Borderline fair weather fans.....

Arian Foster had a hell of a game, meaning the OL had a hell of a game. Duane Brown should go to the pro bowl based on this game alone.

JJWatt went into beast mode today.

Had we not committed 2 of the 6 penalties on that last drive, we win this game & we're talking about the Texans heart & intensity.

I can't speak for anybody else, but I would be talking about how troubling it is to have just squeaked out a 16-12 win over a 1-13 team. Losing just makes it even more embarrassing than it already was.

We've had umpteen threads about fair weathered fans, hell, I even started one back in the day. But, I've learned. You love the team, you love it all. That means the good and the bad.

The ONLY thing that comes out of these threads is a pissing match over fandom. So, I'll play along.

I have a Texans room, two walls red, two walls blue, logo smack dab in the middle filled with various Texans swag. I have custom Texans pink plates on my car. I have Texans pin-stripping WITH THE LOGO on my car. I have a Texans tattoo (that I got during 2 & 16) and my dogs name is Toro.

All of the above is true ... well, except the dog thing. Does that make me a better fan than you? Hell no ... To be honest, I'm shocked this team still has fans at all ....

Imagine you won the lotto.

You get a bunch of new friends. They like everything you like. They laugh at all your jokes. They agree with all your decisions.

But when your money runs out... they laugh at you. They talk about your "stupid" decisions. They are hard to find when you need someone to talk to.

Then there is that one friend who was there before the lotto. & (s)he's there after you lose it all. This friend tries to understand what you're going through. Morns with you when you make a mistake, he doesn't tear you a new buthole for making a mistake.

Who's your real friend?

Constructive criticism is cool. But most of what we hear after a loss is not constructive. It's message board material for rival fans.

Did the Texans not lose to a 1 win Colts team (Manningless)

Are they the Texans arch rivals?

Thanks for the neg rep. LOL

Maybe I expect to much of a Gary coached team.

We miss you Wade.

Imagine you won the lotto.

Who's your real friend?

I appreciate the attempt at analogy, but if the Texans really want friends they should go out and buy a bunch of puppies.

What they're really trying to do, when you boil it all down, is sell a product.

The product this season is an improvement over the previous nine attempts, but it still ain't close to being Coca-Cola.

The bitching isn't like kicking a friend when he's down. It's like spitting out a swig of crappy, flat soda and saying: "This sucks! Try again!"

What a shitty thread. Real fans don't constantly spew "everything is wonderful" from their lips, morons do.

Imagine you've spent time rooting on a **** team with **** coaching and finally your cheap ass owner finally opens up his tight fisted wallet, the team finally spends the $$$ to get a competent DC.

Then they become snakebit, lose 2 QB's and still win 2 games anyway. The their DC has to miss 2 wks with galls stones and the Texans HC with an affinity for sheep cant lead his troops to a win against a 4 win Carolina team or a 1 win arch rival Colts team.

If this is the case then Wade needs to be Coach of the yr. I cant believe Gary is this bad and I'm a pink soaper.

Where your analogy fails is...what about the people who have been around WAY BEFORE you "hit it big"? Yep guess what (and I had a "big lottery winner" in my family)...those people end up proving that they're your most truest friends instead of newcomers looking to spend your last dime)

Sometimes it's true. Folks can't wait to jump off. Other times (majority), fans are simply voicing their displeasure. I know people that LITERALLY 2 weeks ago were saying "Yates is better than Schaub". Silly? Yeah. But it is what it is. I really ****ing hope we get that W on Jan. 7th.

Why? So I can hear "YOU" (not we) ain't gon' beat Baltimore! :toropalm: (No one here does that "YOU" ****, it's folks I know..)

Cant blame this on the refs, the crowd, or even bandwangon fans.

We lost to a horrible team because we are big headed.

So im bandwagon because i love to see my team do well? We sucked today.

To neg rep someone for expressing their opinion is bullshit. Complete total bullshit. I disagree with the OP very VERY much on this, but to use neg rep on this is horrible.

Neg rep trollers, yeah, neg rep someone who is personally insulting people, yeah. But for expressing their opinion? Jesus Christ this is a internet BBS, do you really think everyone here is on the same page?

So you're saying three free first downs via phantom penalties didn't give the Colts the game?
Did I mention that each penalty stopped the clock when the Colts had no more timeouts and there was less than a minute left when they got in the redzone??
Did I also mention we were leading for most of those 60 minutes until the refs stepped in.

But they didn't cost us the game?

thats EXACTLY what I am saying, we should have been up way more than that but blew our chances....that last drive should have not mattered.....when you let a crap team hang around they find a way to beat you....and thats exactly what happened, they beat us

I'll say it. I am embarrassed. We lost to a one win team. No Dallas Clark, no manning.

No way that should have happened, even with our injuries

We lost?? I was too drunk. I don't even even remember much past that first Yates fumble.

As an aside and on the positive side I managed to get some laundry done last night.

thats EXACTLY what I am saying, we should have been up way more than that but blew our chances....that last drive should have not mattered.....when you let a crap team hang around they find a way to beat you....and thats exactly what happened, they beat us

I find it very interesting when people say "we should have been up..." Based on what exactly?
Let's see what we were working with....
- No real deep threat?
- A 3rd string QB with throwing arm issues? yeah, check the injury report; Yates was "Probable" because of a shoulder issue with his right arm; so for those wondering why we didn't throw more or go deep at all, maybe that's why - he couldn't (how did this one get past you Doc? :D )
- and speaking of injuries, Daniels was operating on one leg
- One head of the famed two-headed running attack not functioning properly [looks at Tate]
- O-line who was missing a key piece (Briesel) and that had another key piece that was outmatched all night [looks at Winston] thus giving the sore-armed QB little pass protection. And it takes time for deep routes to develop ...especially with no real speed at TE or WR (unless you count JJ)
- the one guy, Schaub, that actually knows how to squeeze the most production out of this offense is gone.

The ONLY positive part of our offense that was remotely reliable last night was Foster. And to his credit, he did what was expected of him.

But the high-performing sports car that was our offense last year is missing several spark plugs.

"We should have been up" indeed... If one of the other major pieces of our offense was still there, I might agree with you. Say if A.J. was there to bail Yates out or if Schaub was there to make the reads the kid just flat doesn't have the experience to make or if Briesel was healthy and could provide the blocking that, apparently, Caldwell cannot.... yeah, I might just agree with that "we should have been up" thinking. Or at least give it more weight...

We led 59 out of 60 minutes then the zebras took over.

They cost us that game. You'll never convince me otherwise. So we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.
:texflag: Go Texans! :texflag:

I agree.

Some (if this doesn't describe you, then I'm not talking about you) of these guys were complaining this time last season because we won a "meaningless game"

Same guys bitched in our 9-7 year because we beat a team with nothing to play for.

Now we lose a "meaningless game" with nothing to lose & surprise, they're bitching.

Three years ago they are bitching the Kubiak is too loyal to veteran players & won't give young guys a chance... now they're bitching because Kubiak is too loyal to a young guy & won't give a veteran a chance.

:toropalm:

How was this a meaningless game ? We could of kept our hopes alive for #1 - #2 seed and the worse we would have if we would have won was a #3 seed. A bye week IMO is not meaningless, you can count that as a win if you dont have to play, FAR from meaningless.

Well I guess we agree

to disagree :D, because IMO a ref can not cost you a game....it seems like that with crap calls at the end, but when you're team is better all the way around even with the injuries (lets not forget that the Colts were also banged up pretty bad) and you lose like that, you cannot blame the refs....you just got beat by a team who wanted it more

I despise these threads. I really find the simpleton logic of black and white views of another person's fanatic devotion to the team to be indicative of a very immature, shallow brain.

What is the friggin' point of this goofy thread???!

So, if I'm not koolaide drunk and shooting rainbows out my ass I'm a "fairweather fan"?

Let's not argue about semantics. Don't be a fool. Fairweather fan is someone that only pays attention to the team when they are winning.

This does not describe the Texans Talk membership. This described the thousands of folks who don't have a clue about David Carr, don't know what 19-10 mean, never endured 2-14. These are the people that rushed to buy division championship shirts without bothering to watch the first 8 games.

This does not describe the Texans Talk membership.

So for someone to come into this forum, THIS FREAKIN' FORUM DEDICATED TO TEXANS DIEHARDS, after that craptastic performance last night, and a meltdown to a 1 win Dan freakin' Orlovsky team, and start blathering nonsense about disrespecting fellow Texans fans who do not ride unicorns to work on marshmallow clouds while singing Disney tunes, well...let's just say that respect is lost just as quickly as it is earned.

Pathetic. :loser

This thread wasn't started for it bieng the refs fault this was about the tone of the boards after a loss.

Criticism is fine but the tone is too much to take some times. Ashamed and embarrased are a little over the top in my opinion. Lossing to the Colts sucked and yeh they aren't very good this year with out Peyton, but they are still an NFL Team with talent.

So let me start over with this post and put it in language that those I seemed to have pissed of the most understand and seem to be OK with. I'm embarrased by the tone of some on this board. I'm ashamed at the attitude in this board.

Also to ever used the analogy that they are some times ashamed of thier kids. Really, thats F'd up. I'm sure my kids dissappointed me before like I did to my parents, but ashamed, wow just wow.

And one last time to deal with the ref deal, how can you simply say the penalties had little to no affect, and should have been overcome? The Colts couldn't move the ball in the first half with out them. We'd get a stop and the yellow flag kept the drive alive. Then by the second half the Defense was exhausted. The final drive happened because the Colts/Refs time of pocession was 10 minutes longer than Houston's.

Criticism is fine, comments are great, but bieng ashamed and embarrased is the same as turning your back to the team in my book. I'm not advocating that everyone act like there is nothing wrong and a 3 and out is super awesome, I just wish some would consider thier tone more carefully. Obviously we don't all agree on this issue.

Those that agree or disagree with me and backed me up on the rep thing thank you very much. I let my temper get the better of me and got snippy, luckily I didn't take it as far as I wanted to after a couple of beers. To those that neg repped me, I don't come on the board to build up my rep, I come on here to here opinions I agree and disagree with, to keep up with team news I can't get where I live, and to blow off some steam. So other than getting banned, I don't care if you neg rep me although it seems like you may have been directing your anger over the loss at me.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hollidays everyone.

This thread is absolutely retarded and fails on so many levels.

I can not stand threads like this or posters who play this card. For the last time and for those sitting in the back.

PEOPLE WHO'LL SPEND THE TIME TO REGISTER AND DO SOMETHING AS PATHETIC AS SPEND COUNTLESS HOURS OF THEIR TIME TO POST ABOUT SOMETHING AS INSIGNIFICANT AS A FOOTBALL TEAM ARE NOT "FAIR WEATHER FANS" NOR CAN THEY EVER BE CLASSIFIED AS SUCH NO MATTER THE AMOUNT OF NEGATIVE POSTS THAT THEY HAPPEN TO MAKE!

P.S.

You know what's worse than a "fair weather fan"? The Smug fan who's so delusional that he thinks he's the #1 fan or the king of all fans and thinks he gets to decide and judge the level of devotion and fandom of other people.

You seem to be making it more black and white than I am. I never said fans that had anything negative to say were fair weather.

Kubiak was way to conservative, good call I'm fine with it.
Teams struggles with out Wade, check.
Yates, was checking down, absolutely.
This was a 2010 like let down, good call.

However when some not all start acting like they should wear bags on thier head, well thats a little over the top.

Fair weather was not a good word to use, it doesn't describe some. And for the love of Pete I'm not calling the entire damn board out. 95% of the board is awesome and logical and fair. Don't be so damn defensive!!!!

No, it's exactly like kicking a friend when he's down. We've managed to win games despite our adversity, & we're all drinking the koolaid. We lose two in a row & now it's, "Damn, we suck again."

The same people that got us through that adversity are the same guys trying to make it work now. We supported them when they won the division, but now it's time to clean house.

We only want to be Texans fans when we're winning. That's somebody else's team when they lose.

Threads concerning fans do not belong in the Texans forum. Talking about Texans football belongs in the Texans forum. Some of that talk will be positive. Some not. That's the way things go. Biatching about that belongs somewhere else.

P.S., P.S. I'm not a smug fan that judges all fans. If you think that so be it, whatever. There a lot that have come up with thier own narative about this thread, if you don't like it don't reply.

And this wasn't about the entire board, you don't speak for the entire board. So your replies are silly.

:toropalm: Who are you to tell or judge how other people support their team? Again...anybody who'll actually post on the internet about a football team are not sub par fans, fair weather, or anything in that nature. In reality we're all 1%ters...we're actually ALL (not 95%, but 100%) your "super fan" or the fan that goes a little too far...and I don't know if that's really a good or healthy thing.

P.S., P.S. I'm not a smug fan that judges all fans. If you think that so be it, whatever. There a lot that have come up with their own narative about this thread, if you don't like it don't reply.

You started a thread called "Borderline fair weather fans" and then you act like you're not trying to call people fair weather fans or judge the level of devotion other people have for their team... Blow smoke up somebody else's rear.

There seems to be a misconception that venting about how the Texans played is the equivalent to bailing on them. It's hard to come here after a loss and discuss the silver lining in the game. It doesn't mean we have changed our loyalties or think less of the team. I still want them to do something in the playoffs and come back to Indy, but it won't be an easy road and without Schaub and Mario and maybe AJ it will be even harder.

It seems there is a lot of black or white and not enough grey around here after the games. A loss isn't the end of the world and a win doesn't guarantee your name on the Lombardi Trophy. Well, unless it happens to be a win on Feb 5th.

My point is that I saw many posters go buckwild on the team they've been raving about in prior weeks. Show a little support, don't just vilify them. Jmo.

But on the safe side, I think we should make some voodoo dolls and insist TJ change his number.

The way our luck has been running, voodoo dolls would probably result in another injury to one of our guys

I see one and done, hope not, but thats what i see in the cards. Too many injuries at critical positions to overcome. I honestly believe just winning the division was a monumental achievment under the circumstances.

You're the lucky one. It wasn't exactly a memorable game.

You're a complete fn moron....no one implied that last night. NO ONE. It was a painful loss and we were embarrassed of the way we played in front of MILLIONS....to say that I am less of a fan because I felt embarrassed is idiotic and childish. They're defensive because everyone on here at some point has had these feelings, expect maybe people like you who would love to hand gold stars to all our players and would like to hand out ribbons so the "kids" don't feel like they were losers....your part of the problem with society today, soft as f!!k and no heart....grow a pair

We only want to be Texans fans when we're winning. That's somebody else's team when they lose.

And really that's as it should be. It's a product. If it's fans they want then they need to perform consistently at a high level.

Would you really not ***** out the manager of your local grocery store if you kept kept buying your meat and produce there only to find out when you got home that the meat was rancid and the produce was rotten?

If that grocery store's manager wants happy customers, he'll make sure his product is of a high quality. And if it's not, he can reasonably expect to get a boot in the ass.

And, as Carr Bombed pointed out, your description really doesn't apply to anyone on this board because if we didn't care, we wouldn't be here venting our frustrations.

If we're talking about the local chain... yes, probably so. But if I chose to support the local mom & pops, I'm going to understand it was not their intent to put rancid meat & rotten produce in my bag (surely I didn't select rancid meat & rotten veggies did I??)

I'll go talk to the owner/manager, try to find out what went wrong & how we can make sure it doesn't happen again.

You can chose to root for whatever team you want. If part of your reasoning for rooting for the Texans is because you identify with the team, because it's part of your community, because you think they represent you & your community..... then we should look at this from a perspective or understanding, not acting like we know better, could do a better job & throwing blame around like idiots.

Let's imagine (I know it's imagining) this was your local highschool team. & that RT is a friend of your daughter's boyfriend. Do you tell your daughter how bad he sucks? Even though he had only given up 4 sacks on the year?

Imagine the coach goes to your church, do you cut him down at every opportunity? He wins 10 games, loses 5... when you see him, do you tell him to keep his head up? Or do you call him names like turtle dick?

Maybe you guys have a different way of supporting those you identify with.

Maybe this is just a product to you.

whatever.

I get it man. But to merge my thread with this one? I think folks should definitely speak their minds. That's what the boards are for. But IMO, if we want to take the next step, we need to remember how hard this team has it. And remember what they've overcome to win the division.

Also, the fat lady has yet to sing about the 2011-12 Texans...

I was too drunk. I don't even even remember much past that first Yates fumble.

LOL....ditto times 10 haha.

I was friggin plowed last night which I did not intend to happen. Whataburger saved my ass last night around midnight.....can't believe I actually got up on time at 5:30 and at work at 7....

Only 1 hour left to go....get home and chill and start my vacation.

The Texans are a professional football franchise that bears the name of the city of Houston. I support them because I'm from Houston. I also ***** about the coaching and personnel decisions out of frustration. To expect me to just bow my head and say it's okay every time I see them doing something stupid is unrealistic and, ultimately, counterproductive. If we all hold hands and sing happy songs rather than ***** and demand changes, they will suck forever.

Seriously?

The Texans are a professional football franchise. The players are paid millions of dollars to perform at a high level---the highest possible level. The head coach is paid millions to get his team to perform at a high level---the highest possible level.

There's no comparison here to a high school team comprised of amateur athletes.

Imagine the coach goes to your church, do you cut him down at every opportunity? He wins 10 games, loses 5... when you see him, do you tell him to keep his head up? Or do you call him names like turtle dick?

Of course not. I'd go home and call him turtle dick on a message board instead. :pirate:

Maybe this is just a product to you.

whatever.

It's more than just a product to me but---like it or not---it is a product. The NFL is a multi-billion dollar industry and the Texans franchise is one of its more valuable.

I will continue to support them the way fans normally do: by cheering them when they deserve to be cheered and blasting them when they deserve to be blasted.

Maybe you guys have a different way of supporting those you identify with.

Maybe this is just a product to you.

whatever.

If you continue to fail at your job and continue to make similar mistakes OVER AND OVER would your boss call you on it and demand different results? Would your boss or clients continue to accept garbage products? No, so why should we? Because we are emotionally tied to the product? I don't think giving people a free pass is acceptable.

Its like having a son. He continues to struggle and you've given him everything he needs to succeed. At some point you need to just yell at him and tell him you are disappointed that he has not learned from his past failures....People perceiver when the cards are on the table, lets see what our team does when the CITY gets mad and puts pressure on them to give them a championship, because since they have become an NFL team people like you and big lou continue to make excuses and give the benefit of the doubt to people who dont deserve it.....

We're 10-5, going into the play-offs. Are you saying we should fire Kubiak because he failed to beat the Colts after he had the division wrapped up?

All I'm saying, is that we had the lead with 1:56 seconds left. They had no time outs, the started on the 80 yard line & Dan Orlovsky was their QB.

& we're bitching about the offense because we lost that game.

Maybe you would have had Tj throw the ball more. Then we can gripe about JJ not catching the ball or KDub not getting open. Maybe we would have scored more points.... who knows. but:

Maybe you would have called a different game all together. Maybe everything would have happened the way you imagined it would have. but:

& we put the #1 defense on the field

Were you singing this to me? Cuz I get the feeling you were rapping or something......

I didn't say fire Gary, hold him accountable, AS FANS (clients). Our offense DID fail, because up until our last possession we were getting DESTROYED on TOP. You notice our defense has been worse since Yates started....you know why?!?! Because they are on the field way too much.

And its ALL of our coaches fault for having KJ one on one with Wayne for the winning TD.......again, not saying fire anyone here, but if you are McNair you better go downstairs and yell at Gary, just remind him wtf he is doing here.....

Gary better get the offense back on track or it is UNDENIABLE that we will lose the wild card game regardless of who we play.

Wow on the f-ing moron comment, just very high class. Anywaysome people did imply that, what the hell do you think ashamed means?????

I'm tired of trying to make my point and really tired of holding back from going off on you Mr. 12000, your insults and lack of logic have beaten my "soft, pair lacking, problem with the country, everyone deserves a trophy" self, because I so see how you got there from my posts. Man you've got me pegged, I'm actually a little freaked out at how well you know me, its crazy.......

Since when did posting on a message board indicate high class?

You're tired of "trying to make your point" because your points are ridiculous. In case you did not know

Ashamed: Embarrassed or feeling guilt because of something one has done or a characteristic one has.

No where does it say in the definition that ashamed means "wearing paper bags on your head".

:trophy: Here is an internet trophy, because, well, there are no "losers" in this thread, we're all winners

Agree with amazing.
This is a professional team. The players and coaching staff get paid handsomely for doing their jobs. This isn't a high school team.
My opinion, and I know it's not popular seeing the Texans are actually going to the play offs; the last two losses can be blamed almost 100% on Kubiaks ineptness as a coach. This team last night and last Sunday weren't prepared mentally for these games.
It's the coaches responsibility to get these highly trained athletes in the right frame of mind.
After the Bengal win they seem to be content in just making the play offs.
Unless Kubiak can get these folks in the right frame of mind I don't expect them to make it far in the play offs.
Blaming losses on injuries is the easy way out. Somehow this team with so many injuries and a third string QB won 3 games before.
Personally, making the play offs isn't all I look for out of this team. As a real fan I demand more.

I've suffered with this team for 10 years and have always stuck by them, even when they piss me off so bad I'm seeing Red, Battle Red.
I've often felt like a hurricane chaser, so either fair weather or foul weather. I am a total fan of this team and that's the bottom line!

I ignore bandwagon fans....because most of them don't like the team...they just go along with the crowd.....they have nothing intelligent to say about the team and dont even know the players or what positions they are on the team.

It is not worth getting to know them....because they will fall off and start talking negative and even some of them get on texantalk.com and start stupid idiotic threads just to try and make the true Texan fans mad.

Just leave them lukewarmies alone.....dont pay any attention to them.....
Its just not worth the conversation.......

You started a thread called "Borderline fair weather fans" and then you act like you're not trying to call people fair weather fans or judge the level of devotion other people have for their team... Blow smoke up somebody else's rear.

Yep

Judgemental smoke blower

Seriously... How did my thread get merged with this one? I never called out anyones fanhood...

Anyway, screw the last couple of games and even this next game. We have the playoffs ahead of us so let's just punish any team that's in our way to Indy.

I'm sorry. Was it the manager who put the bad produce and rancid meat in your grocery cart or was it you being too inattentive to notice what quality of food that you were selecting to feed your family?

Are you really the kind of person that refuses to take responsibility for selections/decisions they themselves make? You never struck me as that guy before. I won't believe that's you.

Try another analogy. That one doesn't really fit here.
