatives. I know that players don't play with the same intensity as a meaningful game, but I see it as a time of fun at the end of the season for both players and fans. Oh, and I heard that tickets are cheap.

A few people that I know that went said they had a great time being in Hawaii, meeting many of the the players and even the game was refreshing. It remains on my bucket list of things to do in my lifetime.

The last time I can remember caring about the Pro Bowl is when Billy "White Shoes" Johnson was returning kicks for the AFC in the Superdome.

I've said it for years now - they need to scrap the game and just have an awards show to honor the Pro Bowlers, MVP, ROY's, Offensive and Defensive POY, coaches of the year, etc. They can even still send everyone to Hawaii. An awards show, with highlights for each player, would be something I'd check out. The Pro Bowl game - not interested, never will be.

Schaub was the MVP of the Pro Bowl in 2010. That should tell you how worthless this "game" is.

How that happened might tell you this isn't an opportunity to take a random Schaub shot. An NFL head coach decided to bring Schaub back into the game, a rare event and over other Pro Bowl QBs, to lead a come from behind victory.

Schaub certainly didn't make the pro bowl this year on support from Texans fans. Apparently players and coaches respect him.

As to the pro bowl, I usually watch it as one of the last opportunities to watch football in the season. The money is insignificant to these guys so they must like playing it also or you would see a lot more drop-outs.

I'm more Sr Bowl than Pro Bowl at this time of the year. I try to always watch the Sr Bowl but I can't even remember the last time I sat through a Pro Bowl. I've been a football fan since the early 70's and I haven't given a heck about this game for decades. I'd rather watch Powder Puff football.

The Pro Bowl needs to be a game played by college prospects like the Senior Bowl with the AFC and NFC still electing players to their respective Pro Bowl teams but all they'll really do is some skills competitions and hang out with the prospects all week/weekend.
What we need is the bizarro-world Post Season American Football Bowl. The top College prospects play the guys who didn't make the Pro Bowl each year. The players and fans determine the elite players at a red carpet ceremony, then after the show, live....the fans pick the starters for the AFB on their smart phones while they play NFL bloopers on the big screen.

So, if you make the "Pro Bowl" you get to go on vacation. If you don't make the club, you must go play the in-coming College kids and perhaps ride a bus to the game.

what does the NFL have 2 do to make it a competive game ..????

i say whatever conference wins the Pro bowl game then

every team in that winning conference NFL wk 1 they get opening possesion and half time possesion no coin toss

or to maybe up the anti the winning conference wk 1 they get a 3 point lead right off the back meaning the game will start off 3 to 0

I don't think there is anything you can do to make it competitive. Guys get hurt enough without adding in a stupid all star game. I just don't think football is good for it. Baseball, basketball, hockey, they all seem to be able to put on a decent show that people actually watch. The Pro Bowl seems to be the only one that's considered a joke.

Opening possession the first week of the season means diddly-squat to these guys, and I'll take your 3 points over a torn ACL anytime.

If I'm tired and need something on the TV to sleep to this coming Sunday, I'll turn it on for the nap time.
