After reflection I really like this pick. Looks very quick on film with great change of direction and acceleration. Was getting open and settling down in space easily. Was 8/9 in passing situations for some trick plays. And his punt return skills are an added bonus.

Man, I just did a presentation yesterday for some 2nd graders. After filled out the quizzes that I gave them, I drew their papers out to call out the winners.

No, what he affirmed is that he will pick players that he thinks will help the team. It's not like posey is a big guy either.
Really it was 6'1" and some Change. Not really a full 6'2 but whatever.
I don't consider that "big". He is not a "big" wr. He has good size, but he's smaller that dre, Walter and jacoby.
Either way you slice it he's not a big guy unless you are a small guy.
I wasn't really thinking about Wright actually. I was just thinking about the notion that Kubiak only wants big receivers playing in his offense.
Wright really is not relevant as he was taken off the board before we were even on the clock.

I think that whole "big receiver" thing has gotten blown out of proportion. There was a rumor that he was interested in drafting Ted Ginn, Jr. back in the day and he's a short guy (5'11", 180). David Anderson found a place on this squad for several years and he's only 5'10".
He's definitely had a lot of big receivers on his teams and he likes guys that can block (which bigger guys have more to work with in that respect.) But Kubiak is pretty good at finding ways to use players to their strengths within his system.
The conversation began back during the pre-draft period, when many posters (such as Rey) felt that Kendall Wright would be a target of the Texans in the 1st round. It was pointed out that the Texans under Kubiak had never had a starting WR under 6 ft tall. The Broncos (with Kubiak as OC) had not had a starting WR under 6 ft since 1995 (Mike Pritchard).
The Texans have had WRs on the roster under 6 ft. Both David Anderson and Derrick Mason were sub 6 ft slot WRs. Now maybe Keshawn Martin displayed talent that forces Kubiak to re-evaluate his stance on WRs. Until then, I think the point that the Texans won't take a WR they see as a 3rd down slot receiver who can't help in the rushing game remains valid.

I never said anything about who the texans would target. What i said is that's who I'd target. I also said that I don't think the texans would rule out a guy they felt was talented simply due to height.
I could be wrong and my memory could be betraying me but I dont ever remember saying that the texans would target wright.
And we have no clue if they'd have taken him or not, but what we do know is that kubiak will take and play smallish receivers.

I have very high expectations for Keshawn Martin. 1200 yards, 13 TDs and a pro bowl appearance as a rookie. I've got a lot of faith in his abilities to stretch the field and make big plays.

Andre Johnson has been in the league for a decade and he has had over 10 TD's in a season exactly........zero times. Yeah, go drink more kewl-aide. That's the ticket.

Most of the time I read the posts on this site with a grin at the twinge of homerism. But come on, 1300 yards and 10+ TDs as a rookie WR on a team with Andre Johnson and Arian Foster? Really? You expect that? Really?

That would mean that something happened to Andre or Posey.... That's the only way KMart is going to get 1200 yards & 13 TDs.
Well, that or he plays flat-out better than Posey & Walter.

Last year, we got a total of 5 receiving TDs from Walter and AJ. Dreessen got 6. To have 1 guy get 13... that would be startling.
Randy Moss had 1300 yds, 17 tds and that is the best rookie season ever. Highly doubt we get half that with Keyshawn Martin. And I would be thrilled with half.

I like him as a playmaker, but now that I have a little more time to watch more closely, I'm a little concern.
This INT was due to Martin stopping short on a route:

It was during the Notre Dame game (confirmed by Mike Mayock).
Martin did the same thing on a slant in another game (either vs Ohio St. or Mich) that almost resulted in another INT.
Against Michigan and Ohio St., he dropped a couple of passes (one of them was a sure TD) and he fumbled the ball twice (fortunately, one landed out of bound).
In a lateral pass, he took his eye of the ball and drop another one.
That was supposed to be a fumble (the pass did not go forward), the ref ruled it an incompletion.
The thing is Keshawn needed to be aware that it WAS a fumble, and he should have gone after it.

With that many pass attempts going his way and the number of returns he fielded, it's acceptable.
I've seen Blackmon drop more passes and fumble once or twice as well.
So I guess it's all good?
