Jacksonville Trip

Alright.... For ALL you people willing people that want to go to JAX,
apparenly "that smell" comes from a papermill... I think that explanation comes from "Mootini" who is a good friend of "TexansTalk.com"

My flight is booked and I will probably stay where I did last year since the guys stayed there too. I am still searching for a single ticket, but I normally don't have a huge issue finding tickets in Jacksonville.

Yo Kay I'll be at that game if you want you can sit with our group! I plan on getting tix as close as possible on the visitors side (Texans)

Anyone hitting the first road game? I am planning on making a road trip to Jax.

Really??? Have you ever been to JAX???

Whenever you land, you get a terrible smell. There's not a lot to do with the exception of "the Landing", Jacksonville Beach or Amelia Island.

That said, I mean no offense to our long-time Jaguars Mootini. He's a cool cat and he explained that "the smell" is a nearby paper plant or something like that!!!

LOL thats legit I'll make sure to bring my face mask like the ones they wear in hospitals to try to avoid the stench...hope it works...

So me and my buddy will actually be driving to JAX...dont know if thats the greatest idea but he wants to drive so I wont complain lol

Some other guys did the drive from Houston last year and they said it wasn't bad. I have booked my hotel room for this trip so I am almost finished. Last year I had so much fun in Jacksonville (surprisingly).

That must be something near the airport. I have driven through there a few times and never smelled anything foul or ever had the impression that Jax is a polluted city.

Also we (people from Houston) have no room to make fun of another city for foul odor ..lol. At least people from where I grew up as a kid (La Porte, Deer Park, Stinkadena) where odor and yellow/brown clouds were the norm.

I always had a real bad impression of the Jags and their fans because of the internet, however I was pleasantly surprised by the stadium and atmosphere there.

BTW, I am now not sure I am going to make this game. I just got offered a 10 day all inclusive/paid stay down in the Keys. All my buddy wants me to do is bring my boat down there and taxi some of our friends to some islands and snorkeling areas. I have never been to the Keys and am probably going to take him up on that deal. The unfortunate part is these 10 days include the first 2 NFL weekends. However the good news is we are playing the Dolphins in week 1 so I know that game will be on regular TV in the Keys.

I could leave a day early and make the Jags game but that will be a lot of driving. Jax is about 2.5 hours north from where I now live and I will be coming back from the Keys (about 6 hours south).

The Airport is way less than 15 miles from "downtown" JAX.

We built a Federal Courthouse in dowtown JAX so I was flying there once a week for about 18 months and believe me, there was a disticnt nastiness smell (papermill or not). Am I suggesting that it's pollution and does the city of Houston have any room to talk? Heck to the NO!!! The smell reminds me of certain drives thru Luling when that mill is going off... Samething, only constant.

The Fans?? Ask Joe about how "nice" their fans are by trying to steal (and I believe successfully) Joe's hat.

*Disclaimer* This in no way means to insult Mootini, who again, has been a longtime member and contributor.

The Keys are the shizzle! You should do it, very awesome!

I might leave the Keys a day early and make this game. However I have to play it by ear right now.

I'll be there. of course I only live an hour from the stadium. I've been to five games there andthefans are pretty nice. It's a military town, so there are a lot of fans from other teams there.

The pulp mill plants cause the stink, but I've never noticed it in jax. It's real bad in SE Georgia where I live, but still has nothing on Pasadena.

If you end up tailgating, I will probably see you. I ran into some nice Texans fans last year in JAX that lived in the area.

Bringing this back up since the trip is next weekend.

Just put a little jalapeno juice up your nose as you exit the airplane in JAX!! #FunkySmell

I kid Mootini!

For the newbs, Mootini is a great fan of the kitties and the NFL and has contributed a lot to Texans Talk!

So Houston doesn't have any refinery smells? LOL I haven't smelled the Paper plant in a long time! You can smell it, some times on the northside of Jville..by the airport! That smell comes down from St Mary's, GA. Has to be a NW wind. I'll be at the game Sunday! Weather looks nice Sunday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. To whomever coming to the game, have a great time, enjoy Jville/beaches/area. The studium is one of the best open aired stadiums. I love the location and the easy in and out/parking..ect. Also, new upgrades to the stadium this off season, new speakers..ect. You can bring your own food to the game, has to be in a clear plastic box! Check the jags website for details. Enjoy your stay and go home with a loss! LOL Our games are always entertaining/exciting...a great rival.

Thanks, Bill

I wish, the Jags were good enough for me to troll more on Texantalk! LOL I've been checking in during the year...got to keep up on you guys..Texans looking solid...its your turn to make the run.

I always tailgate at the Ross Doe Sandwich parking lot about 2 blocks east of the stadium..only $20 bucks..easy in and easy out.

Jax travelers. Two questions:

Is there a Saturday night meetup place for Texans fans?

Is there a Sunday tailgate spot for y'all?

If so, I will get the word out on the blog. More the merrier.

I haven't heard many people going, but I will be willing to meet up with fans at Whiskey River around 7pm.
4850 Big Island Drive Suite 3
Jacksonville, Florida 32246

I do not have my own tailgate planned. I plan to meet up with some locals that I met last year. I will also stop by Moontini's too.

I am parking in the Tailgaters Lot. http://tailgatersparking.com/. They only accept cash, so come prepared.

225 Talleyrand Avenue

Anyone can tweet me if they are in town and want to connect. @DrKay1908.

I just decided to leave The Keys a day early and head up to the game. Will be there some time Sunday morning.

Cool. I got here this morning and already saw a Texans fan. Woot.

I will be sitting in section 137 on Sunday.

Rep well all you TEXAN fans!! Be LOUD and strong for our boys!! Have a great time and stay safe!!

What a GREAT Texan's turnout. I was really impressed with my fellow Texan's fans. We represented well in my section as well as a few other I could see. The vast majority of the Jags fans around us were very nice and hospitable. My teenage daughter did tell me a bunch of older jags fans were taunting her and yelling "******* the Texans" at her while she was waiting to get into the bathroom, but all and all it was one of my better experiences at everbank. Later in the game there was at least one drunken Texan fan who was a little less than classy, but many of the Jags fans had left by that point.

We had a bunch of drunk / obnoxious Texans fans sitting a few rows in front of us whom where upsetting our whole section of Jags fans. That didn't make things easy for us.

I know this team and fanbase is new at winning but at least try to act like you've been there before.

This Jags fan next to me starting bragging on how the Gators beat the Aggies. I don't think he understood the whole UT/A&M thing and don't think he believed me when I told him I was rooting for the Gators in that game. Other than that most of the Jags fans were behaved and treated us well.

I had a great time yesterday, until the Jags played football! I was ALL IN..apparently the Jags were not! So pathetic! Kudos to the Texan fans! I was very pleased with their attitude. Sad, when a streaker can run more yards than your total offense output! Well, it will go down in the histroy books as the worse offense output for the Jags. Hope you all had a great time and enjoyed the weather/atmosphere/stadium. I really like the upgrades, especially the sound system. PS, no paper mill smell either! LOL

I had a great time at the game, besides one drunken Jags fan that threw a beer at my girlfriend and almost got me in a fight. We parked next to a jail and the city definitely smelled strange... not to mention it was really hot and it rained on us for a bit. However, it's hard to care when your team destroys the "competition"! Also, I sat next to Lestar Jean's family and gave his dad a handshake; he was a nice guy.
