Arian at #25 top 100?

DX-TEX

#TomSavageDontCare
I know the Top 100 on NFLN is more or less a joke but to make Arian #25 is just ludacris! Even Cushing thinks so:

briancushing56 Come on man 25?? Arian Foster is the best running back in the league!! 2 minutes ago · reply · retweet · favorite

I hope Arian plays angry this year because he is Top 10/15 players in this league easily.

Now they done gone and pissed JJ off:

JJWatt Best RB in the league ranked 25th on the countdown? Ridiculous. 7 minutes ago · reply · retweet · favorite

I thought he should have been in the top 15 easily, but I like the fact that this will give him some extra motivation.

I also have to say that despite Jacoby being known to say and do some silly things in his time here in Houston, he really did a great job of representing Arian during that piece. I wonder if he's telling Ray Rice right now though if Arian's still the best running back in the game.

The only running back i could see being ahead of him is Peterson and that's obviously pre-injury. The players are morons. Ray Rice is really good, but i don't think he's better than Foster in anything, and it was laughable how easily we shut him down in the playoff game. MJD is good in everything but not great at anything. And i honestly don't know much about McCoy but I don't see him replicating last year's numbers again.

Rep to Quick II Draw.......... That said, I consider espn, this: BSPN ..... Bull****(e)SportsNetwork!!! It once had it's day but totally turned................ Well really BAD!!!

He's young, and hasn't made a lot of friends in the league yet. In a couple years, he will be way up there, it just takes time to make all the connections and be on Sportcenter 24/7. This list is somewhat of a popularity contest anyways, so don't sweat it, the real contest starts in September.

And the only ones doing the actual ranking are current NFL players...

He's never going to get his due until he's 4 or 5 seasons in. The way that Arian ran during the 2010 season, I honestly believe that Arain could've ran for 2000+ yards if we were dedicated enough to it.. I've even said it then. During that season there were a LOT of times where we went away from him and the running game. There were times where we completely ignored him.

Here's the deal though.. This zone scheme, even though it's ran by every team in the league.. (which I've told many Titan fans, because they run the same system we run) has been so successful, this coaching staff now has a stigma where other players/fans think it's just a "system". They completely ignore the talent that Arian has where he is obviously a player who would excel in ANY SYSTEM that he happened to play in. Hell.. just on his vision and receiving ability alone he would be a top RB. However that is the reason why MJD will be listed much higher on the list than Arian Foster was listed when he led the league in rushing, led the league in receiving, ran for more yards than MJD did, and scored more a helluva lot more TDs than MJD did. People and players think it's just because of the system that he plays in.

Is Payton a system QB(?), because he was allowed to operate strictly out of a shotgun almost his entire career? (and now Denver is talking and trying to build that same offensive system around him) Is Brady a system QB(?), because he was able to operate within a NFL spread?.. (the same system that allowed his backup to lead a team to a 11-5 record?) Great players are born.. not made, but put in the right system they can become exceptional...Arain Foster is and has been a great player and because of his system which fits his skills to a tee.. he now has the ability to be exceptional.

Hey I hope they keep rating him below several other RB's. Emmitt Smith always ran with a chip on his shoulder in part because of the comments made before the draft but also because of the comments made about Barry Sanders and about Smith's OL. Not arguing the merits here but I think those things all combined to make Smith run angry for lack of a better description.

Keep calling it the OL, keep calling it the system - run angry Arian or as he might put it run for poetic justice.

I would expect Arian Foster to have landed somewhere in the top 10, and the homer in me says he even deserves Top 5.

But to say he's #25? Yikes.

That smells like there;s a few NFL players who have the red ass due to Foster and are not giving him his due just so they can spite him. Haters.

Arian said on Twitter a few days ago that he has not met a single player that actually voted on this list.

NOt entirely true...players are given a predetermined list that DOES NOT automatically include all players. Arian actually made comment to this on Twitter yesterday.

And something else...

How in the hell does Duane Brown not make this list? He was the best LT in the NFL last season and a helluva lot better than some of the tackles listed. Heck you can even make a argument that Chris Myers should've been put on the list given some of the centers that were listed. Chris Myers was the 2nd or 3rd best center in the league last year.

Given the fact that our Oline has been regarded as one of if not the top unit in the league the past couple of seasons (one of the things that hurt Foster in this poll) and they still fail to put a player in the top 100 tells me that like how the players view foster as a "system player", they share the same exact view towards our offensive lineman.

If you don't want to put Myers in the top 100 I can somewhat except that, but to not add Duane Brown makes me null and void this entire list. The guy was the BEST LT IN THE LEAGUE last season and did not make the cut. I know he'll be on next years list, but the players who are voting are not voting correctly.. they're treating this list like some career achievement poll (probably the same reason why players at certain positions have to dominate for a few seasons before they're elected to the pro bowl.) instead of voting along the guide lines that were listed. It's the same reason why Peyton Manning made the list without playing a down last season and to prove that I'm not a homer... the same reason why Andre Johnson has yet to be listed.

If you go to the NFL.com page it has the fan rankings for each player. What Texans are on the list so far, Cushing and Foster?

This seems a bit dubious. His own teammate, Owen Daniels, has been shown writing down his votes multiple times on various episodes this season. He also has had several of his player comments aired.

And I'd like to second what someone said about Jacoby. JJ had some really nice things to say about Arian. He pretty well put into words feelings on the guy, especially when he said about that one TD run in the playoffs against the Bengals, "That sort of thing just doesn't happen in the NFL every week."

Today on NFLN, Heath Evans picked the Texans to win the Super Bowl.

Sapp picked.....the Cleveland Browns. LMAO. Wow.

Evans dogged Sapp for the Browns selection for SB winner.

Also, they highlighted how Foster was #25 on the list, but they never really discussed if his ranking was right or wrong...it was bizarre. They showed clips of him running, title on the screen was Foster at #25, but they never really argued or expanded upon it in any way.

Did they agree? Why or why not? We don't know because they made no commentary on it. LOL. Amateur hour at NFLN.

Oh, and we also had obligatory Jets "news." Tebow saying the word "fun" every 6 words he spoke. "Tony Sparano is fun. When he's out there, it's so fun. He tells us when we do good, when we do bad. And it's been fun out there." I think he's intentionally being a goober. Has to be. Right? LOL.

Yesterday on ESPN NFL Live, and it's been the first time I've tuned in for like a month...three STRAIGHT "news" items the crew discussed was J-E-T-S, and the fourth item was Tuck's helmet (Giants news). Is it like this everyday? The New York Jets/Giants love fest? Geez, it was just so awful.

I did see during the commercial break after foster was picked Sapp said that foster should have been way farther up the list.. Thats the only discussion i saw about it, pretty rediculous...

Thank you for pointing that out. I guess I zoned out and missed it.

To me, I think whomever is voting on these rankings...they have got some buddies they're ranking higher than they should be ranked. This feels like one of those times when Prom King and Queen is elected based on looks and how many letters they have on their athletic letter jacket.

Now way in hell is McCoy of the Eagles a better overall RB than Foster. But that's how it's ranked. Absurd. There's either some friendly voting going on, or people are a bit red-ass'd over the dominance of Foster.

Possibly Foster missing the first four games of 2011 was a factor, but still...

the question was actually which team is next to win their first superbowl..

Arian seems like one of those annoying people who always has something to be pissed off about. We all know at least one of them,

Great news for the Texans given how he channels that frustration though :cow:

Priscoe over at CBS Sports but Brown at #22 in his top 100:

Was just reading through some Free Agency grades on Walterfootball and saw this tidbit:

Eagles extend RB LeSean McCoy (5 years, $45M; $20.765M guaranteed): A Grade
LeSean McCoy is easily a top-five NFL running back, so the Eagles are getting a steal with this contract, especially when you consider that Arian Foster, a lesser talent, obtained $22.5 million guaranteed. This is such a great deal because in addition to McCoy being a stud, he's also just 23 years old and doesn't have much wear and tear on his body. He has just 635 career carries, so he'll be able to play at a high level for a very long time.

http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2012recap.php

:choke:

Did that fool really call Arian a lesser talent like he is just some guy?

Lmao. Ok, you think McCoy is better, but the way it was worded just sounded like he was saying Arian wS no where near mccoy's level. Basically McCoy is king and Arian is a peasant.

Ok I guess.

It's a pretty stupid statement, absolutely ignorant... You can say McCoy is better and that's fine.. but a "lesser talent"? Foster is one of the most talented muffhuggas out there...does absolutely amazing things with his feet...has the best hands at RB in the league...

Maybe he's trying to say Arian plays in a system which allows for him to succeed more than McCoy in his system? Hell i dunno...guy needs his card pulled...

How many times has LeSean McCoy led the league in rushing?

LeSean McCoy is just a system guy. :kitten: He's in the same system that produced Brian Westbrook.

It is fair to observe Vick has an affect. Teams have to protect outside more to keep Vick from escaping which loosens the D up in the interior some.

Another observation is he gets a lot of very short dump off receptions. He has 50% more receptions than Foster but less yardage.

It's not just Vick, although Vick has an effect. McNabb was also well-suited to the system at his best. It's the way Reid's offense is set up with that short passing game and stretching the defense.

Honestly, I was just joking because Arian isn't given the credit he deserves because some people call him a system guy. But Reid's offense constitutes a system of its own. Guys like Westbrook and Staley did very well in it because of how it opens up the run using the pass. Lots of the runs are draws and most of the passes are short dumps and screens. It's almost the inverse of the Kubiak approach.

I don't understand anyone calling Arian a "lesser product" to anyone really. Just blows my mind, it's like he's never watched him.

Yeah I dont get it. Its supposted to be the Top 100 Players of 2012. But I think they are voting friends and best careers.

#50: Peyton Manning.

The list lost all cred right there. Manning a all-time great...but he did not play a single down last season so he has no business being on this list.

Why? If the list is about 2012, then it's about NEXT season. If it had been about 2011, then there'd be an argument that he didn't deserve to be on it.

The list was about the previous season.

Next season is the season of 2013, it's always the year the superbowl was played in that represents the season.

Listen to how they talk about it, they are putting him at 50 because he didn't play!

The narrator even says "If he didn't play, then why is he in it at all?"

The players are doing this as a career thing.

That might be true in this case, but that's not "always" true. If you look at ProFootballReference.com, when they list seasons, they list them by the year of the season, not the year of the Super Bowl.

Here's the link.

That's the way I've always read/heard it as well.

Yep, I've never seen a NFL statistical site that didn't list stats in the year in which the season started (even though it's not that unusual for the final RS game to take place in the following calendar year). Arian Foster did not get his first start in the 2010 season, nor did he have back to back 1200 yard rushing seasons in the 2011 and 2012 campaigns.

Sounds more like the way video games date things games - not the NFL.

Meh it's a non-issue.

Either way Manning does not belong on that list since it is rating players based on the previous season. The fact that players put him in there shows that they are not ranking players based on the previous season alone (which according the shows description is how it is supposed to be) you can also hear them say it's more of a respect thing.

That's why Andre will be in the top 20(maybe top 10 again? I'm thinking the other Johnson jumped over him though...) and I think most would probably agree he didn't have the best of years last year, but his career has earned him that respect.

About the McCoy/foster issue, Aaron schatz of football outsiders posted that McCoy led the league in rushes of minus -3 yards, and was more than twice the nearest player, who was Chris johnson. My favorite quality of Arians running is that even when he is met in the backfield or at the line of scrimmage by a defender, he always manages to fall forward and get 3 yards. He may not break off huge runs, but he is always consistent in a positive way moving closer to a first down and less 3rd and long situations. It is why I would choose him over any other back, including Peterson.

It's the Barry Sanders vs. Emmitt Smith Debate all over again. Sanders was exciting and had some insane runs but he was a home run or bust type of runner. He led the league in rushes of less than a yard. Emmitt Smith wasn't nearly as flashy but almost ALWAYS got you yardage.

Barry Sanders' style was not conducive to a winning style of football. You had to feed him the ball and then you had to live with the lack of production. Granted, he was running behind a line that was probably crap most of the time he was there and maybe that's why he had all those short runs. But the outcome is what it is.

Smith got consistent yards. Because of that, the Cowboys dominated TOP and dominated games.

I'll go with an Emmitt Smith type of back every time and Arian is that type of back.
