After a long and extensive conference call this afternoon, the Big East came up with a plan to to extend invitations to Air Force, Boise State and Navy in football only and Central Florida, Houston and SMU as full members according to Big East sources.

Mountain West and Conference USAThe Mountain West Conference and Conference USA have unanimously come to an agreement in principle to consolidate their member football programs into one large association.

Commissioners of the two leagues formulated this creative and innovative plan with the support of the presidents, chancellors and athletics directors. The 12 members of Conference USA and 10 football-playing members of the Mountain West will join forces for this strategic landmark in college football.

Not sure what to think of this, probably because I'm not too informed about the big east, but on paper it looks like they are trying to save themselves. I've never been a big fan of being in the CUSA, so if big east can re-emerge by keeping WVU, adding Boise St. then I'm all for it. Would have preferred the Big 12 before the drama, but baby steps to BCS contention I guess.

The logistics will be a nightmare, but the media exposure, I think, is worth it for UH.

Of more importance, I think it will be good for us to get acclimated with how the schools on the East coast operate.

The experience can be positive; it expands the UH environment and culture.
Exposure to the East coast is a good thing for our program, I think I can learn to adapt to it!

Go Coogs!

Surely they will come up with a new name for a conference that calls itself "Big East" but will soon have a group of members that span 3 time zones ?

I'm more interested in the CUSA/MWC merged name.

"Mount America Conference" HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Would the Big East still be a BCS conference even by adding Boise St, Houston, and SMU?

Louisville, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Rutgers, Connecticut and USF are the 6 schools still in the conference right now that play football.

WV is probably going to be in the Big XII and I thought Rutgers was leaving to go to a different conference (ACC?)

Kinda like the Big 12 with 9 teams + THE University of America (10 teams)........ and the Big 10 with 12 teams? :stirpot:
